  • This video takes another look at Ouseburn and its amazing history. It's part II, so you'll need to watch the first one first as a suggestion.
In this video I look at the areas two tunnels and the part they played in the Second World War, as well as other establishments.
I look at the Cluny building and at the time of production I didn't realise that its regularly voted as one of the worlds top 100 bars!
I hope you enjoy the video and please consider leaving a tip to help with my ever increasing food and cafe bill as I put these videos together. Thank you in advance! The link is:-

I’ve only came across your channel a few days ago and I have to say Eddy you’re doing a great job!! I’m from Teesside and obviously have been to newscast a few times but you’ve opened up a whole new side of it to me.
Is it weird how you can walk past all these places and not give a second thought to the history.

I lived at a ground floor flat 18 Albion Row with my parents and went to Ouseburn Infants school. I was 4 in 1962 and was enrolled in the infants at Easter 1962. It must not have closed in 1960, or I may have been wrong and you mentioned shut in the 1960’s. Both sides of my family the Youngs (Byker Buildings) and Heads (Battlefield) used the culvert during ww2 air raids.

The culvert aka Cully... has an entrance right where you were standing that you can still access although it's been made a little more difficult. Theres a river directly beneath you and you can go inside the cults entrance and walk as far as Jesmond Dene. Used to do it quite often in the 90s and took my teen daughter through only 2 year ago. But its wet and full of holes and wouldn't recommend it to anyone without past experience as it's a little dangerous. Great video per usual.

Hi Jamie, as I can’t get to away games, doing reaction videos for them wasn’t working for me personally, as I prefer being videoing out ‘in the field’ so to speak and engaging with people.
Also, as I’m not a football gossip and rumour channel, I avoid the constant speculation videos. I’ll continue to do match Vlog videos and I’m looking forward to quizzing Everton fans and I’ll do other wider perspective videos on NUFC. For example I’ll be doing a video on Wednesday about our new signings and what life looks like for NUFC.
      Exciting times!

You should Hav mentioned the rave that happened in the cully a few years back and how well organised the kids were that put this event on. I understand the dangers and I’m not wanting to promote this type of activity but a mention about it wouldn’t been too naughty? 😊

Another bit of gruesome history about the pub over the road from the Cluny (can’t remember the name off the top of my head) But its directly underneath the bridge and the roof has been repaired several times…… You can draw your own conclusions as to what came though the roof.
