- First start up after saving it from a scrap yard by mere days before going in the crusher. Built in 1991. Largest air cooled Diesel made by Deutz. This is the rare high output version that includes charge air coolers. Video filmed in New Holland Pennsylvania.

I am so glad you were able to save this magnificent piece of equipment.
Magnificent engine. The V8 413 variation were extensively used in Argentina and Chile during the seventies on interstate buses. Great engines with a wonderful unmistakably unique sound.
Also V10 in Arbus chassis until 1994
A great save! Thank you for sharing this with us. One of the greatest engines ever built. Please update us again, when you get the charge air coolers installed.
Steve Kluver I posted a second video with full throttle run with CAC
Thank you much! I'll go give it a look.
What are your plans for this engine? A new back-up or replacement, for the Dady Rat?
Steve Kluver We are definitely dropping this BF12L 513C into the Dady Rat and adding a second pair of LARGE turbochargers to feed into the standard pair. Yes indeed! The rat rod with quads!
Very nice.
You will be smiling so much, you'll have face cramps!
: - )
You get that done, and I'm going to fly out the 1050 miles, and have you take me for a ride.
I know of a mine that's got an old Wagner LHD parked since the mine shut down around 2013...the machine has a V10 air-cooled Deutz. I want it.
The.Legend.
She's responsive .nice motor 🇮🇪
Motor alemão e incomparável. Imagine a força desse motor.
👍
Defiantly as German motor, no shaking, no grinding, just a smooth sound similar to the newest robotic electric motors
It is much quieter than I'd expect from a Diesel ESPECIALLY an air cooled Diesel! I'd be worried about warping cylinder liners and overheating under constant heavy load with a large air cooled Diesel. I thought those radiators were oil coolers at first thanks for explaining they are air-to-air intake air coolers.
Deutz, the oldest engine manufacturer on earth. Purrs like a kitten.
Hi. How can I communicate with you?
About 480 hp without intercoolers, 520 hp with intercoolers.
Thats a twin turbo rating. This is modified with 4 turbo.
@@DadyRat The factory rating is 384 hp, normally aspirated, and various powers with twin turbos, without intercooling: 420, 450 or 480 hp. With intercooling, it is rated at 525 metric hp (518 imperial hp). That is the maximum factory rating. In theis video, the engine is fitted with just the normal two turbochargers. It is, of course, possible to fit more powerful or sequential turbos to generate more power. These engines are however air-cooled and it is not possible, or at least not simple, to expand the cooling capacity significantly. If the engine is substantailly uprated and it is used in a situation where sustained high power is required, over-heating and failure is a real possibilty, especially in hot ambient conditions.

Each cylinder bank has it's own turbo
