- Hi Cruisers, It's day 4, and our first port day on this awesome Alaska cruise. Be sure to visit our wonderful sponsor, CruiseLine.com: cruiseline.com?
Today we are in Ketchikan Alaska, and we've got an action packed day ahead of us. A really big thank you goes out to Spirit of Alaska Tours for their help with the planning of this excursion. We planned to go zip lining at Herring Cove, but as you'll see in the video, things did not go as planned. After zip lining we planned a bear watching tour. The bear watching was phenomenal! We all enjoyed this bear watching excursion. Ketchikan is definitely bear country. Our visit to the Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary included more that just bear watching. There is a really cool workshop where you can see totem poles being carved. There is also a Raptor center where they rescue animals like bald eagles, hawks, and owls. There is also a nice shop for souvenirs and hot chocolate. After our terrific excursion we drop by Annabelle's, one of Ketchikan's famed restaurants. Annabelle's famous Keg & Chowder House was recommended by our van driver as a great place to eat. You'll get a peek and some of the food we got at Annabelle's in this video. After our lunch we are back on the Grand Princess for sail away, and my son and I grabbed the absolute best spot in the house. It was a terrific day for us. Be sure to check back to see our Juneau excursions, (our Juneau day is going to be crazy!), Skagway Alaska excursions, and of course Tea Time in Victoria.
Seeing more bears than I saw in yellowstone (1)! Your hubby must be a professional photographer. Very good job!
What an awesome video!! 💕 Thank you for sharing your adventure, Sherri!!
My family is doing this exact cruise in one month. I am so excited and tour videos have made me even more excited and helped me find some great places to stop on shore. Thanks!!
Love love that you include the whole family when you can in the videos. Great job. When we were there in June it rained,
Your son should always do the "drink of the day." So cute.
Haha, totally!
Should definitely have your son do some more drink's of the day, of course ones suitable for kids. It's funny and cute with him imitating his mom like that.
Thank you!! He's getting more involved for sure!
Great video, once again we have to say that we love the "kid cam" as it sure adds the true family feel. Great to see you were able to see the bears up close, I was lucky enough to grow up seeing them a lot at my parents cottage in northern Ontario, they are quite spectacular animals.
Wow the footage of the bears was amazing Xx
Amazing! Great job on all the fun.
I love that they call that excursion a bear trail now. When we went in 2015 it was called a nature walk, but we saw several bears to our surprise! Ah so many good memories, I really want to go back for another princess cruise there!
Ketchikan looks beautiful! you're videos of the bears are great!
Such an amazing vlog! I've been waiting for this one since you mentioned your son caught video of a bear eating a fish right below! So amazing!!!!!!! Can't wait for my kids to get home to show them!
So beautiful!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for the times you mention when restrooms are available. It is so very helpful. We travel with 2 young ones and that can be the deciding factor on which tour we book. We plan to visit Alaska in the coming year with them. Thank you for all of your detailed mom info!
Our pleasure! It's very important to us too! Hugs!
Very cool you got to see bear eating fish! It poured rain when we were there on our cruise so its nice to see the area in the sunshine!
what an awesome day! such a beautiful place.. thanks for sharing it with us! ☺
Our pleasure!
ok...your little guy is adorable! 'drink of the day' :)
I'm loving watching your Alaska Cruise vlogs, and this one was especially cool. Loved the baby bear with the fish. Lots of great ideas an inspiration for my own cruise vlog which I'll be shooting next month on the Carnival Legend.
Have a great time on Legend and thanks for watching!
so excited for you too.. love to go there..long way from austalia though :) one day, hopefully. enjoy oh and the shot of the bears was the best you guys xx thx for that :)
Man this brings back so many memories. I absolutely loved this place. Holds a special place in my heart as my daughter began her little life in Ketchikan. Better known as conceived ;). Or it could have been Juneau! Lol....thanks so much for bringing us these vids....the next best thing when we are not on a cruise!
Haha! That's classic! Thanks for sharing ;-)
I’m definitely going to check out that tour company on my Alaskan cruise next August.
Wow, you saw bears. Uber jealous.
I can't get over how beautiful that is. We just booked for July 2025 and I'm researching excursions now. This is very helpful.
It's a very special place! You might try plugging your cruise into the shore ex group website to see if they have this tour on sale. Here's our affiliate link for that, if interested: www.shoreexcursionsgroup.com/?id=1369368
Thank you! What date and time was your bear tour please. I booked for Sep 12-3p #loveboatcruising
That bear footage melts my heart. I'd love to just go cuddle him. You were so close! That was amazing footage! They're so innocent when people aren't trying to hurt them/invade their space. As are most animals. Too bad all humans couldn't respect that.
