- CAVALERA has become synonymous with extreme metal music, a name that to this day still holds the highest regard, a family legacy built upon decades of musical aggression.
Schizophrenia is an iconic album in terms of early thrash and death metal, a household name for those of us invested in extreme metal. This was the point where the Cavaleras refined their dark, dingy, speed-influenced songs, into something a bit more mature, developed, and technical. Decades later, they have once more unlocked the asylum that is Schizophrenia, opening the doors to that banished, twisted recording which will be unleashed unto to world on June 21st via Nuclear Blast Records.

This album turns your picking hand into a monster. So cool they breathed fresh life into this, really looking forward to spinning my copy!
Schizophrenia is actually my fav Sepultura record, so this re-recording is a real gift to me, absolutely love it. Great to hear from you again, Sam! \m/
Mine as well
Same dude, it's so fuckin good!
Same here!
Same here
If it was your favourite why would you like it more re recorded
Always nice to see Papa Dunn back in front of the camera talking metal.
Still got mixed feelings for Re-recorded Schizophrenia. Although I loved Bestial and Morbid 2025 vr, I don't think the new Schizo didn't get my heart due to the fact I have always loved the original the way it is, with all the imperfections. For us Brazilians it was the Mark one of death/thrash and it became a reference of how a metal album should sound at the time. The raw energy and the bestiality was there and the Lo fi production alongside the criativity and technical (thanks to mr Kisser) was part of it all.
agreed 100%. it didnt warrant a re-recording. it doesnt bring anything new to the table. the original is better
@@coldacre Hard disagree. I can count the amount of albums on which I complain about bad production on one hand, buit Schizophrenia is probably the worst one I can think of. It's waaaaaay worse than the 2 first ones.
There's just something about the guitar frequencies that's physically painful to my ears, and I listen to a lot of 80s/early 90s Thrash, Death and Black Metal with dogshit production.
If there ever was an album that needed to be rerecorded, this was the BY FAR most worthy candidate.
Listened to this album in its entirety at the gym today. Total fucking banger! People were staring at me while I played air guitar in between reps, it was great!
Although the production is obviously far better, I feel it still maintained its edge and raw energy. Very cool how Max kept the reverb effect in his vocals to give it that 80’s feel. I plan on jamming this entire album at the gym again tomoro 🤘🏼
I loved this re-recording, but I really hope they do not re-record 'Beneth The Remains', is my favourite Thrash Metal album of all time and is perfect as it is.
At least they should have Andreas and Paulo reunited first, if they go for it.
I hope they do. It’s a great album and it would be cool to hear it with modern production. The original will still be there so no harm done.
I doubt they will remake that album. That album had really good production (Scott Burns) at the time compared to their older stuff. That's definitely an album that should be left as is.
Not gonna happen.
They won't touch it
those cavalera re-recorded triology never disappointed.
Well I was disappointed in Troops of Doom, because it's no where near as good as the 1990 re-recording
@@Gregbaltzer i know, because his drumming pace was slightly slower than the original.
@@TheThreeCount There are now 3 versions of Troops of Doom. It was already re-recorded once back in 1990. So this is the second time they re-recorded it.
I missed you Sam, I would love to see more reviews from you in the near future 🙏 💪👍🤘🤘
Discovered Sepultura sometime after release of Arise. Grew up in a small town, parents refused to pay for cable, local radio station was garbage. Bought Arise because the of the cover art. Got home and popped it in the shit player I had. They were a great change from Metallica and Megadeth. Not long after discovering Arise they release Chaos AD. None of my metalhead friends liked them for the longest time. Sepultura brought a whole different world in their lyrics and their sound made them stand out.
Nice review, the album sounds amazing! Greetings from Brazil!
It's good to see you still at it. Keep pushing big dawg
Insanely good sounding re-recording. Love the treatment these guys are giving their classics.
Hey Sam, make a Cavalera /sepultura Doc. !!!
