    I'm sure we all know orange juice is not that orange on its actual colour. It looks more like an orange drink.
    This can kind be a concern because cooking times can vary. Something with more sugar will reduce more quickly. Actual orange juice would have more water meaning that the reduced products would be less. This would mess up the ratios.

      I thought the same thing.. But what if you put an orange in a juicer.. Not a citrus juicer, but the kind that makes juice out of everything? With the skin and everything? Would this produce a different color?

    • @lemonheadz7452
      @lemonheadz7452 Před 4 lety +12

      Jacob Brumwel I’m pretty sure it would be a different color, but having the skin on would make it really bitter, which could explain why they needed the extra sugar in the mix

    So, is it just basically an orange-flavored Turkish Delight? Corn starch is used in making them, not gelatine nor agar

      That's actually what I think they're supposed to be. All the recipes i find use gelatin, some use pectin, but the bag of Orange Slice Candies just has sugar and cornstarch. Never had a Turkish delight so I'm gonna be trying them soon and see how ican change it to be like the candies, if its not already.

    • @MSKAYO56
      @MSKAYO56 Před 4 lety +4

      @@SedTheMage I think the bag of orange slice candies has a different texture, if it's what I'm thinking of. There are fruit slice candies that are sold by the pound, not in a bag ,and they're much more expensive than the bags of fruit slices.

      They used food coloring because real orange juice that comes straight out of orange isn't that dark in color as shown in the video. It's a lot lighter and yellowish.

    First of all, you’re going to need Valencia oranges. Blood oranges work but Using Naval oranges won’t they are too bitter and not enough flavor. Second, Honestly these look a lot like agar agar jellies. You’d have to add a crap ton of cornstarch to get it to do that. Even then, when you’re using a lot such as in a pastry cream recipe it doesn’t set up like that. I’m doubtful this actually works. Third, that color is vibrant not sure you could get it like that and that clear without food coloring.

I have seen several shades of juice color as it depends on variety, season and freshness of the product. Orange juice drink will definitely throw the recipe and once again depending on what one uses taste will differ. Will definitely try this.