Lol I live in Vancouver with a lot of mountains so I've seen a few bears as well when I've gone up the mountains. One time we were walking back to our car and there was a bear walking literally on the main street .
Bears are so cute. Crazy how vicious they can be. 🐻
This Vlog was awesome. Great Job Mr. Cruise tips T.V. putting in all together. Loved it, great videos of the bears. And your son made me laugh with his input. I needed a good laugh. As you know I live in Las Vegas and my son's dear friend was killed in the massacre. He was so young and had some much life to live. This is just awful. Anyway thanks for cheering up my day. I really needed it and thanks for all of your great vlogs.
Hi Sue. So good to have you on our live stream yesterday. Sending you and your son warm hugs and comfort.
Great day of outdoors and family time! That flora dora drink reminds me of my favourite French martini- vodka chambord and pineapple juice- you'd like it!
oooh, I would!
Reminds me of the Yukon. I worked in Whitehorse for a summer in 2011. Went to Skagway for a few days while I was there. Yukon/Alaska is a hidden gem. I miss it. I want to go back.. maybe a 2020 cruise... got my 2018 and 2019 trips booked.
What an amazing experience Justine! You're making me want to go too!
An awesome video. I live in Australia and would love to visit Alaska one day.
Love Kid Cam!
Been to Ketchikan 3 Times. Rained the first 2 times but last year, it was nice and sunny. For some reason, we never took any tours or excursions here. But we did go to the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center. Was very educational. Ate at the Alaska Fish House. Was okay, just wanted to try some King Crab. Was a little pricey. Lots of nice little shops.
I think Ketchikan is one of the few places I'd say you're totally safe to walk around and not book anything at all! Glad you enjoyed it. Our food was just okay too.
I can’t believe I missed this vlog! It was incredible as always!! I’m so glad you had nice weather! When I was there (a week before you) it was pouring! Never been more soaked in my life! Lol
The bear footage is truly incredible! Wow!!
I love your son’s jacket!
Thanks for bringing us along on another fun adventure!
+Scott Singer Cruises the weather is so hit and miss! Thanks pal!
AWESOME!!! I so had a good time watching your excursion today! I loved the bears! Your son did a good job on his coverage! I just want to know how many people like myself when watching it and first saw the bears said out loud "Bears!" lol So very cool! Sorry y'all didn't get to go zip-lining but still what a wonderful day! Totem pole carving was cool! I am SO BOOKING Alaska after Thanksgiving! Thank y'all SO MUCH for taking us along! BIG HUGS!!!!
BEARS! Big hugs back. Yah, we got pretty lucky that day!
I don't know if this was shot with a new camera or a new lens, but the footage is gorgeous. Even the part when you were standing on deck in your robe after sail away looked breathtaking. I know investing in tech for the channel can be rather costly, but it's really paying off. The photo quality is excellent.
OMG! BEARS!!! **swoon**
We've been to Ketchikan 3 times. It's been anywhere from 75 to 82 degrees.
I know, crazy huh! We've had warm days there mostly and one bitter cold one.
Next August, we taking a family cruise on the Emerald Princess with my in-laws and my mother. I'm taking copious notes while watching your vlogs.
Sounds wonderful Sean! We saw Emerald in Ketchikan- she's a beauty.
Ketchikan was fantastic!! Kid cam - even better!! Did you know that many of the shore tour guides in Alaska are college students from the lower 48?? They get hired thru the tour companies (or cruise lines) & spend the whole summer in Alaska - sometimes 10 living in the same apartment/house!! What a great way for a college student to spend the summer!! I did a Misty Fjords boat tour - and saw those trees growing on the sides of mountains in the very shallow soil!! Amazing!! Have you ever gone to the Lumberjack show?? A favorite of mine!!
Hubby jr. definitely might be the next full-time vlogger in your family!!
I've never done the lumberjack show! I want to someday!
I'm starting to really look forward to our Alaska cruise! We're starting to eyeball a Perth, Australia to Auckland, NZ cruise. Start building those Delta miles so that we can fly for "free".
That's awesome- we'd love to get over there too. I bet that would be a terrific voyage. Your Alaska cruise is creeping up!
Love your video. What is the name of the place that you went for bear viewing excursion?
My hubby and I really want to do this !! Was it ship excursion or a private one Sheri and any chance you can share the pricing with us?? Looks AMAZING!! Thx!!!
I think not being able to zipline would have ruined my day. Y'all handled it like champs, very nice.
Thank you- we always expect change.
Loved it! How much was the bear tour??
Ok. So now we really have to go to Alaska. 2019 can't come soon enough!!!!
Did you make it? Alaska season ends in mid September!! Hurry!!
I can see your husband in your mirrored sunglasses! Yay!
