  • In this video I talk about what I consider the best era of Cartoon Network, when we had shows like Adventure Time, Regular Show, and Gumball (there are more but these were my 3 favorite, and why the channel went so downhill.
My editing software wasn't fully functional, so this video doesn't meet the standard I would like to reach, but hopefully you still enjoy!

Okay, I'm a bit of a Cartoon Network fanatic and, watching this video, I had a few notes regarding some of the stuff you said in it. These are very much critiques, and though my intention is to sound nice saying these, if you feel I'm coming on too strong, you can just ignore my comment. Anyway, here's what I got to say: (Warning: long)
0:34 - I really don't agree with calling the time between 2007-2019 "The Golden Age of CN". That just sounds like the time you started and stopped watching the channel and ignores a lot of Cartoon Network's prior history, as well as grouping in multiple very different eras together.
Without delving into the channel's history much, Cartoon Network started in the 90s and (most people agree) entered its' "Golden Age" in the mid 2000s when many shows were running at the same and provided the greatest variety of programming in the channel's history - from older shows like Ed, Edd 'n Eddy and Codename: Kids Next Door airing new episodes, new cartoons debuting like Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and Ben 10 Classic, as well as even older shows, that had already concluded by this point, receiving a lot of reruns. Late 2000s, after the end of the widely-acclaimed CN City era, was actually a point in time when the channel was in decline for a bit, reaching the bottom with CN Real, which nobody liked. Then in 2010 is when Cartoon Network entered it's Revival Era and interest in the channel was revitalized for a new generation.
Also, the pictures used to describe 2007 and 2019 are very incorrect.
0:45 - Ben 10 Reboot ended in 2021 and Craig of the Creek is maybe cancelled (kinda hard to tell, but it's been suffering greatly because of the WB and Discovery merger).
0:56 - Star Wars the Clone Wars ended in 2005, years prior to Ben 10 Alien Force and Total Drama Island's debuts.
1:08 - The channel had serialized shows of different levels prior to the ones you mentioned - Kids Next Door, OG Teen Titans and Ben 10 Classic are good examples.
2:13 - Ben 10 Alien Force wasn't cancelled. It concluded and transitioned into Ben 10 Ultimate Alien, which was basically just Alien Force seasons 4, 5 and 6.
4:39 - Well, not really. A good number of the older shows were just as geared towards kids as Gumball was, including something as close to it in release date as early seasons Adventure Time. Actually, shows like Ben 10 Alien Force, Generator Rex and Regular Show, that had a slightly older target audience in mind, were the exception.
5:16 - I wouldn't exactly say that a channel that has been around since the 90s was finding its identity in the 2010s. Maybe finding a new identity for itself, but even then I'm not really sold on this.
6:24 - For the kids that grew up in the 2010s, sure. However, this statement disregards all of the channel's prior history. Many can say (and have said) the exact same thing about the CN City era in the mid 2000s. Not to mention that during the 2010s a lot of older fans would post these "old CN (90s - 2000s) - good vs new CN (2010 - present) - bad" edits, which I'm certain you've seen. There's ones floating around now that are the exact same format, except "old CN" is now the early to mid 2010s and "new CN" is late 2010s to present. I personally don't agree with either of these.
9:17 - Total Drama ISLAND ended back in 2008. What you're thinking of is Total Drama All-Stars and Total Drama Pahkitew Island - the show's 5th and 5.5th seasons. They had a different name for every season. (Quite frankly with how awful those two were, good riddance. Franchise needed a break anyway.) Also, I might be wrong here, but from what I saw, this 2014 'cancellation wave' only consisted of the aforementioned Total Drama and Ben 10 Omniverse.
10:35 - Ben 10 Alien Force had ended 6 years prior to the reboot, true, but in the meantime we had its' direct sequel Ben 10 Ultimate Alien and after it - the less direct, part reboot - Ben 10 Omniverse, the latter of which ended only 2 years prior to the 2016 reboot airing. To this day there's not been a 6-year gap in which the Ben 10 franchise wasn't airing new episodes of some kind since its beginning in 2005.
Going this hard on the Ben 10 reboot when the Powerpuff Girls reboot debuted the same year and was exactly what you described Ben 10 (2016) to be, but way worse; Also, the Ben 10 reboot is actually quite liked by long-time fans of the franchise, at least after Season 1.
11:40 & 12:34 - Teen Titans Go! was overwhelmingly dominating the CN schedule, but the Ben 10 reboot wasn't aired that often. Actually the show that would consistently be 2nd in how much it was shown is Gumball. There was a big gap between Teen Titans Go! and Gumball, but Gumball really couldn't complain about screen time. Everything else did suffer tho.
13:21 - Ben 10 was rebooted as a 10-year-old because Ben was already 10 years old in the classic series and the creators wanted to start anew, without the continuity of the prior 4 shows.

honestly happy this comment exists because my sources werent always 100% accurate, I originally wanted to call the video something along the lines of “The Renaissance of Cartoon Network” but decided against this just because of youtube title methodology.
I did a couple days of research but clearly I did not do enough, so I’m going to pin this comment as a list of corrections

      Edit:
Hold on, I was wrong about Star Wars the Clone Wars. The CGI one, shown in the pic, debuted in 2008, nvm. I accidentally looked up the earlier 2D one when double checking the dates.
Now, I'm not a Star Wars fan, so idk why the two cartoons have the exact same title, baring a single "the", but I'm using this as my excuse for the mistake, lol.

@@10Bendog Excellent message. I'm glad you pointed out the mistakes in this video. Now personally I think the late 90's-early 2000's (Powerhouse era) is more of CN's golden age rather than CN City era from the mid 2000's (which I think is the silver age), however, it's a matter of opinion on which era is better than the other... both eras were definitely the prime and peak of CN especially for anyone who was a kid growing up at the time.
I was in elementary school for the 2nd half of the Powerhouse and all of the City and fully grew up enjoying those. I was thankful to be apart of that. I was in middle school during the Fall & Nood eras which were trash... and that still stands to this day. That was the demise of classic CN and outside of Chowder, Flapjack, and Total Drama Island there wasn't much to look forward to at that time...and CN Real was awful. Yes, CN did have a Revival or Renaissance in the early 2010's (high school for me) but it wasn't long before Teen Titans Go and other reboots completely damaged the network by the late 2010's.

Adventure Time is actually very much alive and blooming. While not on CN, there are two miniseries made after the show's ending on HBO max that furthered the lore and story, and there is another serie in the making right now. I think HBO kind of adopted the show while still keeping the writers and such.
