This is awesome. I have nerve damage in my left arm which makes intense Boss battles tough as my pinky and ring finger barely function and cramp up in long duration battles. Tips like this let an older person like myself still enjoy all of the other less intense parts of the game. Smelted my first bits of bronze today and it was very rewarding. Thanks again for thinking of those dealing with physical challenges!
I fought the elder yesterday. HERE IS A TIP FOR EVERYONE : Scout the area before starting the fight to make sure trolls won't join the party.

I have a troll and a spawner, not to mention he summons shamans!
We had three shaman show up at night and considerably lengthen the fight.
Definitely, I got swarmed with trolls and Grey's and they destroyed my mini portal base
watched a lot of your videos, but you earned my subscription when you acknowledged disabled gamers and the difficulties we can face.
This is a super creative method for anyone that can't beat him. Especially for solo players
I spent about half an hour just dodging around the pillars shooting him with a bow.
Until my bow broke, I then resorted to hitting him through the pillars with the stag breaker the AOE travels through the pillars but so does his stomp and it has mad damage if your not careful

I was just about to handle this boss. The timing on this was perfect.
It is possible that the devs might be aware of some of these Ai breaking strats so I would recommend that people who are playing right now take advantage of this. I would not be surprised if in some future patch the devs rework the AI pathing to correct some of these things. After reading the roadmap for the game, I am looking forward to future content for this game. Great video, thanks man.
in your vid you talked about skill levels and disability's in players. you just earned yourself a sub for being just an all round cool guy. (i have a friend who loves gaming but due to the way one of his hands is he cant do everything)
I actually find the elder is much easier to fight in melee than using a bow. The Elder only throws the ranged attack when you are far away and their melee attacks is super slow and easy to dodge. If you hide behind a pillar the elder will come to you so anytime they root where you are fighting just go to a different pillar.

I wish I had done that! I summoned him, turned around and TROLL. Stood no chance against both of them... died very quick! Now im screwed... Great vid!
Recently started playing Valheim and when it came to the elder fight did it solo. Half way through the fight I died and had to run back to collect my stuff but as I returned to the area the elder was waiting and chaed me out into a meadows biome where I used an oak tree as cover. The elders ranged attack couldn't break the tree so I was relatively safe, when he moved closer I ran to meet him, he froze with the branch from the oak tree blocking his movements I was literally able to ounch the elder to death.
Doesn't work anymore, just tried it and now his AI doesn't break and he comes stand on the platform right above you and stomps which does reach down and hit you, even if you put fires up there he breaks them with his stomp.

I realized another way to do it, have the stagbreaker because of its AOE damage. Dig yourself under the altar so you just fit under the altar. Not just under the edge like here but dig deeper in so you basically in the middle of the altar. Start the fight and then just stand under him and attack with the stagbreaker, he wont do anything and cant damage you and just keep swinging the stagbreaker.
Dig a narrow trench around the entire altar before summoning, if you are lucky he spawns in them and gets completely stuck due to his massive size.
If a entity clips into a surface they cannot move, try putting a bed under a cliff or prop and if you use it and get up you get stuck in the same manner.
Farmed the first boss with my friend last night, this game is so much fun!
i actually did something similar except i dug a larger portion out from under the altar and set up a FOB with a portal so i could escape quickly, but i also dug a trench which the elder will get stuck in if he walks into it, made it a cake walk.
when i fought against him all i did was shoot my arrows and scream like a maniac trying to avoid his vegetarian tentacles

This is patched... it seems he now stomps the ground if he sees you underneath him.

Just found a new biome - (in german it's called the Ebene) kind of a plateau. And o boy, this is where it get's real taff. But the most anoying things are the killer insects. I think they are way overpowered.

