- With Cartoon Network Studios and Warner Bros. Animation merging, along with Craig of the Creek's cancellation (and many other shows), it's easy to worry about the future of Cartoon Network. During a new talk with Variety, CN president Michael Ouweleen reveals what's going on.
Warner Bros. Discovery has unleashed chaos in the world of animation, cancelling shows left and right and changing Cartoon Network Studios as we know it. While things will be different moving forward, Michael Ouweleen hopes to bring the channel back to its roots. With Adventure Time being the major emphasis for the types of shows moving forward, we can finally have hope for what comes next on Cartoon Network!

Cable, still, is a mess in the U.S, but in Lebanon, Cablevision LB only lets you pay $17, unlike Dish, Sling, XFinity (Cable + Internet/TV ), AT&T's DIRECT TV, etc.
It's a rare sight to see an actual president of a company not having a corporate mind but instead an understanding of what we the people want. This guy's got my respect for sure. (Please ignore the ass hat in the reply section, he's looking for clout.)

The problem with Cartoonito is that no one liked it in the first place, not even preschoolers. Since the block began airing, there have been only three original programs. The reason why Disney Jr. and Nick Jr. work so well is that they make new shows for them, with new lessons and morals to teach children. Cartoonito cannot run off of acquired programs like Thomas and Friends and Cocomelon. It needs more original programming.

I cannot stress this enough… animation _needs_ to be appreciated. We see them on CZcams, TV- even in places where we didn’t know we needed it.
They teach lessons, entertain, and even present us with grand stories that work for the eyes & ears of people who either do or don’t need it.
Heck- the animators that bring this to life define the product of animation most of all. They bring life to the worlds they create & bring general appeal to audiences everywhere.
Why in the world is such a revolutionary and game changing art-form getting disrespected like this? 😭

I think it’s important to have that balance between what audiences (kids or adults) want in terms of animation. With this move hopefully CN will get back to their roots and have a balance of adult cartoons while also appealing to kids and younger audiences.
And we need to annihilate the Cocomelon Crisis too. The Unlimited Toon Works to stop more Cocomelon and Toddlers and Tiaras, has officially begun.

Craig Of The Creek was very special to a lot of people. And the creators said themselves that it was like a sandbox full of stories and ideas to dig up.
If I had my way, I'd give Craig Of The Creek a run of 8 full seasons. All culminating in an hour long series finale. If they want.

Kids shows, adult shows, vintage Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbera, anime, the online flash games... nothing these days has come even close.

Wow I was honestly expecting to hear some bad news about CN's future judging from the title of the video but was given a positive surprise instead. Even though I'm 25 now I still hold that network as well as cartoons in general close to my heart. It's nice to see that CN may be making a comeback and returning to it's roots. CN was always pretty experimental and unafraid to try new things and that's what made it truly special.

This is what I love about this news is it’s not gonna be for kids anymore it’s going to be for everybody because animation is for everybody and Cartoon Network has always been the first to break through that norm. This is why I wasn’t worried as soon as I saw, he was announced to be the new person in charge of CN. the future is going to be very bright for Cartoon Network.

it’s meant to be a play on the phrase “shave and a haircut”, because saah was originally going to be a technology company; imax, but with old movie equipment
the saah channel would be your average run-of-the-mill “air-shows-from-this-time-to-that-time” channel, with a few dabs of warner bros cartoons and fun facts in-between the shows and commercials
as well as blocks based off of old channels’ glory, like “the boomerang block” would’ve been exactly like boomerang, but without all that “new looney tunes” and “chowder” that the current boomerang
i also had an idea for a competition named “the saah CNvN battle”, which is a voting system over which channel should have their own block on saah, Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network

I just want the TAWOG movie so bad. That show was such a big part of my childhood, i remember being a kid in elementary school and being excited to see the next new episode after school. Now i’m an adult, and i still love and adore the show.

Good news for us older fans, but praying CN still does well in the budget department. I understand that they have to stay afloat and follow trends sometimes which is unfortunate, but since they are really trying to steer into more meaningful shows, I hope it goes well for them and they don’t face issues down the road.

