- In this video, I will talk about how you can become an EMT, and what certification and license you need to get before you can work on the field as an EMT.
I was an EMT on the field for a little bit more than 2 years, I had work 10, 12, 24, and 48 hours shift on the ambulance rig before. I trained and got my license through UCLA EMT program, and mainly work in the Los Angeles, California.
So what do you have to do in order to become an EMT? Watch the video and find out :)

This process honestly sucks but you explained it well. Thank you!
Thank you man 👍🏼
Hi, thank you for your video, it was very informative! From the end of your EMT program to being eligible to work how long did it take you to apply/receive the state/county certificates, ambulance DL certificate, etc.?
the ride-along took the longest cuz of the availability schedule, which affects the state/county certification. However, overall, 2 months. I did ride along in October, got certified card at end Nov. applied and hired in Jan, which then sent to DMV & city for more certification. Started working in Feb.
@Juan Paz both, it’s depend on ur partnership. Some will drive the first half and attend the latter half. I alternate between every patients
Hi there, im applying for the county and it is asking for my California Issued EMT Certification Number, do you know if thats the EMS ID or the Registry Number on my Certification from NREMT? THANK YOU
Hi thank you for the video. Can I ask u more question on Instagram?
So nice! Whats the usual assessments and training after you get hired?
It depends on the company, but usually you get partner up with a FTO (field training officer) and another EMT, a 3 people crew, for about a week or so. The FTO will walk you through how everything runs and you pretty much take turn running call btw the three people until you are ready to go on your own w/ a partner. The assessment usually done with the interview. Ex. lifting the gurney, carry some heavy stuffs, and simple EMT Q&A.
Will there be a graduation ceremony after u finished the program?
I'm a first aid instructor from Germany. How can I work in California?
Hi ,my small brother from Gulshan e hadeed bin Qasim malir karachi Sindh pakistan .my brother is emt and have also job in emergency medical service in karachi Sindh pakistan I can he apply .
When it comes to county EMT cert, can you hold more than one county certification or can you only hold one at a time? What if you want to work in more than one county at a time, is that possible? Thanks for the video and response!
Yes, you can hold more than 1 county certification. For example, you can hold both LA and OC county certification since those counties are next to each other. Some Ambulance companies require their employees to have both so they can run in both counties for more calls.

What is general pay for an emt in LA ?
when I was working years ago, $10.50 for 10 hrs shift & $9.50 for 24 hrs shift (company said it was lower cuz I get paid 1.5x after 8 hours). I think u probably see around $12-14/hour depending on the company
You go to emt school. Boom, done
Can you work as a EMT and still go to university for another career ?
yes. working as an EMT just requires a high school diploma and EMT certification stuffs. Ambulance companies don't care what you major or going to do later on for your career. I had worked with a few military people who worked as an EMT to get the experience before doing something else. One person did it for experience while studying for law school.
Hi, what if the program isn’t accredited?
It will affect your National Registry certification, and most states require accredited program. You have to do some research on NREMT and your EMT state website to check to see if they accept the non-accredited program.
What type of math do u need to know ❓❓
whats the dmv medical examiners certificate ??? do they make you drive the ambulance to see if you can drive It ??
It's just a simple physical check-up to clear u for driving an ambulance. I just did a quick walk-in at Urgent Care. They just check ur posture, any back or head injury that might affect your EMT driving job. Think annual physical check-up but for medical professionals. For DMV ambulance driver test, it's just multiple choices from the EMS handbook provided at the DMV (pretty simple & straightforward).
@@JohnPhamHealth THANK YOU !!!! YOU SO HELPFUL !!!!!!!
@@JohnPhamHealth did you work for American ambulance ??
@@franksanchez9355 what do u mean? like the company name American? cuz all ambulance companies in LA are all Americans... There's AMR ambulance which is big ambulance company. All my healthcare jobs are based in California following the states' policy
Can you link the program you did for EMT

Can you still become a EMT with a non violent crime felony that’s past 10 years?
It should be fine but some states might be more strict though, especially if it related to drug charges
I’m already nremt certified. How can I go through the process of getting license to practice in California?
You need to complete and paid for application with California emt (check CA EMT website) for your CA EMT license.
@@JohnPhamHealth thank you sir.
@@Nameness I'm close to $300 in just for applications so far and I'm not even done yet haha

You have to Deliver a baby?

@@JohnPhamHealth can you confidently deliver a baby? 😂
@@timetrialist then yes, now no lol
@@JohnPhamHealth dont tell AMR 😂
Which emt school did you go to?
UCLA Center for Prehospital Care since I did my undergrad at UCLA. I did 3 months intensive program where we have class every day from 8-5pm and passed final and skills before doing the ride-along.
Ok thank you very much do you know of any other schools in Los Angeles?
Im not in college so i would just like to go somewhere to take the class
for EMT program/class, you don't need to attend college or be a college student. It is usually a separate course designed for you to take, pass, get a license, and get a job. There are some colleges in LA that have accredited EMT programs that are cheaper than UCLA. Just make sure to double-check and see how the program will affect your job employment. I chose UCLA because it's well known and has great instructors, but a little expensive in comparison to other programs. For the UCLA EMT program, you just sign up as long as you meet all the requirements. Take the program, pass the tests, pass the final & skills, do your ride-along, and then get your license. No need to be a college student there. Another option is California Institute of Emergency Medical Training (CIEMT) program in Long Beach and Hawthorne. I did hear good things about them since other EMTs.
Edson Hernandez I suggest COC(College of the Canyons) they have a emt course that is a semester long and you don’t need a lot of stuff to sign up they have more information on their website 👍🏽