+James Bolger :-)
I thought you said this was a 10 day cruise?? Where are the rest of the vlogs???
I've only watched 7 days??
Please upload the rest of it!!
Sooo looking forward to it!
Plan on a Alaskan Cruise in June 2018!
Can't wait 😊! I want to see the rest of the vlogs!!!
We're working on it. We had a cruise recently and Vlogtoberfest really set us back on editing. More soon.
7:29 Was that you?? 😂
Did you go to any shows?
After watching this vlog you have now made me seriously think about adding the Alaskan leg to our NCL Jewel cruise in 2018. A shame you didnt get to do the zip lining, little Mr Cruisetipstv must of been devastated?
+bishy960 I think you’d love it. Alaska is just unlike any other type of cruise. Yes...re: zip line, he was, and more than anything, he was embarrassed- but life is full of those little Let downs. Thankfully he was able to zip line in Puerto Vallarta so he has a good frame of reference. I still feel kind of bad for the little guy
That was fantastic. Thank you so much. I’m getting so much info for my trip on the Bliss. Who did you book your Juneau excursion through?
Hey Nadia! Here's a link to the exact tour. It is a really fun day with a terrific crew. Can't wait to show you that vlog! www.bestofalaskatravel.com/alaska_day_tours/pages/j_best_of_juneau.htm
CruiseTipsTV can’t wait to see it! Thanks for the link.
Looks like so much fun! I’m starting to think more about an Alaskan cruise next! What kinda of camera did you guys use for the footage of the bears? Amazing quality.
Hey! Several! I'll answer on a vlog soon.
Sorry your little man couldn't do the zip-lining. It is so much fun. I hope he grows enough to do it soon.
Thank you! He really enjoyed doing it in Puerto Vallarta.
What a beautifully shot video, sorry little man could not zip line. What was the tour company again.
Spirit of Alaska Tours, but more specifically, this was the Alaska Rain forest Sanctuary.
Just wondering what month this was filmed? Would like to go see the bears there but worried we won’t see any as we will be there mid June. Thanks for everything you do 🙏 ❤️
Wondering the same thing!
Also, did you go with a cruise tour or your own arrangement hike to see the bears?
What month were you in Ketchikan? Beautiful weather and so many bears 🐻 😍
This was very late August!
Sheri what time of year was this
great videogrohpy mr cruisetipstv
Me and my wife is trying to book a trip now. We are trying to find out what trip would have alot of land animals. We have a cattle and horse ranch. We are not much on water we live in south east Louisiana so we see plenty water. What ship and 7 day trip you recommend to see animals ?
Alaska is known for wildlife sighting but it’s never guaranteed.
Gives meaning to "wild caught Alaskan salmon" lol
EXACTLY!! Haha! I'm not sure the bear left us much ;-)
Hi was this the bear focused tour or the combination one with the Raptor Centre? I'm so disappointed I just realized we will be 3 days to early to do the bear Boardwalk tour and even though we aren't going until July 2020 it's too late to change cruise as then we would miss out on connecting deluxe cabins. So now my choices are the combination tour or a bear specific float plane trip for a viewing platform.
I think it was the combination but I don’t recall-
I would do the float plane!!
CruiseTipsTV thanks Sherry! I appreciate the reply. I will have a look into the float plane trip but failing that will go for the combination tour. It's going to be a balance of what viewing platforms are open that week via plane, how far a hike and the budget. But the Alaska Rainforest sanctuary looks like fun and even if you don't see bears then still looks worthwhile. My compliments to Mr Cruise Tips TV's filming!
Exactly how close were the bears?
At the closest point, maybe 5-10 feet, but usually, a good 15 feet to 100 yards. Lots of variance.
Hello. I am taking and setting up a 16 day cruise on the NCL Jewel around Australia and New Zealand in January of 2018. This is my first cruise and I am 21, I am going with my boyfriend. I am very overwhelmed with how much there is to schedule and budget, so if anyone has any tips I would love to talk to them and get some advice. Thanks much.
Hey there! Try not to worry too much. The main things you will need to budget for are tips (not sure if your cruiseline requires them in Aus), drinking, shore excursions and the rest is very much optional! Let me know if you have any more specific questions.
Ate at Annabelles too.
Since your son was underweight to do the zipline, would your excursion refund you?
We hadn't paid yet, so it wasn't an issue thankfully. I was relieved about that.
I don't get it what is this😁😀😃😄😋😁😀😄😅😋
#cruisetipstv 🛳
Cool vlog! :)
Gave you a like
I have vlogs too if you're interested! :)
They let your son go to the indoor pool? I was told by Princess that it was adults only! I hope yours is right!
Yes, I’ve never known those pools to be adults only
CruiseTipsTV yay for hope!!
