Great video, Cody. Keeping my stones tuned up like this let's me continually improve the edges I apply. If I can be sure of what's NOT wrong with my process (like a dished stone) I can move on to what's left to improve it.

It also states in the original instruction videos, that you should use the whole stone length when sharpening and to flip the stones end for end each time they get used. This evens out the wear and should help keep the flat for longer.

How do I remove the old , wrong oils from a two sided sharpening stone? I have one that I found in a yard sale that is glazed but I can smell the olive oil and corn oil and other vegetable oils in the stone itself. I was a chef for more than 30 years and I know that smell anywhere. Can I just super heat it to get rid of the oils or is there a better way to do this?

Have the same problem with my lansky sharpening system. Can i use a 60grit sandpaper as an alternative?

Cody, is there any reason we should not use a diamond lapping plate, like the Shapton or DMT?

      Kenny,
I've heard mixed results on how well this works. If you have one I would give it a try as long as you are using the standard Edge Pro stones. However, if you are using the diamond matrix stones the loose abrasive is really the way to go.

Well, don't use a diamond plate ON a diamond stone! Other than that, I think that's what they're for!

In this video, you are using about 3X as much silicon carbide than Ben Dale does in his video. Why is that?

Cody, i make youtube vids as well. I think after you take a breath you should space yourself out just a tad more time before speaking so you can cut out more of those breaths without making it obvious. the video is of great quality, but the breaths happen alot.

Thanks! - I know this comment was from a long time ago but I just saw it. And yes - I'm very much an amateur at this video making stuff and appreciate the constructive criticism.
