- Going back to 2019, Defacement rapidly gained momentum within the underground with two full-length records marked by an intense and experimental take on death and black metal, Deviant (2019) and self-titled Defacement (2021). Three long years after their latest output, the international band flares its cryptic head yet again with an epic tome of twisted and gnarly emanations, an immersive pathway into the void entitled Duality.

Ive been a huge fan of Defacement since their first album, Deviant. Khalil is a beast on guitar.
Yeah really like them since their 2021 release. Really opressive atmosphere. I've been digging the first Void Witch LP a lot!! And I can't wait for the next Blood Incantation release!!!🤟🤟🤟
The Laceration album is really good!
Anybody else get an ad right after he celebrated the ad-free zone? lol
Defacement is a great band, I discovered them last year and I love them since then!
Great review, got me excited to do my annual exploration through the I, Voidhanger catalog (I realize that Defacement has moved to AvantGarde for this release). So much good stuff in there.
Blayne, would you consider doing a deep dive into labels like this and draw attention to some gems.
Agreed on the interludes. The actual songs are great and I was surprised when I found this record and it pulled me right in.
They pass my "I'll only listen if I can't read the logo" test. Cool! Also, I like to think that they added horns because they're big fans of Reel Big Fish. Thanks for the video, Blayne.
Great album and great band!. Been looking forward to it and it did not disappoint. Love the review as always.
Best Judas Priest album since Painkiller.
Check out Verberis if you dig this... Dissonant death is getting better and better!
i take underground music any day, could remain like that through the year, much more interesting than the majority of releases we normally get
Was just listening to this! Pretty good but I could do without the interludes and “pretty” parts.
This album is great but only if you ignore the interludes.
Did I miss something? Why wasn't the new Suffocation reviewed?
It's like if Rivers of Nihil made music that I actually like... sounds nice. At this point I pretty much only listen to underground death metal and dark ambient, so if I can get both things in one album 👍
Totally enjoy everything since found them years ago. I love this album but I still love their previous album better.
Those ambient tracks are annoying as shit, man. I had to create a Spotify playlist containing only the actual songs from the album so I don't have to skip them after every song.
Loving that systemik violence t-shirt 👌🏼
Just happy here in tha' underground....
Finally, a band from the Netherlands you can pronounce! How's the Wiegedood coming along? :P
Easy to pronounce, and from Belgium.
Thanks!
I will buy this album at some point.
"I am a bidet man. I just pat dry with sandpaper afterwards." Quote of the video. 😂
Bidet supremacy
Found them when you mentioned their previous record years ago on a metal monthly! Love that cover, one of my favorites of all time, great band.
Great album
WHOA! That Hypoglossal song gave me those good Chemlab vibes -Chemlab was the shit!
🤘
I am definitely going to check this band out! New Worm Witch is Fucking Sick🔥👍👍🤘🤘
A new thing altogether 🆒
You think July was dry, next week is the worst yet. Out of 40 new releases I previewed, I found TWO keepers. Let's see if yall can find them. Thanks for giving this one love, I haven't seen another soul mention it in the two weeks I've been flogging people to check the advance tracks.
Laceration takes 1st place for me
So Blayne shits all over Deathcore constantly yet drools over this kind of dreck. Make it make sense.
Amazing album, horrible review.
for how long are we going to act like blast beats arent completely stale and boring and old and all the same
I guess as long as we have an ounce of youthful vigor in us.
Lol troll harder.
I think blast beats are like great seasoning. You gotta have the perfect balance of blast beats and other kind of rhythm/grooves. If you get too much of them, it turns repetitive, which is boring.
