  • On Banks of Tyne gives an historical account of the changes that have taken place to three neighbouring areas of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Battlefield octogenarians tell of their lives spent in the residential area around St. Ann's Church where a home-built television set entertained neighbours in 1933 and where internationally known artists James Alder, Joseph Crawhall and Prof. John Gilroy spent part of their lives.
Interesting tales of ordinary home life, shops, schools, play areas and the local cinema, along with authentic photographs present a lasting image of the period.
Ouseburn historian Mike Greatbach takes us on a tour of the once heavily industrialised valley where farm animals now roam and old buildings provide a stage where music, modern arts and crafts can be performed and exhibited.
Mike also leads us into the dark Victoria Tunnel before a final riverboat trip on the Ouseburn and River Tyne. The Quayside changes are well illustrated with archive film from 1927, the year that comedian Jack Douglas was
born in a nearby street. The Tall Ships are seen before we witness the opening of the Gateshead Millennium Bridge by H M The Queen, and
end our visit to the riverside with a New Year's Eve firework display.