Would it help prevent vines from spawning in your hole if you put in a floor and walls?
Hole method worked out for me but not as intended. He just spawned in that hole and stamped on me few times before I could escape. Then he couldn't move so I just shot him on safe distance until he died. Anyway thx for vid
Ummm there’s an easier way, use a bronze shield and sword both lvl 3. Hold shield up wait for stomp (make sure you’re not under him). Block stomp then take 3 swipes. Rinse and repeat if you run out of stamina hide behind a pillar. I used no arrows and it was easy

To find his altar easier look in burial crypts in the dark forest. Most of them have the stone that locates the elder in them.
I gave this dude a whirl not knowing anything....he wrekt me...
The 2 handed polearm is a great aoe weapon than the stag breaker in less stamina consumed and faster usage. It's very horizontal and cant hit above or below waist levels though.
Most mobs have a ai shutdown if they can't get pathfinding to you.
The only biggest problem are flying mobs, but once you get to that level the issue mainly is due to their numbers and mobility.
My elder shrine is next to the ocean on the beach.. so i cant dig under it cause i hit water right as i see the edge
there was water under mine which made me swim. I didn't even dig deep enough under the platform before I was swimming

What are the huge tall 5 monolith stones in a circle?
I know the 12 in a circle (thereabouts) is a grave with treasure.
As are the 3 small stones in a circle with a square rock on top of the center.
But what the heck are the 5 tall huge monolith ones?
I dug them out, nothing.
And my pickaxe does no damage, nothing I have does damage.
Any insight?
Sounds like metal when I hit it, pickaxe is lvl 1.
Everything else is lvl 3.
No clue, but they have to have a purpose of some kind?

5:18 Try running (with shift) at the wall of the hole and then spam the jump, most of the time you should be able to scale the wall like that. It's fun to do when you've mined out a deep hole to get all that beautiful copper. Ladders? What's that?

I wonder if the stagbrakers aoe damage would hit him from down there.
This doesn't work anymore it's been patched- roots now spawn below altar level and the Boss AOE stomp also hits below ground level. It quickly becomes a self-trap.
*edit- Once Trolls join the fight and you're in the hidey-hole you're toast. Just do it standard with fire arrows.
I spent hours constructing a pillar to pillar tree house blind...I was just going to run around the circles as he walked around the alter (he didn't walk around the alter)...he just stayed a bit away and so I shot him with fire arrows....his biggest threat was his little finger tree root move...I also watched someone's video and plopped down some campfires.....but according to other commenters, that makes me a horrible cheater because I didn't do it the "right" way. sorry to those commenters that I play solo and try to use exploits to my advantage.
I sailed way across the ocean far to find the elder location and just cruising down the coast slowly to the new island the Trader location popped up on the map 🥳. He also wasn’t too far from The Elder also. Funny thing is The Elder Boss is right next to the SWAMP 😢.
Same for me, trader and Elder are not far apart where an island narrows, when it start narrowing, very nearby it turns into swamp, when to have a look and leeches were chasing me :).
Just tried it, doesn’t work, roots keep come up, front and back and he keeps stamping his foot down, he didn’t stay still.
my elder location was on the edge of the coast, and can't find another yet, the search continues. lol
The Elder Stone (Small Square) was located right at the border of Black Forest and The mountain biome for my world.
Still gonna wait a bit till I go after him , just now about to finally build me a furnace. Built a massive dock base in the Black Forest
so let's say there's a troll that wondered into my fight with the elder and I didn't dig a hole so now I have a troll and an elder that are both fighting me. what can I do about that?

Just lost all my stuff trying to battle him 💀 the grave is on the platform where you summon him... Pretty much resided to making all new stuff

What I did was stand behind the pillar so that he would have to move into range to attack me, but the fire was in the way in the center so he was just standing there near it and eventually burned to death in about 10 minutes without me doing anything

The first time I fought him I used the Trees as pillars for hiding... bad idea

LoL! This saves us so much time. But I just discovered using the bow is much more reliable than melee. Melee waste your time by risking you to find out how crippling it is to engage with some enemies.
I’m torn between being grateful for these videos and being fearful since the game is still early access and you never know what the devs might decide to “fix”...

