- Time once again for a bit of a service on the motorhome. This time I’m switching to mineral oil and changing the fuel filter on the 2.5D engine.

I've taken a bit of criticism on the use of mineral oil in this video. I decided to try mineral oil following numerous recommendations however further research indicates that the original oil these engines were designed for was a 10w40 semi synthetic so next time I may go for that 🤔
Yes that was back then.
You're present oil choice is spot on especially for the viscosity. 🚑
I'm going to try the same mineral oil you used mate.
When you changed the fuel filter how long did it take to prime? Cant seem to get any resistance on mine.cheers.
@@74quo I've gone back to semi synthetic now as I'm pretty sure the van came with semi synth in from new. I don't recall priming being particularly difficult but I have heard of the priming button failing on some.
@@ttxela i would suggest finding the one with high zddp content in it and preferably not SN/SM standard as our engines need a lot of zddp to run properly ;)
Also agree with your comment about the garage.
A Good old driveway service 👍 like the good old days 👍
Best regards Louie and his two poo pickers 👍🍟😀🐾🍺❤️
Yes, we're still stuck in the good old days here thank goodness 🙂
Good to see you support bret 👍
Well, unexpected vehicle repairs are a pig, been there a few times!
@@ttxela yeah know what you mean old chap .
Many thank,s! You`ve helped me alot! Leif from Sweden
Glad it helped 🙂
yes need to do mine ! and yes i use mineral oil . although i get the garage to do mine with mot.. cheers
Great how to, thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
another useful video, I need to replace the whole housing on mine as it has air leak (broke down twice in Peak District this week, video to follow soon). AA man said the diaphragm in housing where you prime it had gone. I'm becoming more confident in my DIY mechanic skills with every job I attempt. Looking at my housing it seems identical to yours. Will film my struggles as alway.
Glad if it helped, will be interested to see how you get on 🙂👍
Hi, Great vid, I use Mann filters and they come with the rubber seals for the fuel filter including the small top screw grommet.
Worth knowing 👍
You can get Fuchs full synthetic Titan 5W40 on ebay delivered for the price of mineral - my 2.5D Peugeot loves it
Interesting, don't know anyone else using full synthetic 🤔
@@ttxela I can recommend it especially with winter closing - It seems a little more viscous than other brands of 5W40 - I reasoned that with crank case piston spray Jets the additional high temperature stability is a +
@@trevortrevortsr2 I guess that makes sense 👍
Sorry last message didn't make sense ment to say when you have changed filter fill with injection cleaner before starting the engine 👍
I knew what you meant 🙂 sounds like a good plan, I'll make sure I have some around next time 👍
@@ttxela hi Alex your van is a non turbo I think?
If so the pump timing falls out to retarded. Might be an idea to have it checked when they do the mot?
Chas.
Could be why lack of power.
I have just changed my fuel filter and can't get any fuel out of the filter bleed screw on the filter housing, trapped with air I guess? There is no way of priming the filter before fitting other than that bottom chamber?
A bit of diesel in the bottom bowl before you reassemble is usually sufficient. It does sometimes take a while to draw through. It's possible that the diaphragm on the pump has failed perhaps?
Hi Alex, Amother great video mine is spin on easy change. What M.P.G do you get roughly thanks John.
Hello John, I've never bothered to work out the mpg on ours but it doesn't seem excessive. I'd guess at about 40 🤔
He is this a change of fuel filter or oil filter? Thx for clarification 🙏
Both were changed in this video 🙂
I've switched to full synthetic Amsoil ZRod and engine is much much more nicer running ;) and no, no leaks :) i'd rather rebuild the engine than kill it with dino oil...
I've switched back to semi synthetic now, I believe that's what Citroen supplied the van with in it. Is yours the 2.5d?
“Mankiness” try to tone down the technical stuff please hahahahaha
Ah, perhaps I should have more accurately referred to it as 'gunge' 🤔
