  • Gilas Pilipinas, despite missing Jordan Clarkson, achieved an upset victory over host Latvia in the FIBA OQT, propelled by Justin Brownlee's near triple-double (26-9-9) and strong showing from Kai Sotto. The victory against Latvia puts Gilas Pilipinas in a promising position to advance to the OQT semifinals. On top of that, the Philippines claimed their first win against European opposition in an official FIBA competition since 1960.

      thanks, a lot of the gilas fans are actually worried before the qualifiers began , we were expecting some good performances in this qualifiers but we didn't expect to beat the 6th best in the world.
      gilas team had played in the qualifiers before but always in a losing effort. your team was amazing to watch as well. we rarely get to see euro-basket in the philippines it's always NBA , but i think euro-basketball is leagues better.

    As a Filipino, even though phones are prohibited from my job, we still watched it. Expected gilas to be close. Maybe lose by single digits at the least. But from the first quarter alone we knew that this squad was different. They played with passion (more than usual bc Filipinos play with heart always) and even the coaching staff showed passion. Well deserved win.

    Pinakita ng gilas pilipinas ang susi ng panalo yan ung 40 minutes of agressive & consistent defense to limit ang scoring ng kalaban, kasi ang offense darating yan pag maganda ang depensa ng team.
    Pag na maintain ng gilas pilipinas ang magandang depensa pinakita kagabi, malaki ang chance na makuha ang isang slot sa paris olympics.

      @jajaja922 Před dnem

      @@trishislove04 I wish this would be true. Latvia never had worse system, or players then Lithaunia, but Latvia always sucked, because of cocain, match rigging, and gambling. Latvian basketball association has baned such names as legendary Valters son, Briedins who was first drafted in NBA, Kambala, who even was thrown away from NBA for cocain. SInce 1991 independece from Soviets, our Basketball team have been involved in huge scanadals, and even with famous Malaysian gambling syndicate. I was fine losing to Philly, but a soon as i saw Bra losing to complete shit team Cameroon, and knowing how rigged are Brazil sport, just one thing in mind came. And i am sad of it, as old stuff is coming back to Latvian basketball, it means basketball hasnt returned back to Latvia, this is why i am sad.

      @jajaja922 Před dnem

      @@trishislove04 1. Money, koig for Philly to win was 17.5, put 1m, and you have 17.5m 2. By losing to Phill they took out Georgia who is 23th rank. 3. Bra losing to cameroon, took out monetnegro 17th rank. Basicly BRA and LV rigged their games to give each other in 1/2 shitty teams. I wonder if famous Malaysian syndicate was invovled in this too. If.....IF....BRA and LV steamroll both teams, it was 100% rigged. And as i said, i am very happy Philly won to LV, but if it is match riggind, as Latvian i would be just sad, as old match rigging has came back to Latvia, and basketball will be lost once again.
