    Wow, thanks Chooch! I kinda figured that the bags would do some minor scuffing of a tail section, but to wear through 3 layers if 3m tape down to the fairing itself is absolutely unacceptable. And would drive me banana's..was thinking about a set for my Tuono, but I think I'll look into an alternative solution. Thanks again for the great review!

    Thanks for the review. I can't tell by the video if the surfaces where the bags make contact with bodywork are padded or non-mar. I think the issue is the bags' weight are supported on the "points" of your fenders. An possible option is to use a neoprene cover that runs (drapes) from one fender, over the seat, and covers the other fender. There's probably other solutions as well. I guess it's the result of trying to add utility to a motorcycle built more for a different type fun :-)

    I have the givi easylock system which does not touch the paint or plastics on a shiver 900 but the bars are permanent and a pain to completely dismantle. On the plus side the givi is a little more sturdy and is independant of a cross strap on the seat so it is ok for passenger provided the bags are not in the way. For track days number panels could be zip locked onto the givi frames as long as it meets track regulations.

    You can get the rubber sheet paint protector that go between the bags and the bodywork and it don't stick to the bodywork.

    Thanks for the info. Hugely tempted. Can't see any other system like this so discrete and with such easy release/attach (and I've looked). Closest I can see is (also by) SW Motechs SLC-/LC1/2 system. It's more in keeping with the look of my Street Twin BUT almost 50% again more pricey and the racks less discrete (though compact, lightweight click-ons and as a bonus might offer some protection in event of a bike-drop) . If they combined this fitting system with the LC1/2 bags I would snap it up but probably going to get this all be it more in keeping with your (very nice) Street Triple R...(I'm buying panniers as will be couriering equipment for medical staff during the pandemic - strange times...)

    Nice review. Since you say you have the bags on most of the time maybe something even more rugged than 3M like the tank grip pads you have would protect the tail section paint? That stuff comes in clear as well as black.

    • @MotoChooch
      @MotoChooch  Před 7 lety

      TwistedThrottle.com That's actually an excellent idea! Didn't think of that thank you! If they can mold around the edge that might be perfect. I'll look into it.

    This might be overkill but would solve the scuffing problem. Buy some kydex, comes is flat sheets. Warm it up till it’s flexible and place in the rubbing area till it molds to the shape. Then, attach the Kevlar with double sided tape or Velcro. That’s how I’d fix it anyway. For that price they should include something like that in the kit.

    Good Review. I would put the 3m tape layer and some adhesive felt furniture feet pads because they are thick, cheap and would be more resistant to the vibration and abrasion provided the glue adhered to the tape. The felt come in little squares and circles and in a sheet for so you could make your own custom shape... also have seen it in brown or white felt to match dark or light paint.

    Would these work with a tail tidy? Looking at your turn signals there could be issues with them against the bags

    When the suitcase is mounted on the bike, can you take a passenger in the back? Do you have room for your legs?

  • @jonathancasey4320
    @jonathancasey4320 Před 7 lety +1

    Do you think the connecting straps for the bags could go under the seat? I'm assuming it's not too comfortable if passenger had to sit on top of them.

    • @MotoChooch
      @MotoChooch  Před 7 lety

      I don't think so the way the seat latches down. Honestly there doesn't look like there'd be much room for a passenger with the bags on unless they were kinda tiny.

    good review. the wear on the paint is a deal breaker for me. the majority of my riding is aggressive canyon riding that lasts no more than one day. I've been looking for saddle bags for taking occasional weekend road trips but don't want to deal with it scuffing any of my paint because i will be removing them for most of my daily riding. i suppose i could still do the tape idea but im just not sure as of yet

    • @MotoChooch
      @MotoChooch  Před 7 lety +2

      William Anderson the 3m is holding up better for sure, but you also have to loosen them enough so that the rougher part of the back part of the bag sits lower than the edge. I had them too tight. Still getting some wear though. It's been recommended by twistedthrottle.com to use clear tank grips. Might try those next.

    • @williamanderson9714
      @williamanderson9714 Před 7 lety

      MotoChooch on my gsxr 1000 I can't imagine using clear tank grip because it's thick and won't conform to the shape of my tail... Idk. I'll probably pick up the bags anyway and give them a shot. I do have a nice tail bag that works for me now for a full day of all day riding or even an overnight trip.

    MotoCooch, I recently tried installing these and can't get the clamps secured on the passenger footrest frames. Even at way more torque than the instructions specify the assembly easily slides up and down the foot rest frames, is this normal?

    • @MotoChooch
