I always thought those linear motor CD players were cool with how rapidly they respond to track changes.

Nice all around player. I also like how the board is organized and labelled for each section's function. Good to see this one will continue living on!

Nice straight forward repair . I’m sure I would take longer .
Always thought swing arm pick ups were quicker but this is really fast .

Well, there's a good piece of gear saved from the landfill by a simple (well, fairly simple) belt replacement. Love those old Technics decks! I've had several of them. They always seem to have very nice, warm sound without harshness, maybe due to the Burr-Brown DAC? I have a much later Onkyo C-7030 that also has a Burr-Brown DAC and also has *excellent* sound. As of a few years ago, the 7030 was still being made but no more Burr-Brown.

Actually the Burr Brown PCM54 DAC is not really sought after, it's an earlier version of their classic PCM56 which is a run-of-the-mill 16 bit DAC of the 80's'. More sought after DAC's are the PCM58 and the PCM6x series released in the 90's. I had to fix two similar CD players some time ago, and while they were overall working, one was struggling with CD-R due to a weak laser. Spares are impossible to find, so if the laser dies, good luck finding another player to harvest parts from.

I have a SLP-300 that has a foam ring on top of the disk arm clamp that is crumbling. Is it necessary to have that foam or can I remove it?

Just curious...do you know much about or have any info on an Arken Reel to Reel Player/ Recorder Tube system? It is a lovely vintage system. Mine is missing the model plate info. Im not finding much on this item.

That's unusual, check for a disk before reading Toc
Technics have made the odd bad deck, but not that one :-D

The first cd player I bought works great, but it sometimes takes up to a couple of minutes to read a disc when I hit play. Once it plays, everything is fine. Any ideas?

There might be a handful of reasons, such as dried up lubricant on the pickup transport (or dirt accumulation towards the spindle), optical or mechanical or electronic misalignment, or even Difficult-to-read recordable media, if used. If the disc does not skip at all during playback, the laser diode might actually be fine.

@@richardsmith2721 could be weak laser, spindle motor, alignment, dust / dirt.
The fact that it eventually reads would have me looking at spindle motor first but really you need to get a scope on it and look at the waveform

I wish i had a penny for every loading belt that i have changed over the years.
Any player that uses belts will need new ones sooner or later.
Finding good quality drives belts these days is getting harder than it used to be.
The thin flimsy ones are useless as loading belts.

There’s a transit button underneath, if it’s pushed in (for safe movement), the tray won’t open. Pull it out and you should be good to go.
Really hope this helps but it’s only one possible reason!
