Dear Banger, please never change. You guys are doing so great and it's awesome to see a nice produced metal channel that reviews actual metal from all genres and places. Love you guys!
Thanks so much Jeroen, you get us!
The nerd and the stoner is a good match up 🤘
Who's the nerd and the stoner?
agree. such dynamic made this fun to watch
The two best goodest boys right there ^^
ARE YOU SAYING THEY'RE DOGS SIR??
"Portal seemingly doesn't want you to listen to them"
Best description of Portal I've ever heard.
Hey friends... A reminder that these are records chosen by YOU! In a poll of the albums from 2018 that we missed reviewing. [Usually because they came out the same week as another record we wanted or needed to cover.] So if you don't like the Top 5, get subscribed to the channel so you don't miss the "call for votes" videos.
Sometimes it's the harsh reality that the super underground bands just aren't gonna get the vote. This is a fair, quality list.... except one pick, but that's just my own taste. I would personally like to see this done twice a year, or even a "vote your album" quarterly edition.
@@theakkusor this is the second one of those, I think Brad and Sarah did the first one. But I agree. Generally everyone seems to want more content. Cause this channel is awesome. Hence the patrion campaign
You're right Jake. This is our second one this year and will be doing more in 2019!
Well fuck me sideways, guess I should do a little digging b4 I open my mouth. Keep up the good work and the underground stuff coming.
@Chemical Javed Yeah like damn dude. They also missed JOHN LENNON - THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION. It's 6 cd's of the finest face melting riffs and brutality...... Come on bruh, they can't get everything! Relax!
I only found Revocation this year due to getting into Rivers of Nihil, and I’m loving the new album. Both bands go hard live too!!
Now off to get some Portal and Horrendous in my life.
I think I echo most people’s sentiments in hoping you guys can carry on doing this, and in this style. All great reviewers, you guys all know what you’re talking about and seem to really thrive on talking about new music. It makes it more enjoyable to watch when we know you’re enjoying yourselves!!
Keep it up
Horrendous + Portal - Two incredible death metal albums that both sound as if they were forged in the primordial ooze by Prehistoric Alien Reptiles.
Idol was miles better than Ion
@@user-pq3hg7dk9h nah
@@isaacdissonance3967 Hmmm Yah
@@isaacdissonance3967 portal sounds like a mess I get the idea but that doesn’t save it from sounding like a bunch of random shit being played on the guitar horrendous is light years higher in their playing and song writing
"Its 99 percent dudes" I'm dead 😂 and sad because it's TRUE 😭
But I watch all the time, the one percent😎🤘🤘😋
Thanks for doing this, guys. In times when people are saying that the album is dying, you're going in depth into this challenging music and bringing it to us, much appreciated, I learned about a lot of good shit from here. Rock on!
Blayne's BY FAR my favourite reviewer for Banger. The new dude Dylan is also fun to listen to.
I'm definitely a big Revocation fan, but I totally get Blayne's response. Compared to something like Portal, they do come off as vanilla. But doesn't that show everyone how diverse and boundary pushing metal is? When a band like Revocation is considered kind of "middle of the road". Also, the Imperial Triumphant album broke my brain this year. Everything sounds like pop music next to that!
Vanilla that punches you in the face.
+1
Try secrioned and Frontierer make imperial triumphant a old jazz band ...psychotic stuff
Frontierer sound like they're attempting to pierce my ear drums and make me shit my pants simultaneously! Gnarly stuff!! @@isaacdissonance3967
@@NihonBallz hahhahaha glad you smash it!!!
As a Finn it's nice to see you guys repping those two shirts. Especially Hooded Menace.
🇫🇮
Blayne, my metal album of the year was Hamferd, thank you for reviewing it, what a masterpiece.
Man this was awesome, especially the Portal review!! :D
Best quality reviews I’ve ever seen put together. From the production to knowledge you guys present great insight to records from the entire genre. Please keep it up. Blake start a standup career or podcast immediately
Super funny review. Dylan and Blayne should do this even more often
Liked the dynamic between Dylan and Blayne. Good work.
Some quite cool tips on this list for me . Will defenitly give Portal and Horrendous some listening. Cheers from Sweden!
YES!!! So glad y'all touched on Ion, that's one of my top metal albums of the decade. Love y'all!!!
