Great fix Tommy!! I just applied the tape, tested it out and works GREAT!! Zero squeaks when I go over ramps. Couldn’t be better, very happy. For all who are considering this as well: the tape is rather expensive, €24 for a roll incl shipping. But more than worth it as the squeaks were driving me crazy on my less than 2yr old f31.
Just bought a used 2018 340i with only 3800 miles. The first day I owned it, taking the wife out for her first drive, we both heard the dreaded squeaking in the back seat backing out of the driveway. We both said what the &%#$. I just brushed it off telling her it's just a simple fix, I'll have the dealer look at it. The whole time I'm breaking out in a sweat, just really pissed off thinking I was taken on this deal. I lived with it for the last two days not really enjoying my very first BMW, thinking did I get a lemon, no BMW is suppose to make that kind of noise being this new. THANK GOD I found this, I feel like I can now truly enjoy this amazing ride!!! Thanks for the video, amazing fix. It works!
I have the exact same car and the horrendous creaking started only after I cleaned and lubricated the seals. My BMW dealer told me that grease makes it worse and so I've used IPA to clean it all off. Hopefully this works. If not, I'll be trying this tape. Ridiculous for such an expensive car.
Hey Tommy I'm really gonna give this to you man. You pinpointed exactly where he needed to be taped. No more annoying sound. This was driving me insane! I had installed this tape before but I had it installed a little further inside on the door. Finally the car is how it was supposed to be from factory
Can't thank you enough for this video. I drive a 2020 plate X5 M Sport and the creaking noises were driving me crazy for several weeks. I had previously tried the Gummi Pflege / WD40 suggestions before I had watched your own fix. The lubricants helped a little initially, but I still wasn't sure exactly where the noises were originating from and therefore applied the lubrication on every section of rubber on the doors and door jams, which really wasn't necessary (and a little messy). I applied the tape this morning and silence is golden! The sense of relief I felt when pulling out of the driveway with no creaking sounds was joyous. Such a simple but ingenious solution. Thanks again.
I have the same issue with my M140i here in Europe despite many 3 claims to BMW and a replaced rubber gaskets issue is still there... Time to give this a try ;) Thanks for the Video
Did you try this and did you tape the same area where the body of the car meets the felt on top of the door/window area? Or did you tape the door where it meets the rubber seal all round?
Thank you so much for your video. My BMW got this problem for years. Now I have found the best solution here. Its reduced 90% uncomfortable noise. I bet BMW dealer doesn't even thought this solution.
I finally received my M3 Tommy. It is beautiful. The dealership made it very hard to get through purchasing online, and did not send temporary plates or follow through with many things.... But things are falling into place now I can see why you love your car I look forward to starting fresh!
my dealer just fixed this issue on my '18 F80. It was driving me crazy! They did exactly what you have outlined in this video. They explained that this happens because some of the car wash solutions leave a waxy coating over the rubber trim which in turn causes these noises to happen over time.
Very helpful Tommy! Car has been creaking almost the entire time I've owned it. Gotten accustomed to it almost, but I will definitely give those ideas a try.
Another great video for the BMW DIYer crowd. Thanks. But, note this problem is hard to solve. Fortunately tape has solved the issue for now but unfortunately it will return. First, BMW calls these outer door gaskets 'Window Guides'. The squeaking of the guides is common on all BMW sedans. The guides are made from combining two types of artificial rubber. 1) EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer), the most common material used by car manufacturers for this purpose, and 2) TPE (thermoplastic elasomer), a type of artificial rubber used in . . . look it up and you'll be surprised. Using TPE helps prevent the guides/seals from cracking over time (a common problem on many cars). The wonderful thing about EPDM is it can be lubed/cleaned with a wide range of chemicals, even those that contain silicone. TPE, on the other hand, does not/not tolerate silicone well. Silicone can cause TPE to break down. Number 1 tip, avoid anything with silicone in it when cleaning the exterior of the car, including soap, wax, sealants, etc. Unfortunately, if the guides do get exposed to silicone, they will begin to break down and will squeak and creak. You can lube the guides with a chemical called Krytox which is both EPDM and TPE friendly. But even that won't work forever. The ultimate solution? Replacement. To replace the guides, you'll will also need a mysterious chemical BMW will sell you called G14, the only lubricant BMW approves for Window Guides. I've looked but can't find the actual chemical that G14 is made of but BMW tells you that's the chemical to use on the back of the guides during install. If you plan to replace the guides, research the issue in detail. The front doors are relatively easy but the rears required careful planning. Let's just say, getting the guides out is a lot easier than getting them in again. Keep up the great work!
F I N A L L Y !!!! Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm gonna go ahead and buy those tapes and finger-crossed it'll solve my problem . The noises are just too much to handle especially when you just wanna drive home listening to good music after a hard day's work.
Spent hrs removing door card on my 2018 G30 saloon to find Gummi Fledge around the outer rubber has now cured what i deemed to be a rattle. Thank u so much for this little gem and the tape has been ordered for the long term fix.
Funny, I recall growing up my mom always using the word “foreigner” when others questioned her accent. Being born here myself, it took me to become an adult to fully realize she used it as words of pride. True story!