Sprint/jump spam allows you to climb any pickaxe'd cliff edge
honestly theres so many spawners and during the black forest tier you should get more than enough ancient seeds to fight the boss, dont worry about breaking the spawners

put ladders around pillar and stood on top of the pillar. Bow and some melee weapon works
Tried this yesterday. He knocked me off the pillar with one of those spiderman-esque root webs he shoots (like at 6:15).
Fighting him for the first time. Everything you could think of went wrong.. Troll coming from the forest chasing me. A pack of dwarves with brutes and shamans. Died 10 times. Lol
I went to where my Elder boss spawned and it seems like the spawn is bugged. The rocks are floating in the air and his whole little area isnt even showing up. Ive heard theres multiple spots where you can summon a boss but everytime I go to a dungeon and find a rune or if I find a rune and use it to locate the boss it takes me to the same spot. I havent gone very far north so Im wondering If I go more north with the runes show me a different spot:? I could really use some help as I feel like my Valheim journey is on a mega halt until I figure this out. Any help please!!!!!!!

Aw thats rough man. Yeah unfortunately I'd say just make a boat, find a whole new landmass and try exploring around a black forest there. That'd be your best shot at finding a new spawner I'd imagine

Almost kileld him on first try, had around 60 fire arrows and 2 torches, sadly they weren't enough and I died using the last bit of my torch. Gotta try again I guess
Just found another cheese dig four holes at each side of altar deep enough that you can just barely stand in the water start fight and kit him into walking into the hole once he’s in run to trees and stay there dodge vines and shoot bow at him tell he just won’t do anything anymore breaks his AI because once you hit a certain ankle he don’t know what to do.
The big tablets do not mark Forsaken one altars. You need to find the smaller square-is ones with the red circular rune (I think it's, Vegvísir - did not take a good look at them). Just like the one you have at the original spawn location, where you also hang the trophies.
Also, his ranged attack, besides a good chunk of damage, also plants spores. He spawns the roots from those spores. So if he does not attack you while in the hole with the ranged attack, he does not have the seeds he needs for the roots :)
yea I was just using that tablet as an example. Do you think it was misleading?
@@Firespark81 a bit, for the people that did not pay attention to the tutorial at the begining. The raven tells you about the small tablet.
That tablet is found in most of the burial crypts in the dark forest btw
@@insanepenquinkiller5 and a few of them - although much rarer, can be found in the Black Forest, on the surface, usually next to one of the stone tower buildings. There will usually also be a barrel to break outside, a chest inside just below the stairs and a little stool that you can break to get a bit of fine wood. The tower will have a pack of dwarfs guarding, with a shaman and maybe a brute.
I found both of mine on the surface in the stone houses.
Gonna try this as have to kill him again, as while i got his head, i didn't get the key when I killed him :(
Have you noticed any patterns of where blueberries tend to spawn the most? Think I'm going to message the devs about adding a way to grow your own berries from seed.
They grow really well where mountains meet black forest if you have a mountain biome on/near your island. Found a ton of them on the border between the two
How did you get your Jump, Run and Swim to 100 so quickly?
he made a tutorial about it but you can also use the cheat mode.
Tried this cheesy method and unfortunately didnt work for me , he hit me even deep in that hole , through that platform , as he didnt even walk closer to that hole
Maybe the hole wasn't deep enough? I dug down pretty deep and tunneled under the platform for a quick get away to my portal (I kept running out of fire arrows). He couldn't hit me but once in a while a root would sprout or fall in my hole
I built earth pillars around the alter platform, like those cement pillars used to block cars from pedestrian areas, called bollards. That had him caged in and his projectiles can't pass through them so they provide cover. Fire arrows work nicely. When tentacles appear you can run around to another side. If you are worried about trolls, you can build another ring around the first Julius Caesar style to protect your rear. Takes a lot of stone to do all that though. I walked the area nearby and lured the trolls to the platform and killed them from the inside before doing the boss.
This would require going to the swamp and fighting Oozers, otherwise you can’t get the iron to build a stone cutter without first getting the swamp key, which yknow, you have to beat the Elder to get