Love all the Banger talent. Each reviewer has a unique strength that serves the channel well. I also really enjoy these team-ups. Blayne and Dylan really make for a good balancing of the scales. Thought for 2019: how about a full-squad Banger Voltron? Too unwieldy? Either way...glad to support the channel. Thanks for the great content. Cheers! \m/
Good to see Dylan becoming a little more playful and comfortable in this context. Great video. Keep it up
Hadn't heard of Alkaloid prior to this video. Checked them out and loved them. I have found more good metal via your videos than any other method. Thanks a million!
Alkaloid is amazing. Check out their side projects as well.
It's absolutely tragic that such a great record that is The Crown's "Cobra Speed Venom", which by the way dropped in FEBRUARY, will remain forgotten. Such a beast comeback album by a legendary thrash-melodeath band.
Good choice, they were like the first band to blend Swedish melodeath, classic death metal, and a Motorhead/NWOBHM vibe... very unique stuff, especially for the turn of the millenium!
I agree, they really came back with a vengeance for this one, by far the best thing they put out since Crowned in Terror
elvisman2000 Didn’t even know they a new one out. Just got it. I find out about more bands in the comment section of angry metal guy and the comment section on Banger than the reviews themselves.
AlucardsQuest I found out about them back in 2005 and I was amazed they weren’t as popular as At The Gates or In Flames.
That 3 album run from Hell is Here to Crowned in Terror was insane! Death Race King being the best of course! Everything since then while ok to good is still disappointing to me, almost like they lost the fire.
This was very fun to watch. The "odd couple" vibe between you two is popcorn-worthy.
These two work so well together
You two should do more vids together, the contrast is priceless and straight hilarious.
Your funny as hell, Blayne! Your delivery and timing is improving !
I am really impressed with Amorphis Queen of Time. have to check some of these other ones out. Nice job guys!
Good to see Banger TV actually reviewing metal rather than trying to be Smash Hits clones like the 'metal' mags are. Great job guys.
That's why i love Banger. When i think "Metal" i think of thrash, doom, death metal and grindcore. The mainstream seems to think the only metal bands that exist are Slipknot and Avenged Sevenfold. Well i wouldn't call Avenged Sevenfold metal but that's how clueless most normies are.
@@spiderjerusalem100 there are plenty of publications out there who focus on extreme and underground metal, though
@@shawnsmith8558 source? I am genuinely interested. Moar please

It's 2021 and I'm gonna repeat my comment once again. I just can't get enough of this duo.. too good!!(2)
By the way, did you guys hear Ghastly and Chapel of Disease? Ghastly's on 20 Buck Spins and CoD has been on various labels, but their latest on Van Records is fucking stellar!
I love Tomb Mold so much it hurts. Blayne you my favorite, Dylan you have grown on me. My favorite fruits are strawberries
Bacon wrapped strawberries while cranking tomb mold while cranking something else. Sounds like a great day
@@theakkusor you son of a gun don't tease me like that
@@theakkusor "Bacon Wrapped Strawberries"....would be a cool screen name.
For me, Portal Ion was easily the AOTY, listening to this album is more of an experience than a listen, emerging then disappearing into the fog of atmosphere the bookends it really helps your brain to process the alien compositions, and mind bending guitar work. And 'cleaning' up there sound was the equivalent to turning the lights on in the basement just to realise the monster is real, and far more terrifying than you could have conceived. 10/10
Nope
@@user-pq3hg7dk9h Just my opinion, I can completely understand why people wouldn't like/ get into them but you can at least appreciate their unique approach to music/ compositions.
The font analogy is so accurate lol
Altar of Perversion- Intra Naos, Dakhma- Hamkar Atonement, Death Karma- HIstory of Death and Burial RItuals II, Mare- Ebony Towers
I discovered Horrendous this year from BangerTV, I revisit the new album Idol so much that I even picked up a physical copy. It really is an enjoyable album.
Lmao omg when Dylan smacked Blayne! Shit, feel like Dylan got Blayne back for his solid arguments in the last tag team video XD... too funny!
Damn! Was hoping to see Tomb Mold on here. At least they got in on the shout-outs! EASILY in my top 5 of the year.