Yes, I second that. Documenting Sepultura from the early days till the Chaos AD era. Recording Roots was Sepultura succumbing to the nu-metal peer pressure and their need to feel relevant to the times. Personally speaking, I don't understand the need to fit in if their music was accepted by metalheads.
We want to! Roots is a fantastic album
@@BangerTV you need to be ready for the last concert... they are going to reunite - need to document that--
Besides the album being a 5/5. The artwork on these re-records is freaking awesome.
Who’s the new guy on Banger?
lmao!
he looks familiar
nice to see Sam back!
I'm glad you are back! I'm fed up with the bad jokes of your collegue.
Great to see you again, Sam. I'm sure you get this often, but have you thought about another season of Metal Evolution? The subgenre's keep evolving.
The Cavalera re-recordings are so awesome!
Dude, you are the only one on this channel who presents proper presentations...non pretentious and without lame wannabe comedy...you show proper knowledge and respect even if you may not like the material... very objective. I wish the others would learn from such dedication and delivery. Up the Irons.
Sam you can give it 6 skulls i love this rerecord
So now we wait for the re-recording of "Beneath the Remains". Can't wait to hear what they would make out of "Innerself". However (!!!!) while Max's riffs and vocals and Igor's drums defined the base sound of Sepultura, it was really Andreas' work that leveraged the sound of the band to new levels. I would never forget the moment "Terrirory" came out and we heard that solo - it was short, but it was just out of this world that sound he achieved and the way he played it.
Not gonna happen.
@@marz_coelho a lot of people said that they will not re-record Schizophrenia as well.
@@1983mhc No one said that about Schizophrenia. Everyone saw it coming. The Sepultura albums had poor production prior to them signing to Roadrunner. That was the only flaw of the early albums. Beneath the Remains had fine production produced by Scott Burns... The album could be remastered or remixed if done the right way.
@@butchvito there is a big difference between remaster and re-recorded or am I wrong. Schizophrenia in original sounds just fine.
@@1983mhc The thing revolves around copyrights: Nuclear Blast did not get the rights to re-record the first 3 Sepultura albums, they just went ahead and released it without Cogumelo's ok or any kind of agreement. That was possible because the tiny Brazilian label has no means to contest it worldwide, only locally. That's why those albuns were not and will not be released in South America. From Beneath and on, it belongs to Roadrunner, and that's a different story.
The Brothers Cavalera were able to merge two generation of musicians to work on re-recording that,it is simply magic. They were extremely careful to keep the original stuff untouchable without making grimly change in order to avoiding the run-away of spirituality that time. And it was preserved on this re-making.Besides,getting meet together dual different schools to double down on reanimation the elder Sepultura:The Brazilian old school linking to the new North-American School.
The perfectly metallica chemistry in total combination working well and giving sense to all hard work to beef up that in terms of production.
How they managed to teach Max the guitar again is just awesome. I thought he would go into full Paul Di'Anno mode some years ago.
Very Awesome to see Sam Dunn again! I think the last time I saw Sam was the Cavalera Conspiracy Review last Year that he gave a 5 skull Rating 👍🤘🤘
Hey, a blurry No Means No book cameo!
Came for the Cavalera review, left with a burning need to see the Jackie Shane documentary.
The brothers need to carry on the name!
Sam makes really good points in this review. But i can’t shake the feeling that Iggor and Max are trying to rewrite Sepultura’s history without Andreas and Paulo. I hope this is the last time they do that
Welcome back Sam! We miss you man! Btw, when did the band change their name from Cavalera Conspiracy to Cavalera?
not sure, I think its just been for these re-releases.
Officially they haven’t. It’s still Cavalera Conspiracy. They’re just having fun with the Sepultura logo.
It's been a while since a "new" album has made me this happy. Andreas being a part of it is the icing on the cake. Love it.!
Is he?
@@frederikvorderhake2716 No, he's not.
so great to hear a good sepultura album -re-recording but fck it sounds so fcking good
So great,. thanks
Inquisition Symphony > Call of Ktulu, fight me…
Uff... a dificult chose, but...
Both rule but no.