I've farmed up a full bronze set before even attempting this guy but I made a new world so my base is closer to water and now I can't find a dungeon with the runestone in it lol
Found mine in the dark forest near the water, I just went down the coastline in a raft
Bow skill 45? How long did it take to get that? I tried this with Bow Skill at 25. I armored down from Bronze to Troll for this fight. I went through 100 burning arrows using the pillar technique but eventually died as I ran out of arrows. Came back in Bronze-armor and also spent more time winding up my bow shot behind pillars before move out and release. Made a big difference. Really had to nail those Bow shots with power. Would obviously be easier with Bow skill at 45.
The Elder doesn't have much more health than a 2 star troll. If you ever killed a 2 star troll, you should know how many arrows you'll need for him. Especially if you're using fire arrows (double damage to the Elder). I fought him completely unprepared with just a bow and about 100 fire arrows + normal arrows (which I always carry with me) and it was quite easy to defeat him at bow level below 40. Level 25 is certainly possible as well, just takes longer.
How long does it take to level bow skill to 45? Dunno either, but if you use it regularly to defeat enemies, it should work automatically with your normal world progression. If you go out of your way to not use the bow very often outside of hunting, you're gonna have a problem of course.

Im adamant to not use bows, and let me just say that without a bow this was incredibly difficult. I actually made a harpoon, but that didnt help very much except for pulling him towards me when he got to a spot I didn't want. The Stagbreaker proved semi-useful for destroying several roots near me at once, but I mainly ended up smacking his feet with my axe, rolling when he stomped, and then running to take cover whenever he used the roots or shoots. It took a long time, but it worked eventually :) (Also yes a troll showed up, luckily I could lure him away and the Elder didn't follow)
I played melee only today, wasn't a solo but my archer buddies kept dying lol :) The stomp range is pretty small.. I walked out of it instead of rolling (more time for stamina regen) - 2 hits between stomps. When he casts roots or shoots, run at his feet!! The shoots will miss over your head (don't run into them lol). Your biggest damage window is when he casts roots on somebody away from himself - I 1v1 the troll.. but he didn't have a tree.. I would say its a well rounded fight. You can bait his stomps without sprinting, making stamina regen (even without potions) really quite easy. Rank 3 banded shield can parry all his attacks, but blocking hurts. I wonder how this fight goes with 2 melee players.
You have it so easy, my elder has a spawner nearby (that I've managed to take out) a troll, and keeps summoning greydwarves, including shamans. I've died once, retried a few times, but never get him down below half before retreating. The best thing I did was make a bunch of campfires around him to begin with, then shoot, but he stamps them out.
Neither of your tactics are going to help me, unless he stops getting all the help.
I feel like all these boss fights look nothing like mine not only did a troll show up to my boss fight but 25 tree dudes. Crazy hard but no one else seems to have theses struggles
thats because most of us have the foresight to clear the area before summoning the boss =p

Hey guys, I'm running the game on a HP Pavilion 15-eh0090wm (Ryzen 5-4500U/8GB/512GB/FHD/W10), and I have my settings on the absolute lowest settings, both resolution and the graphics, do you know why that is? or if my system is just considered too weak? the ram is also upgradable so maybe if I went from 8 GB to 16 GB that would boost my FPS? let me know if anyone can help me run the game more smoothly
laptops are not good for gaming, and this game is very gpu intensive due to all the physics and lighting. You should consider saving up for a PC in the future
@@daisybunni Yep. I tried playing this on my laptop with an i7 and 1550TI while the power is out in Texas, and it's unplayable. Runs great on my PC with a 1660TI. I have 16GB ram, so upgrading your ram will do nothing.

The only runes that show where the boss is, are in dungeons in my experience
i found my rune in an abandoned stone structure. couldnt find any in the dungeons.
I found 2, one in a dungeon and one in a stone house in the black forest.

i have a base under the altar. NOTHING can't get to you there.
I think it is patched, his AI doesn't break when I try it and when in the hole he comes from behind on, from the stone platform instead of coming around the front from the ground. I even tried putting fires on the platform but he breaks them with stomp and then when he is on the edge looking down at you he stomp and it hits you.
Dunno maybe I am doing something wrong but he doesn't break and stop moving. Died twice bot times in the hole trying to get him to break so I just do it the normal way as it just seems easier.
just beat him in duos using the inverse... why trap yourself in a hole when you can trap him in a hole from where he spawns

how do you not have mobs? mobs was the hardest part of that fight
