It is a tank. Revolvers do not have parts under preassure so they can lay in a drawer for ten years and still work. Ive had mine for 8 years. Still like new. No I have not fired 1000's of rounds trhought it. If you cant hit a target at ten yards without putting that many rounds down range you should sell it. I did put a Hogue pistol grip on it which I like better than the factory version.
Excellent firearm. I have the 3” model and carry it frequently. Altamont makes some nice wooden inserts to replace the original plastic grip inserts, gives it a very classy look. Meprolight makes a tritium front blade sight that definitely helps get you on target. Those were the mods I did with mine. Why would someone carry .38 Special +P in a .357 Magnum revolver, you ask. Some people do that because they really only want to carry a .38, but they want it to be able to handle the hottest .38 Special loads available. If it’s just chambered in .38 Special then they don’t trust that it will hold up over the long term with a steady diet of +Ps, but a .357 would, no worries. Now I don’t think that way - and the SP101 does come in a .38 Special only configuration (that was the original version) which is perfect for such people - but that is the logic. As for me, when going out and about I carry .357s, but I also switch to .38 Special if it’s in the nightstand for home defense. I don’t want to blow out my eardrums with a .357 inside my house, and I don’t want to risk putting a bullet in my neighbor’s bedroom with the same. Inside the house out of a 3” barrel, a good .38 Special +P should suffice, and I get to keep my hearing and not endanger my next door neighbor.
@@TerryBenton hammer on older 101 s were a solid side when cocked back , this one ir hollowed out on the sides like the hammer on the early heritage single actions