Hope 2023 would be a good year for Cartoon Network after the Warner Bros Discovery merger but at the same time I don't really have faith in CN unless they bring back the show affected by the Purge mainly Infinity Train, all I want is for Infinity Train to come back, but just hope 2023 is better than 2022 for Cartoon Network.

Im not really sure what she did tbh. I looked at the shows under her and there were still some good ones but I think the person who decided live action shows would be nice is worse. Chowder still is the funniest show on the channel even as an adult and they cancelled it because teens didn't care so we got low budget myth busters and Andrew WK.

Well now, this has my attention! I haven't been invested in a newer CN show since Steven Universe, so the network has some hope now to pump out new shows that can grab my attention. Though I am highly curious if this will have any impact on the new PPG reboot, which I'm excited for. The OG show was my love back as a child, and the 2016 reboot was a let down, so this one has some hope since Craig is running it.

I hope this also means that some of the recent prematurely cut shows, like Infinity train and Mao Mao, somehow come back.

I really hope with this new plan, Infinity Train can FINALLY continue and finally get its ending
Maybe Cartoon Network has been cancelling shows and not green lit new ones because they need time to get things together within the studio before they can resume production of new content. It’s like catching a cold or getting injured which means you must rest in order to heal.
I still hope that once Cartoon Network fully recovers from the merger, they can resume Mao Mao (if not, sell the rights back to it’s creator)

Good news, everyone! Cartoon Network is not dead! When I made my CN 30th anniversary video, the one that spans 29 minutes, I assumed the worst about Cartoon Network, but I still hoped for the best for it. Craig of the Creek will always be important to me because it was a big start for Philip Solomon, Lucia Cunningham and post-Suicide Squad Karen Fukuhara, and I hope it opens up many more opportunities for them. Until they find a new film or TV show to do, I will hear them again tomorrow at the Creek for the last couple of times in Season 5. December 9, 2022, 9:16am

Hope Disney and Nick follow CN footsteps. I think when it comes to entertainment, they all need a good reboot. Video games, movies, and TV. In most cases, there's nothing wrong with going back to your roots. In fact, it can be quite refreshing.

You can't expect for them to be good forever nor will they be terrible forever. That's we sometimes we need to look back at ourselves and think about how got to that point, how did we start? That's just how things are. It's no different than how we live as individuals.

As it stands I'm cautiously optimistic. I know that cartoon Network already has several cool sounding shows in the oven that we do know about, and I'm guessing that there's a lot more that we don't. I'm hoping this can also provide a second wind for shows that didn't get their chance such as infinity train. Or maybe it's just the infinity train fan in me running on hopium like every fan of that show does.

Many of the good shows Cartoon Network had were cancelled. Some of you may think they were ended by the creators of the show. No, the shows that were doing justice for Cartoon Network were ended. That is why the ending seasons of these shows seemed rushed. That is because they were, Cartoon Network put an end to many great shows and did it for who knows why. The reasoning behind why Cartoon Network shows are canceled is absurd.
Mind you these shows air on Cartoon Network in different locations. Some of these shows vary on where you live. But it blows my mind that these shows have such terrible ratings and are still being aired. Even the few older cartoons that are being re-ran on Cartoon Network, the ones they chose were ones that did terrible. Thank goodness Cartoon Network was thrown aside for the sake of their own well being. Cartoon Network does not care about what they put on TV. Its insane its taking Warner Brothers to step in and fix Cartoon Network's mess. Lets hope cartoons return to being good, because they have not been the last couple of years (minus a few).
Example: Infinity Train, which was extremely well recieved was cancelled for lacking a "child entry point." Because the main character was considered an adult and that it was not a show for kids. That does not matter, kids and adults enjoyed that show and Cartoon Network plucked it from the channel. Shows that can be enjoyed by both adults and kids are often well recieved. Look at the show Bluey for example. Lots of moments for kids, but includes heartwarming moments for parents to enjoy. Bluey is very relatable for many parents as well. Bluey worked out, in fact bringing a 9.6/10 rating on IMDb with over 11k positive reviews. With the first episode of Bluey having 84 million views on CZcams. Cartoon Network has blown chances that they should have not.
Point being, Cartoon Network has been front and center for being a laughing stock for years. Its hard to take them seriously when they are ending their own platform very rapidly at this point. If their goal is to go bankrupt, then they are doing one heck of a job of such. Their cartoon stories have been lackluster, their animation quality has rapidly declined, and the product shows the horror of terrible decision making at CN. Lets hope Warner Bros can bring Cartoon Network to their prime, its gonna be hard digging them out of their own grave though. Heck, at this point Cartoon Network has been the unsupervised child making a mess at home, while Warner Bros is the parent that finally comes home to see it

