    Thanks Cody / Ben
    Since buying my Pro back in 2010 I just got on and used it. Interesting to see you guys using it.
    I might reduce the amount of water I use on my stones. You seem to use them damp, virtually dry. I have tended to use a lot more, towels on work surface, the floor, and side of the kitchen unit to catch all the run off !
    I guess the other useful function of the painters masking tape is to stop the knife sliding.

    Very nice video. Do yourself a favor and purchase a high definition camera for future videos. The visual impact will be very noticeable.

    Very nice video I am using a Wicked Edge Generation 3 at the moment and just purchased an Edge Pro Professional sharpening system with the wicked edge gen 3 it is very easy to form a convex edge blending 3 to 4 beviles and blending them together with strops a video showing how to do this with the edge pro would be really helpful

      Mark Worledge, which sharpener do you prefer now? Does one work better for certain knives? A total flat grind like on kitchen knives look real easy on the Edge Pro. But what about pocket knives with a big hollow grind and a pointy clip point tip? Or a Spyderco Delica with a pretty extreme triangle shaped blade?

      707SonomaComa large kitchen knives and small I don’t think you can beat a set of good whetstones, large hunting knives whetstones but you got to know what you are doing with whetstones smaller knives like CR, Spider C ext the Pro Edge pro maybe the WE both are good but in my opinion the PE P is more adaptable

    Hi folks, great explanation. A question though, how do you compensate for varying thicknesses between stones? I can definitely imagine having to replace a stone and it’s going to be inherently thicker than say an older stone in one’s set. I used a drill stop collar on my original Edge Pro but don’t see mention of such compensation on the newest model. I definitely like the fact that improvements have been made to keep the stones level during their life.

    How would you find the angle you're making if u don't trust the marks?

    • @drivingmuffin
      @drivingmuffin Před 8 lety

      +GigaDonk A lot of people use an angle cube for finding angles

    • @g00fysmiley
      @g00fysmiley Před 8 lety +6

      +GigaDonk use a permanent marker on just the edge of the knife, then do a few swipes, steeply, then repeat adjusting the angle slightly until you have removed all of the ink that is your angle

    I was thinking about making my own wicked edge sharpening system so as to make a better quality system that has less “play” in the joints, but then I found this. Is the edge pro apex 4 just as good?

    • @TorlingJarl
      @TorlingJarl Před 6 lety +2

      well, first. Yes, the Edge Pro Apex is just as good, just more portable. Second, I have a Wicked Edge & play isn't much of a thing with the WE. Third, If you are going for an edge pro apex and looking for less variation, KME is a much better option in my opinion. I suggest looking into it. But to each his own.

      Jeremy, I really need to get those on the website because people ask for them all the time. Next time you need to order some stones just call your order in 541-387-2222 I can throw a few in for free. Just ask for Cody

      I made a stupid mistake, I bought blue shop paper towels in the exact same shade as the cloth that came with the system.
      Guess what got thrown out with a small bundle of shop towels?
      Yup.

      It's pricey, but it's a good all in one system. Works best with the small blade attachment for pocket knives with a 3" blade and a drill bit collar to mark your sharpening angle if your stones are of different thickness.

      casper franken Search for "ApostleP" on CZcams, he probably has a video that will answer your question.

    • @gunny4029
      @gunny4029 Před 7 lety

      no, basically any v edge knife. scandis and convex are best done by hand and chk out john c. reply on "ApostleP"

    • @nikkdawg03
      @nikkdawg03 Před 7 lety

      I am able to do convex. convex just takes constant movement of the blade. you can message me if you want more details

    • @npaisnel
      @npaisnel Před 3 lety

      Seeing the attachments that are used on other systems like the Hapstone or TSPROF, then making your own Convex adapter would not be an issue if you have a bit of metal working skill... or design and a 3-d printer
      Go look at the convex adapters... they are just a block with two holes to hold the guide bar at an angle to the pivot slide point.
      Accurate drilling of the two holes to get desired angle is the only ‘tricky’ bit

    i am much mre satisfied of the edge pro system than any clamp system. i dont believe clamp systems keep a straight engle from heal to tip. . edge pro is the master dont get any copy. like gritomatic

      jelly 292 does it sharpen survival and bushcraft knives? any grind? Scandi flat sabre?

    • @gunny4029
      @gunny4029 Před 7 lety

      stick with had sharpening for bushcraft and scandi. edge pro shines in keeping the v edge on a blade. good for knives you don,t want to get scratched. like high quality folders kitchen knives. make sure you go by this tutorial.b/c you have to remember to use very light pressure toward the higher grits. you just want to remove the burr and let the stone do the poloshing without pressure