5. Jyotisavedanga - Thermogravimetry Warp Continuum
4. Archgoat - The Luciferian Crown
3. Reek of the Unzen Gas Fumes - Buddha Composted Pond
2. Konflict - Trigger Universal Conflict
1. Anaal Nathrakh - A New Kind of Horror
(Anaal Nathrakh blows everything on this list out of the water imo. They’re one of the only bands I know that can fuse Industrial, Black Metal, Grindcore, Death Metal, and soaring clean vocals, all while being catchy and melodic af.)
Solid list, cool reviews, Blayne and Dylan, what's not to like?
I was expecting to see ingested. Gotta love Blayne.
1. Creature - Inquiétudes
2. Chapel Of Disease - ...And As We Have Seen The Storm, We Have Embraced The Eye
3. Esoctrilihum - Inhüma
Runners up: Alkaloid - Liquid Anatomy, Hecate - Une Voix Venue d'Ailleurs,
Missed out not doing Stranger Fruit imho. Great reviews regardless
yeah zeal & ardor really put out an exciting album there!
that album is fucking amazing man, easily one of my favourite metal albums this year for me
Agreed, Stranger Fruit is my #4 album of the year in a year of amazing metal.
DON'T YOU DARE LOOK AWAY, BOY
Yeah, that's a great album.
Saw them three times this year, better each time. Let's just hope they don't become the next Ghost.
Two of my top three this year were in this list ( Amorphis, Horrendous). I'm pretty happy with this video.
So happy PORTAL got picked!
Portal reminds me of the Evil Within games too. They're perfect to listen to while reading a Titus Crow story or any cosmic horror story. Totally worked with Robert W. Chamber's King in Yellow.
Good set of albums! My 5 would have to be:
**Beyond Creation for a great Death metal album with intermixed tech/prog/melodic elements. Epic without being cheesy. I keep wavering between this and Alkaloid for the style.
**Somali Yacht Club: What a well written album. The melodies are soaring and picks up elements of Stoner, Prog, and Post metal/rock.
**Drudkh: What a return to form after being mediocre on more recent releases. Retains their newer production style but goes back a little more towards their older style of Atmoblack.
**Necrophobic for strong AF melodic black Dissection worship. Incredibly catchy with loads of energy. While Uada gets the hype this one is the clear winner for the style.
**Urfaust for some amazing psychedelic droning Black/Doom. Simultaneuosly heavy and listenable. Simply trance invoking. My AOTY.
Necrophobic came out the same year as dissection.
I'm glad High on fire was included, I really enjoyed that album 🤘
Wolfheart....... :(
SO underrated! In my top 10 two years in a row. Great live show. I love everything they do.
Glad you guys talked about amorphis.
🤘🏼 rock u do. Thank u for another banger vid🤘🏼
Seen high on fire in my home town at a small club was incredible
more of these 2 together!
Good list, Queen of Time is the album of the year for me. Hate Eternal was pretty good too.
By the way, nice Swallow The Sun shirt man
i was last saturday on amorphis gig in oulu finland!!was fucking awesome!!!hail!!
Dylan and Blayne sitting side by side is like a Before\After photo but I'm not sure which is which.
I've never heard Portals until now, but just from that clip yall played, I dig it. Definitely going to give that album a full listen to so I can form a better opinion on them. I like weird so I'll see how I like it. Yall mentioned Revocation. They're one of those bands I love to see live, but have a hard time just sitting down and listening to an album front to back. Could just be me, but again I love seeing them live.
Portal, Horrendous and Revocation were exactly what I wanted to see!! Such a fucking awesome and diverse year for Death Metal! Would've loved to see Skeletal Remains on here too, but I guess it would've been too Death heavy, so I'm still stoked over these reviews
Love High on Fire, like Portal, don't quite get the other three. I hope Banger fans will like more Black/Doom metal works next time, great review as always guys
Warrel Dane - Shadow Work deserved to be mentioned, even if only for historical reasons.
For people who like Portal, check out the band Aevangelist.
Loved it! I'd wished you guys reviewed the new album my MOL, "JØRD". But still, excellent choices! Would love Sylvaine's "Atoms Aligned, Coming Undone", as well.
One cannot sound more Canadian than Blayne
It's kinda cool to see so many album covers from artists that were obviously inspired by the one and only Pushead!
