Nick analyzed the WR trend perfectly. We have 25 "Tier 1" Wide Receivers. That's gonna cause problems and then we'll have a big wr contract bust where nobodys getting paid

Baker Mayfield said he wants to stay with Mike Evans. I'm guessing he is definitely staying in Tampa.
Yeah things are setting up for the Bucs to run it back and see if last year was a fluke, or something to build on. Can’t blame them for wanting to be sure before being too hasty in moving on
The difference between receivers and running backs though is you can have 3 WRs on the field at the same time. You can’t do that with RBs. There is room for depth and paying top flight receivers and there is a clear drop off from the top WRs and the average WR. Right now with RBs the best of the best can actually be replicated by grabbing 2 league average RBs for half the money. The drop off is not as drastic as it is with WRs.
That’s a great point but even if you have 3 top tier receivers on the field…who are you prioritizing targeting? And are they all being paid as a WR1 if that’s not how they’re being utilized (despite their skill set indicating that they should be paid as a WR1)? I think that’s what Nick is getting at. Teams are gonna start low balling great WRs simply bc there’s so many of them and bc they can’t all be utilized as WR1s. Simple supply snd demand.
If ur baker you do not want to leave Tampa. This is the first time since I guess his first 2 years that the players love him, the coaches love him, and the fans love him. This is a perfect situation, and with an improved offensive line, they could be dark horse threats to make the SB

I wasn’t sure what was missing from my life last week… it was First Things First all along
Mike was Jason's first draft pick. It was personal. They needed to re-sign him.
What Nick fails to explain is Mike Evans is a 1,000 yard receiver for 10 straight season and he gets as many TD’s as any WR in the league which makes him way better than a ton of people. This is why he’s underrated and has been his whole career! Great contract and well deserved!
Nick is dead on about the WR talent. There's amazing play across the league at that position and tons of good young players coming in each year. Wildes needs another Mac Jones intervention, the dude is terrible.

Usually I agree with Nick Wright and he makes a ton of sense to me, but I am so confused by his idea for NE. After talking about how saturated the WR market is and how teams may choose to draft WR over spending big on WRs coming out of their rookie deals, why would drafting a top WR make sense now? By the time they would be in a position to compete towards the top again they would hit the same dilemma with MHJ and theoretically would choose to draft a WR again.
In Nick's scenario, the WR market isnt going to collapse until the new WRs start getting their contracts in 2-3 years. So presumably by the time they extend MHJ the market will be down. They will get 4 seasons with him before needing to extend or take the 5th year option.
@@the_drillkagethis,plus they arent drafting a qb yet in this scenario. So either they will have a qb still on his rookie deal when they have to pay MHJ. Or they will get a qb in free agency and MHJ will still be on his rookie deal

The only thing that got me through a week of no FTF is Supermega returned last week.
25 million is team friendly and trade friendly won’t be surprised if the season doesn’t go well they can still trade him with that contract.
I don’t think I could name more than 10 receivers in the NFL I would want right now more than Evans tbh. Jamar Chase, Nico Collins, Tyreek Hill, DJ Moore, Amon-Ra, Justin Jefferson, Deebo Samuel, Puka Nacua, AJ Brown, CeeDee Lamb, and that’s honestly it. You can make the case that there are some receivers who carry about the same value as Evans does, like Devonta Smith, Keenan Allen, Adams, or Tee Higgins, but there’s honestly only a handful of players who are clearly better or more consistent than Mike. When you look at it from this perspective, giving a contract like this to Evans makes sense. Not to mention, it’s only two years so it’s not super financially risky either
The biggest problem with the Bucs is their head coach. I love Bowles as a D coordinator, but his HC stats are just plain bad.
I foresaw this 2 drafts ago. WR is such a popular position with the most elite athletes. When you’ve got so many of them… which ones truly standout? Which ones are truly worth the money?
I would think that true vet WR 1's will get paid, but the $13M WR 2 may become a thing of the past. Imagine if your team needs a WR 2 or 3 and Xavier Legette or Brenden Rice is still on the board in round 3...lot of options out there.

Mike isn't "very good" he's put up unprecedented numbers. THIS is how a good organization takes care of it franchise players! 30 isn't old for the style Mike plays. He's still 6'5" and a great route runner

It’s March 4 and I’m ready for the NFL season.
Think Brou was dead on with the quarterback analysis. It's not as if the QB odds somehow improve if you pick them lower and plenty of great QB, including Patrick Mahomes, have been picks outside the top 5. Drafting a receiver at 3 if your team doesn't have a quarterback and you have even some faith in the quarterback available could be franchise material is just atrocious process. That being said if they sign Baker, trading down seems like the best option to me, depending on what you can get. You can still get a very good wide receiver or offensive tackle and pick up another first in the process.
If anything the Bucs are doing the right thing by Mike Evans. Helped bring them superbowls and relevancy
Draft Harrison, then take a QB with our 2nd rounder. That's our best bet to get a respectable offense. Drafting Daniels when 0 weapons is Bryce Young all over again. The pick at 3 is Harrison.
So.. imma do a hot take and say, Baker stays in TB and the team takes a step backwards this year and drama and antics ensue

Let's go through the list of all the bad QB's that got alot of money. Every other positions gets devalued. Ya'll would think by now the pay of QB goes down until proven, but no the other positions gets punished first like RB and WR. Pay the value of a player. Tampa ain't winning without Mike Evans... but he better tighten up... had some major drops... but he's been the main Target for The Buccaneers in pressure moments