Have you had to remove/reapply it? If your car is ever parked in the rain or hot sun, that would tend to loosen the tape’s adhesive properties, no?

Tommy L Garage On average I’ve had to apply it about once every 8 months. It conditions all the door seals as well. I wouldn’t apply cheap tape to my BMW! But each to their own..

Thanks Tommy. This sounds like a better solution to BMW's gummi pflege. The pflege works but does need constant attention. Do you have any info on long term performance of this tape, especially in the very warm climates? I am asking because the door seal material is porous, allowing it to "breathe."
Hey Tommy my 2016 Sakhir Orange M3 arrives on Wednesday. Besides crazy excitement I am starting to plan. It is a base model so I am looking into buying a tune with the competition burbles and possibly a AA midpipe. The headlights are the led without projector bulbs, not sure how I feel about those yet. I will also be replacing all chrome trim and emblems with all black. Thank you for the guides and recommendations! I would love to come down to see the small details on your car in person once I get my car up to par. Do you have any recommendations on Buying a of the shelf tune for mine? I want the competition burbles but don't really want the gts overrun too loud. Thank you
Congrats! Happy to meet up when you get the car even before you start modding it. I could give you some tips. Regarding mods: AA midpipe is the way to go. LED headlights are better than projectors but you can have the bezels painted black and it will look amazing.
Hi Tommy. First of all, GREAT VIDEO! It's the only video addressing this issue on the internet. I'm having the same problem on my E90. Do you think vinyl wrapping the sills will help? I'm thinking of doing that since mine are a bit faded from the sun. THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN for solving this mystery for me :))))
Tommy can you give us an update on this? I’m curious how the tape holds up over time. Does it get weathered start to peel? Did you have to give it a fresh round of tape? Thanks
Hey man, I have a question, my GLE has a similar issue, but as long as I roll the window down a little, the problem is gone. Can I still try on this tape? BIG THANK YOU
Hi Tommy thanks for the video, is it okay to use 12.7 mm UHMW polyethylene? I have the same noise in my F30. Btw, I feel like there is a noise inside the car, too. You know, there are lots of plastic parts in F30. Do you have a solution for them?
Tommy - Thanks for the tip! I have an annoying creaking from the plastic trim that surrounds the steering wheel (just between the steering wheel and gauges). Have you had this issue?
Hey Tommy, I’m getting crazy with this noises! Hope this will work, I spent lot of time cleaning up all doors panels and window garnishes.. I’ll let you know, thank you for now!
My friend I have a BMW 116D F20 from the year 2019 with 43,000 km. He started making a popping noise in the driver's B-pillar, right over the seat belt, near the roof. Can you tell me how I can fix this? This noise sounds like something metallic and I find it so strange that a car with a few kms, and traveling on good roads, has this problem! If anyone knows how to fix it I would be very grateful. Thanks
Hey tommy, just a got a 2021 m340 recently. I started noticing a small rattle/creak from the sunroof. Tried a lot of lubing but with no luck. Have you experienced this issue and happen to know the fix? I am bringing it in to the dealer for the second time and maybe replace the sunroof glass since it is under warranty. A lot of the g20 owners also have this issue and they fixed it by replacing the glass. Thanks in advance
Hi Tommy, thanks for this helpful information. By now, are you still driving without hearing any squeaking noise from the doors ? Just wondering how long and well does the tape last. Cheers ;)
Hey Tommy, cool video, congrats for 10k subs. Had a question, do you know how I can fix a weird noise coming from the exhaust? It's like a short and loud whistle at around 2500 rpm. Went to Bmw and they said it must be something at the exhaust.
Thank you very much! Is your exhaust completely stock or is it aftermarket? I suspect there must be a leak somewhere either at a clamp or maybe even by the downpipe. I’ve also heard that tips can make a whistling noise depending on the design.
Tommy do you have a video on rattles coming from your dashboard? My dashboard has a rattle/scratch noise when driving at certain speeds. The noise stops when I’m applying pressure down or pushing up on the cluster
Tommy, help me please. I have an M140i and I have this problem. I looked for the tape you used and couldn't find any more. Could you send me a link or the brand/model of the tape? Thank you very much

I did this 3 years ago, also on my F20(Lci) and it worked like a charm.

