Hi my name is Emi. I'm born in raise in small town just outside Quebec City, this is where my lovely accent come from. My #vanlife story starts in September 2018. After a long-term relationship that I was trying for more than a year to rebuild, I decided it was time to end this toxic relationship once for all. This is where I decided to move away from this man that I was still in love with. I put all my belongings inside my SUV (GMC Jimmy) and moved six hours from where I was living. I didn’t know where I would sleep, didn’t know where I would work but I knew I needed to make a drastic move. At that time, I told myself I will only sleep in my car for a month while looking for a place to rent. What I didn’t know is that one month became another month and another month. In the end, I end up sleeping in my car for a full year. Even if people will consider this the lowers time of my life, this experience was the best thing I couldn’t have done with my life. I took that year to focus on myself, decide what I wanted, and most importantly what I didn’t want. That year made me also realize that for so long, I was chasing the wrong dreams. I was chasing what society wanted me to be: to have a big house, a steady job, kids, get married… None of those dreams was making me happy. In September 2019, while I was actively looking for a van, I received a phone call that someone had found my cat (Kelly). After, trying for hours with no success to communicate with my ex-boyfriend (who was taking care of her), I decided to drive the six hours to go pick her up. Without going into too much detail, it turns out he wasn’t able to take care of her anymore. So I brought her in a cat kennel for a couple of days until I found a van we both could live in. I put all the savings that I had accumulated while living in my car and bought my van (a 2011 Ford Econoline that I end up adding a hightop) In the beginning, It wasn’t so glamour. My cat and I were sleeping on a mattress on the floor of the van. We both had to adjust. Now, my cat loves this lifestyle as much as I do; she looks at the window while I’m driving and she loves exploring new places. Since then, my cat Kelly and I are have been living full-time in my self convert van.
That train 🚆 was so loud 😳. Great choice to leave the first spot to find a quieter place to visit.

The sign is PERFECT!! Love it! Kelly is so cute when she is playful! The avacado saver was a thoughtful gift and a good idea. I think it's supposed to keep it them from turning dark after they're cut in half. I need one of those.

My cat gently touches my face,rubs his head on mine,washes my face,and lies on me at night with his paws around my neck so sweet.

Quick tip....hop out and check the top surface of the rails on the tracks. If it is shiny and not rusted, the track is in use. Take care.

In my youth we lived next to a train track. When trains came it would shake the entire house. We loved the house and everything except the train issues. We finally adapted to the train sounds and shaky house to sleep the entire night without disturbance. Our animals adapted too. I love your Cat Lady sign and avocado gift. Kelly is such a caring friend to you like you are to her.

I use a quilt all year round...in Arizona. I have a heavy one and a lighter one, we keep our house at 78 all the time.

Just a recommendation; you should put something between the counter top and the back splash in the kitchen area so that food doesn't fall in there. That could lead to mould and very bad smells and it doesn't look like that would be easy to clean. Thanks.
Idea , tape the bottom ,spray expanding foam , carefully cut the foam after it dries with a razor blade level with the counter, now carefully paint it with flex seal , you can remove tape

Had back surgery 13 years ago. Same thing as you. Some good advice..... you may want to find a place to hunker down about 6 months. You will not do yourself any favors starting in the van bud. You need an apartment, friends house whatever because you're going to be in pain for a minute.
I've been on pain meds after both surgeries now for 13 years and can't be without them. The pain is unbeatable even today without them.....i hate them but I'm working, thinking, enjoying life the best you can when you're in chronic pain.
You have a tough road ahead man. But your going to get through it and be better for it. Just give yourself time to heal. You go around your hotdogging it youre gonna be super sorry old man. Or in a wheel chair the rest of your life. You will never be better than you are now best case..... hopefully it will be at least bearable man. You gotta do this so make it work well for you. Listen to the surgeon.... and do or do not do what he says. You need to tell him about the things you like to do and make sure he knows you want to get right back to those things asap. Have goals and meet them k? Prayers man. You got this.

I like blankets too.. Sometimes in the summer it gets over 32 Celsius here So that I switched to a sheet

There are placed at least here in the U.S. that will recharge those batteries for a price. As my dad says even if u don't keep those type of batteries in the machine go ahead and keep them charged. My dad also has mentioned don't keep the batteries in the power machines, because that will drain the power as well.
My dad did carpentry construction and did that with his batterie run power tools.