Facts. If it goes well, then Paramount Global and Disney can finally give more of their Action-packed and Teenager/Young Adult-oriented Animated shows a chance because the Teen/Young Adult Western Renaissance is just the beginning.

And less stuff that can be like Cocomelon, our true Nemesis for all of us who are Animation Lovers. The real enemy of our enemies (Cocomelon and the bad side of the ENTIRE Genshin Impact Fandom) would be our friends (everyone else).

I’m praying that this is actually the light at the end of the tunnel! By all accounts, it looks like CN might be in good hands despite everything happening/that’s happened this year! I recently watched a vid saying that the 2020s most likely will be the new dark age of animation, and while no one can confirm or deny that, it certainly feels that way. But moments like this reminds us that even the source or one of the sources of some mortifying problem can still have the potential to have a glimmer of hope!

Bro I'm so excited for the new era of actual good cartoons again. The kid focused era was a dark era but we finally passed it. And now they're citing Adventure Time as the golden standard for how new cartoons should be? FUCKING HELL YEAH

If Cartoon Network want to stay afloat and had barely any new in-house content for the short term, they really should consider licensing a few 3rd party shows! Both Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon aired a lot of 3rd party content in the 90s and 2000s, you Americans got to watch Hamtaro on Cartoon Network (it aired on Fox Kids here in the UK), Nickelodeon were the ones to bring you Butt Ugly Martians, a Mike Young Productions show (it aired on Citv here in the UK) and here in the UK, Cartoon Network was the channel Angela Anaconda and Cubix both aired on and Nickelodeon were the ones who brought us the mid-90s Littlest Pet Shop series and Extreme Ghostbusters! Also over here, Biker Mice From Mars aired on Nickelodeon when it was new but Fox Kids were the ones who put that show back on our screens a few years later, just like how Disney Channel was my country’s original home of Ned’s Newt, a show that later resurfaced via Cartoon Network! Here in the UK, Cartoon Network just started airing a new off-beat cartoon, Welcome To Earth (not to be confused with Elliott From Earth!) and I hear Cartoon Network France have been airing (might still be) Hilda, a Netflix show!
Personally, if I were made the new boss of Cartoon Network, I would:
- axe Teen Titans GO! (Not only was this show never any good to begin with but surely its original fans have now passed their driving tests?)
- overhaul the schedule so there’s plenty of variety, including some reruns of past shows, and no 1 show airs for more than 2 hours any 1 day
- do what’s needed to reverse the tax writeoffs of stuff like Mega XLR and Final Space
- see if Trick Moon can still be picked up
- release more shows, current and classic, on home media
- make sure all in-house shows, even including The Moxy Show and Robotomy but excluding the 2016 PPG reboot, continue to be easily available for generations to come

I was literally born in 1996, and grew up watching the golden cartoons of CN: Dexter's Laboratory, Ed, Edd and Eddy, Samurai Jack, Teen Titans and so on. This feels like a perfect dream right now! 😚😚😚
To be honest I'm really excited. Cartoon Network has had a lot of great things throughout the years, and as it began to collapse, I was heartbroken. I'm super hyped that it's making a rebound.