Preach with dave being underrated, hes so good
Love this countdown. Glad to see High on Fire was one of the chosen. Another band I think should have been reviewed is " Jinjer " , their album " King of Everything " has done very well and their tours with Arch Enemy and Cradle of Filth have been epic , plus almost every reaction CZcams channel has reviewed and went nuts over Tatianna's vocals . They should get a mention for sure.
I feel like I’m always ready to throw five skulls at almost every new metal record just for existing. “THANK YOU FOR MAKING NEW METAL MUSIC!!!!”
this is the best metal channel of all time
Ugh I really wanted a review from Zeal and ‘Arbor.’ Haha
Thou, Avast, Gaerea, Deadbird, Anaal Nathrak, Psycroptic, Messa, Boss Keloid
Thou and Anaal Nathrakh were both in my top 10
I'm glad that Soulfly and Hate Eternal got a mention, but I'm really digging the new Monstrosity and The Crown albums!
You guys! I want a cooking segment with you both because Blayne would be high and I think you'd both look good in chef's hats!
Yes, another tag team! I personally love Portal, Horrendous and to a lesser extent, Revocation. Not a fan of Amphoris tbh
Great duo! Laughed my ass of! "Perverts like you..." :D
Dylan and Blayne are awesome!
I love how I'm watching this and playing guitar
I can totally see Blayne and Dylan become a superhero/sidekick duo. Best tag team
You guys are great
Tribulation's Down Below?
Super Mario they did another “What We Missed” video earlier this year where they included Tribulation, don’t worry.
Skeletal remains-devouring mortality my album of the year rn
Great album! Old School Morbid Angel worship!
The Portal review, lol :D
Speaking of Amorphis' song "The Bee". Amorphis has always been heavily influenced by Finnish mythology and a bee has a very important role in the Finnish national Epic, Kalevala.
I love Portal, extreme avant-garde death metal
I was really surprised by The Agony Scene’s return this year....it’s good to hear some metalcore that has a lot of aggression and energy! Also the new Psycroptic is fucking incredible.
Our Raw Heart is definitely album of the year
My favorite was The Sciences, by Sleep. Love it.
Voices-frightened. Peter Benjamin and David Gray from Akercocke. A must listen.
I'm from Texas, so I'm really curious what band Dylan wanted to talk about at the end
Alkaloid liquid anatomy
AOTY
@@tlr9403 definitely. Last song is one of the best songs I ever heard. And the rest of the album is also bafflingly awesome
Great album. Check out Beyond Creation if you enjoy this. Slightly less techy and a little more epic sounding but equally amazing.
@@MrDraehl the new BC was kinda dissapointed , felt like Earthborn Evolution with some orchestration thrown in, not very memorable imo. But some song are really great: Entre suffrage et Mirage and The Inversion. But I still gotta give it a few listens, was to busy lietening to Gorod's new album
yup Aethra is fucking sick too. Honestly a crime that Alkaloid isnt mention uhhhh hello its basically Necrophagist/Obscura Evolved. Hannes Grossmann, Christian Muenzner, Linus Klausenitzer, Florian Magnus Maier, Danny Tunker ONE OF THE BEST LINEUPS DUMMIES WHY DO YOU NOT KNOW ABOUT THEM HAHA. So many people ask "New Necrophagist album?" fake ass fans there is a new and improved version right in front of you. @@tlr9403
What’s the song playing in the outro? Does anybody know?
Late comment, I know, but just want to thank Dylan for letting me know about Cynic! Loving Focus, can't believe I never knew about these guys before!
Give me that Swallow the Sun shirt.
Dylan looks stoned while Blayne is talking!... ROFL!
How about Reverence by Parkway Drive? Its more rock orientated but still is a killer metal album
How did you guys get Jake Gyllenhaal on the show with Blayne?
I don't recall you guys reviewing Fukpig's Bastards.
PORTAL!!! Hell yeah!! \m/
Would be nice if there was a list of all the bands each review, so I could copy/paste and easily buy them. As of now, I can only bother to type in 2-3 of them then go to checkout.
Hi Karsten. Check the video description. In almost all of our Overkill Review videos, you'll find the links to the records covered (including shout outs) so you can directly go and buy/listen. For this one, you still have the artist and title for easy copy pasting. Happy shopping!
2:59 😂😂love it
You missed Sigh, "Heir to Despair." It's cool as hell.
What's the title of the song played at the end of the video? Thanks