Orion > Inquisition Symphony > Call of Cthulhu
No contest bro, that Inquisition intro sounds so evil and creepy it’s like the auditory equivalent of someone’s sanity unraveling within their helpless mind. Ktulu is great but yea Inquisition clears
might be the best re-recording ever done.
This was my 2nd Sepultura album back in the early 90s after I bought Beneath. This re-recording is just heavenly!
Totally agree. Deserves more than 5. Awesome.
I love the original Schizophrenia album but have never been able to find it on vinyl so getting this new re recorded version on vinyl makes me so happy. It sounds so freaking good!
Soulfly, Nailbomb, Killer be Killed, and a long etc with the Max proyects... I love them
Giving this above a 5 star review is why this guy is a legend. In a day an age when some are afraid to give out perfect scores Sam Dunn says look at how metal I am!
Oh and yeah. Can't wait to jam this one.
8:53 Nightmares of Delirium wasn't a song they decided to leave off of the original, it's a brand new song that they wrote just recently.
Great review, as always. I heard the original album a couple years after initial release. After Beneath the Remains actually. Once I heard Beneath, I just needed more! To me, I liked the raw gritty sound of Schizo but what I LOVED most was Igor's unique drum sound. Especially when he is rolling on the high toms. They really stood out and were so different. Don't think I have ever read/heard anyone discuss this aspect. Highly suggest to go back and focus on it if you love drums like I do. That said, I am really digging this remake! One last thing, if they remake Beneath, I better hear Max yell "Mass Hippie Noses"!!! \m/
Totally agree about those high toms! They sound like nothing else I've ever heard. Tribal and primitive in a way that Roots never was. The real deal.
Dude! The bands name is still Cavalera Conspiracy! 🤘 Just check out the logo..Cavalera is written with that OG Sepultura font..but underneath clearly reads Conspiracy! Same with the Morbid Re-Recording!!
My only problem with the sound of the re recording is the heavy reverb to everything
As a massive fan of those early Sepultura records i am 100% loving these new renditions. Its great to have even more Cavalera to add to the collection.
I love the re-recorded albums
I haven’t stopped listening to each of them for over a month now the only tiny issue I had is that I wish the abyss on Schizophrenia was played like on the original….there’s nothing like when that ends and directly segue’s into rest in pain
My favorite album of Sepultura! I was listening to it when I was 7.
My only gripe is the lower vocal volume, everything else is great.
"Nightmares of Delirium" is not a leftover from 1987 but a new song written for the re recording.
It’s up there as one of the best re-recordings ever. Makes me nervous that they’ll try Beneath the Remains as well
I got it on vinyl and I love it!
For sure a big improvement overall but those old Max vocals were pretty f'ing sweet.
They absolutely killed it, again! "Bestial devastation" and "Morbid visions" were already amazing, now with "Schizophrenia" it's a perfect trio. Let's not forget also about beautifully re-made cover artworks. Hands down!
No way man, Schizo has always been above Beneath, Arise,…. for me. I listened to that album a million times and everytime i heard something new. Those tribal drums on the background!!!!!!! At the end, i didn’t have to do much effort to “get” (or understand) the album. Only for the true maniacs!
I really hope that kreator does this with their first albums
Два дня втыкаю в перезапись! Круто!
Sepultura - cool! Cavalera - cool!
Творческих успехов, здоровья, удачи, всех благ! Ждём ваших шедевров! ✌️🤘
Quick question love to hear sometime how you all started banger media. Also I think early sepultura doesn’t get enough respect for how much those albums did for early death metal. Mike
Looking forward to getting my LP version of this. But will they re-release Beneath the Remains? I really don't think they should.
Schizo is the fundation for beneath and arise, so many elements within
Awesome
I'll like to know if this is going to be the last of the re-recordings of the classic sepultura albums. The next three albums, Beneath the remains, Arise and Chaos AD where my favorite sepultura albums but damn, this re-recordings have done wonders and made me re-think my ranking. I imagine they will redo Beath the remains as it's their most legendary album, but... honestly, I would love to heard them go all the way to Chaos AD.
