The first season of the American superhero television series The Boys, the first series in the franchise based on the comic book series of the same name written by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, was developed for television by American writer and television producer Eric Kripke. The season was produced by Sony Pictures Television in association with Point Grey Pictures, Original Film, Kripke Enterprises, Kickstart Entertainment and KFL Nightsky Productions.
The first season of the series stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Kapon, Karen Fukuhara, Nathan Mitchell, and Elisabeth Shue. The story takes place in a universe where most of the superpowered individuals are recognized as superheroes, but in reality abuse their powers for personal gain, information the public is kept unaware of. The series follows the eponymous Boys (led by Billy Butcher), a group of vigilantes looking to bring down Vought International and expose its corrupt superheroes. When his girlfriend is accidentally killed by A-Train, Hughie Campbell joins the Boys to get revenge against the Seven. Meanwhile, Annie January is forced to face the truth about those she admires, after she joins the Seven, led by Homelander. The Boys attempt to stop Vought from receiving government support for superheroes by uncovering the company's secrets. When Hughie and Annie begin a romantic relationship, the conflict is muddled despite the two of them initially being unaware of each other's affiliations.

Singing gills is when I knew this show was a mixture of hilarity and gore.
Kimiko doesn't use sign language with Frenchie and the others because it's not official ASL, it's a made-up language that only she and her brother understand.
I‘ve seen him as Dr. Leonard McCoy, Éomer, Skurge and Vaako, but Billy Butcher is by far my favorite character portrayed by Karl Urban. Completely unhinged and utterly diabolical and I‘m here for it!

Regarding why the writing is so good, you are correct. Theater is an actor's medium, film is a director's medium, and TV is a writer's medium. In each instance, those roles have the most influence on the final product.
The show just keeps getting crazier. I can't wait for season 4.
Gotta say the commentary at the end had me chuckling knowing the future. Looking forward to rest of this season.

The chick that played Ashley is f****** underrated good actress
The scene where deep and his gills are singing, reminds me of the scene in Evolution. where they're fighting the alien creature in the mall. And Sean William Scott's character starts singing to lure it to them.
Chase Crawford doesn't look 100% unlike Sean William Scott either

I always wonder how many people know how much foreshadowing is in the name "Stormfront".
I knew about Stormfront already so I was surprised that they're in the show, then confused why they're live streaming, then thought she just had an unfortunate name. She even fooled me more when she referenced Pipi Longstockings. Then Stormfront did Stormfront things a few episodes later and I was like "Oh... Oooooohhhh....". x)
The writers definitely got me good there, even if a little different than most people. I'm surprised to see that almost no one seems to know about Stormfront though. It's kinda scary because she does the same thing that Neonazis nowadays do with social media propaganda.
Their comments at the end are what make watching reactions great for folks who have watched the series. Fun reliving the guessing game of what is going to happen knowing what you do now. These guys are going to shit at least three bricks...
I think Homelander does love his son in the only way he's capable of given his issues.

I feel like Homelander does love his son but out of a purely egotistical way. He wants to be loved so badly, which is understandable given that he was literally made in a lab and his desire to be loved is the only thing keeping his evil, power hungry cruelty at bay at first. Madeline did a good job at taking advantage of his need to be loved and he is so careful about staying loved in his public image at first! But as he realizes that he's not capable of love or being loved like other people (again, for good reasons cuz he's a villain), we start to see him become more unhinged and dangerous and he hyper fixates on his kid as a way to try and self-soothe that only other thing he wants as much as power, being loved. And even better that it's his own DNA so he can stroke his ego at the same time.
Yeah I agree, he cares about Ryan in whatever twisted way he is capable of - but he also sees Ryan as an extension of himself. But as we have seen, Homelander loving someone definitely does not prevent him from hurting them.
That's not love more like obsession. Love is always uncontiional.

I agree with what you said at the end...tv-shows are better than movies now! Movie level special effects...a lot more time to tell an in depth story, etc....

Watching KU in this show made me really wish they hadn't canceled Almost Human. Karl barely got a chance to be great in that one. I'm sure it would have been a really awesome show.

TV series focus is on character and story - Movie focus is on big budget spectacle.
Honestly I've never heard a better explanation. This makes perfect sense for 99% of movies.

I really started to like Stormfront in this episode. And then it went away pretty quickly.
I agree. As silly as the show can be at times, the underlying story is super compelling and serious. Huge budgets and VFX aside, it is safe to say that the writing of TV shows got a whole lot better over the past years too and I think this spirals into sort of a rising demand for even more greatly written TV shows. A good movie can still be a good story and experience, but they will never have the same amount of depth because you can only tell so much in 2 or 3 hours without things getting too condensed. There's also so much great acting, or even just amazing voice acting for animated shows now. People really put their heart and soul into those characters, bringing them to life. A lot of this not just applies to TV shows, but also video games too.
And Stormfront being clueless about Vought... Oh man she had you all fooled good.

Interesting that people ever liked her - I disliked her from the moment she pretty much shamed Annie for freezing when Deep as***lted her. I thought it was just bad writing when the episode aired, a poor attempt at a 'not like the other girls' girl. I felt so justified at the reveal!
@@Pee5Ma she came off as a rebel in the beginning and against all the fake propaganda. At least that's what made her likable to me. Until the apartment scene theres not really a reason to dislike her.