Ha ha ha that is one way to look at it

It’s a night and day difference. I have no creaking anymore
Applying silicone spray to the rubber seals also works. Do NOT use WD40 as it destroys rubber and makes it baggy👍👍
Good call !

Is the 303 stuff you showed similar to Gummi Pflege? I find that it’s nice to put that on the door seals of lots of cars. They tend to dry out fast.
Gimmi Pflege is more slippery. 303 is used more to dress up the rubbers but also works to stop squeaks....but won’t last very long

Hi Tommy thanks for the video, is it okay to use 12.7 mm UHMW polyethylene? I have the same noise in my F30. Btw, I feel like there is a noise inside the car, too. You know, there are lots of plastic parts in F30. Do you have a solution for them?
Yes it will work!
Yes! You saved me... thanks
Anytime !
Tommy - Thanks for the tip! I have an annoying creaking from the plastic trim that surrounds the steering wheel (just between the steering wheel and gauges). Have you had this issue?
Hmm..can't say I do. But when i do I will circle back with you.
Hey Tommy, I’m getting crazy with this noises! Hope this will work, I spent lot of time cleaning up all doors panels and window garnishes.. I’ll let you know, thank you for now!
It’s been a year for me. Zero issues. This fixed my problem for good
Hey tommy,Please help me.. My bmw 1 series 2016 makes a noise like teeth grinding on the driver's door, will this tape eliminate this noise? thanks
Great Tips!!!!!
You got it!
I wash my car once a week and the last step in my process is to wipe down the runner door seals. That keeps the creaks away.
I mean I do that too and for some reason it didn’t work
Great, old school diy solution. Wouldn't it collect dust though?
Thanks! Almost two years in and zero issues. No dust
Thanks
Seem it's common issue on bmw/mini car , my mini copper 2022 has this issues also
Luckily the tape fixes it
Polak potrafi :). Tomek potrafi:)
Haha no wlasnie!
I heard when the upper gasket gets dry it squeaks. Have you tried lubing it?
The dealership fixed that issue for me
I wanted to skip the dealer visit
Fantastic video man! Just to confirm - did you get the 1 inch wide? Or 1/2 is enough? Thanks!
1/2 is enough. Thanks !!
@@TommyLGarage ah thanks! I got the 1/2 one but I can see in video youre clearly using the 1inch one :). So no need to get the 1inch one you think?
Hi Tommy, thanks for this helpful information. By now, are you still driving without hearing any squeaking noise from the doors ? Just wondering how long and well does the tape last. Cheers ;)
Yes sir! Over a year now and zero issues
Thanks for the info. I will try it. The tape shown in the link is blue in color. Is that the correct one? Can't seems to find the transparent type.
The tape is clear. I think blue is the backing. If you slide right you can see it’s actually beige. No matter what color you won’t see it.
I fucking love you man thank you for this. I was about to drive my car into a wall.
Glad I could help!!
LOL I’m a foreigner. Excellent video.
Speaking the truth :)
Finally and answer🙏
Glad!!
Hi, what size is good to use? Thanks 😊
*me nodding when Tommy asks if I hear it 👂
cozycody hahahaha
Try removing the climate control and radio. Then line it with felt. Noise will go away
@@TommyLGarage it’s not around the climate control area, it’s more on where the Speedometer area is
Hi, I see there are a few options for size and length of the tape. Which is the correct one to purchase? Thanks in advance
From my experience anything between 0.75 and 1.5 inch will work.
Length - you will need at least 20 feet.
Tommy, help me please. I have an M140i and I have this problem. I looked for the tape you used and couldn't find any more.
Could you send me a link or the brand/model of the tape?
Thank you very much
The 1 inch tape in the link is what I used. Just use the clear option and not blue. It's all in that link.
The quickest and cheapest fix is actually using a Silicone Lubricant Spray. Works on all rubber/plastic based gaskets
But it’s not permanent
Thankkkk youuuuuuu!!!!!!
You got it!
Seriously man!!! The noise was driving me nuts!! I already order the tape!! Lol
I have a f36 similar sounds. wonder if this is what i need to do also.
This is the fix