In his interview with Nate Garrett, Max said that Schizophrenia would be the last one of the re-recordings. They are still satisfied with the production of Beneath..., Arise and the others and want to work on new music again.
Nightmares wasn't left off the original. It wasn't written until now 😅 each of the rerecords contain a brand new song written in the style of the records original release. That's what I find the coolest! I don't want them to rerecord BTR or Arise, but I'd love to hear two new songs written in each style!
Playing the Bass of Doom, that is nice:)
I m Brazilian. Sepultura is fantastic. Cavalera Conspiracy too. Brilliant album Schizophrenia !! Beastial Devastition too.
'Schizophrenia" was a constant in my Walkman when I was a kid. This re-recording is absolutely killer, but, for me, the original will always be superior. 🤘
Andreas back on the scene , new Sepultura retiring. I think something big is coming!
You should check out Sonivinos. Some sweet ass tech death, with a tinge of melodic for some reason. Made by members of Henker, and Brain Drill.
Boom!!!!
At first I tought they would re-record The Abyss, but they came up with a complete different song, Abismo, just to piss Andreas off 😂😂😂
They original schizophrenia is fantastic. My favourite. Still on regular rotation
Love the re-recording. But wtf happened to The Abyss? Abismo!! it’s abysmal…
Andreas Kisser is the real Sepultura. But no one is ready for that conversation.
I freakin LOVE the re-record. I just wish they re-recorded the complete song The Abyss. Love that song
The real Sepultura sound from the real Sepultura members
one can only dream if they will follow up with Beneath the Remains
On a purely artistic level something about this project reminds me of Lucas bringing CGI into the original Star Wars in the 90s. Of course it’s a great record but I think I’ll probably just stick with the original?
yes sir
I’m pretty sure it was going to be good but my heart will always love the original, FYI still haven’t bothered to listen to the re-recorded version
One of the best thrash albums of all time. \m/
I can agree that it sounds good but i don't think it was needed. I hope they will not touch any further material of Sepultura. Now it is time to write a new album and show what they go for.
I wish they continue till quadra
Yay, cause he did the other one too
SAM!!!!!!!
It’s… great… you… like… this…. Album. 🤘
Leaps ahead of Morbid, I love this record.
awesome review
great album, Andreas should be proud of his work being re-recorded. His work on this record is the reason why it is so good.
SEPTIC SCHIZOOOOOO
I had the original, I bought it when I was in highschool
*_Well, if you make the rules, you can break the rules._*
*_This goes for the Cavalera's as well as BangerTV._*
*_I predict in the near future the ratings scale will be blown out of the church by Blayne; when he gives his first score of 6.66 Burning Stav Churches._*
Edit: Because I can't type well this early.
I like they stayed close to the original with this one. More modernisation with this one would kill it. I was disappointed on Morbid, how Show Me The Wrath was so different from the original….
Schizophrenia is a beautiful masterpiece!
For someone who has not heard the original record, would you recommend listening to this first over the original?
If u listen to this first then there's no need to listen to the original.
We need more Sam on Banger. We need more voices in general. Of late we've been getting a lot of one voice, and that one is problematic.
I do not see it as giving it a new life: It's only to cater to an audience lured into thinking they got back to their roots. Of course the execution is better as they're 30+ years older than when it was recorded. It's all about releasing a new product to remain on tour, get back some royalties direct into their pockets and giving to the current trends of revisiting the past which, obviously, was more glorious than the present for most of those artists.
Huh wasn't this rerecording released last year???
The harmony on RIP is *not* there on the original... The riff itself also has a slightly different feel.
Schizophrenia is my favorite Sepultura album
Fucking yes!!
Max hoje vive de passado e infelizmente o que faz com o Soulfly ficou a deriva - minha opinião.
i thought it was a well done record. a little over the top on the vocal reverb though. also, the last track sounds a bit more like a soulfly track not a sep track. maybe they dropped the tuning on it ?
