Eric was the only player, besides Gordie Howe, that could fight the opposing team's toughest guy AND get highlight reel style goals at the same time. He didnt play alot of games because he played so hard when he was on the ice. Gretzky played 1400 games because he never hit anyone or fought anyone. Eric played 10x harder than Gretzky ever did.
No offense but he didn't play long because he kept his head down and also he went after people with cheap shots.
Gretzky on the other hand was not easy to hit in his prime. When he got older he was an easy target but by then no one wanted to kill him.
@@joekim2172 agreed except for going after people with cheap shots. His hits were hard and clean so we’re his fights. The last hit he took as a Flyers was a cheap shot. Dude threw his shoulder at Eric’s head, jaw. He was just so big and strong they appeared to b cheap shots because the layers he hit went to the ice a lot. I loved watching him play

Growing up, this man was my idol which made me a Flyers fan today. Seeing the legion of doom line back together brought back a lot of great memories which makes feel old lol All the best to Eric Lindros and his family, and thank you for playing you're heart out for the orange and the black. 1991 I'm at the office getting some things caught up. Worked in N. Camden. Was driving towards home and just glued to the radio...WIP 610 of course, and I'm getting close to 676 and then heard the announcement that we got Lindros. Man I was frigging pumped. They did not win a cup with him and his career was cut short by concussions. The Flyers probably mishandled the whole thing and his parents sure didn't help things but here's the thing about Lindros: You never, ever stopped watching the Flyers when he was on the ice. No player that I can ever recall could totally dominate in all facets of the game like Eric.
Man, he was fun to watch. I'd take some clients down to the Spectrum and it was even better in person. Thanks Eric!
My first flyers game.. I must'uv been about 8 years old, I was too little to really watch or understand hockey. After the game, we were walking through the spectrum after everyone left, and one of the staff members handed me a puck. It was pretty clean looking except for one big knick. He said it was the winning game goal puck scored by Eric Lindros. I still have it. Good memories.

For all that happened this dude really was electric whenever he was in the ice. I probably watched every shift he ever took as a flyer, many in person. He was something else. Management never did enough to give him the help he needed.
That last part is bullshit. Injuries hurt us a few seasons. We were potential Cup champions half of Eric's time in Philly. He has some of the top players in the league playing with him, like Mark Recchi, Dale Howerchuk, Jon Leclair... plus guys like Rod Brind'amour, Michel Dionne, and a whole cast of role players that did a great job during his time here. Then look at some of the defensemen he played with... Eric Desjardins, Paul Coffey, and so many others. We had some great teams. Eric just couldn't do what Clarke did and take the team, as Captain, over the top to a Cup win.

Never enough depth. They were like the ‘07 Senators. Maybe the best top line in hockey but not much behind it anywhere.

Always was a big fan of Lindros. Still, I find it a bit odd they retired the number of a guy who only suited up for 450 games. Nevertheless, he brought a lot of excitement to the ice and packed the stands with fans. Truly a unique talent, unlike anything before or since.
I think he was 5th or 6th points per game average of all time during those 400 odd games in orange.
Even more proof he was legit if u ask me, what impact he had during that time
It was a treat to watch you Eric. Didn't have nhl center ice back in the day so had to settle for 2 games against the Kings every season, or years you guys made the playoffs and espn would air them. Thanks for the memories.

He, without a doubt, was the most dominant, exciting, and impactful NHL player ever! Imagine what his career would have become, if not for the multiple cheap shot hits he received throughout his career, which resulted in multiple concussions!

Eric was the fucking men I watched this kid in the juniors most dominate player I ever seen if every player played like the big E am sure their careers would been short to. No one like or nor will we see the size the quickness the power and athletic ability like Eric had and let's not forget the best leading the league in scoring and could punch the fuck out off anybody in the league. Had he not gotten into the Hall of Fame, I don't think they would have retired his number. As a Pens fan im obligated to hate Philly, but I respect what he did on the ice. I think had he not had the concussion issues, he would have won a cup or 2, but i think the concussions were the hockey gods way of punishing him for what he did to Quebec

Sublime talent. The Lebron James of Hockey, before Lebron was out of diapers. Strong, fast, soft hands, talented, and hard nosed. YET, he was not a winner. He won nothing in Philly. He was the best of his generation, but was too often out of uniform and his career was maligned by too much intrigue, contract troubles and injuries. Hall of fame...Dubious. Retired jersey for all time??? No. If he kept his head up and played a full career, he would be in the top ten of all time, undisputed. But he did not. He failed himself and his fans, and his career. He was as much of a 'could have been', as he was a star. He was my hero player growing up, and the best of the best when he was on his game, and could have played and dominated in any era....but he did not have the longevity. He was a super talent, and could have been 'great'.....but fell saddly short of that plateau.
I would dispute that the best player of his generation is Jagr. Depends of what you consider as a ''generation''.

@@wanderer34 Agreed. Especially about the goaltending. If Philly had a Hasek, Brodeur, Balfour or Joseph, even a Vernon, they would have won Cups. Also the 'trap' and 'dead puck' era hockey befuddled them. Both the Devils and the Wings deployed such strategy and were the bugaboos of the run and gun 'Legion of Doom' led Flyers. All the best!

Lindros single handedly ruined the Franchise of the Flyers for many years as he was traded to Philly for Hextall in his prime,Peter Forsberg,some other good players and boat loads of money for Him and he did nothing for the Flyers
Lindros was terrible. Guy wouldn't even make the league these days.
