How to make Velcro Fursuit Eyelids

  • I wanted to try out the velcro method for removable eyelids, so I thought I'd film the process! If you can't get your hands on good magnets, velcro is also cheap and found basically anywhere like Walmart, even Dollar Tree.
    This also is the method to use if you're wanting to add eyelids to an already finished fursuit head - that doesn't already have magnets in the head foam. :)

    does the velcro ruin the felt at all? i feel like the velcro hooks would start ripping the felt after switching the eyelids around enough times Dx

    • @freckledcatcreations
      @freckledcatcreations  Před 4 lety +3

      You know, I did have that thought, and with enough use, it might make the felt extra fuzzy. But I have an idea, possibly taking a felting needle and felting the fibers back in might work? or maybe wet felting (wetting the felt and then rubbing it a lot to tangle the fibers back into it). Though I see many makers doing velcro eyelids , and nobody ever mentions this problem, so either it happens and people don't care, or it doesn't happen...

    Can you do this with 3D follow me eyes??

    • @freckledcatcreations
      @freckledcatcreations  Před 4 lety +3

      You should be able to! The deal is where you put your eyelashes. If the eyelashes on the eye are flat on the head, then the velcro should be able to stick well! (but if you just do an inside ring of felt to cover the raw fur edge, then it might not stick as well. hope this explains it!)

    • @Kaimanshead
      @Kaimanshead Před 4 lety +1

      I haven’t fully finished it yet but what I am doing with mine is that I am following an eye tutorial which puts a large ring of black foam around the follow me eye to make the effect more prominent. I am then glueing and wrapping felt around that ring to make a harder more stable eye plus making it able to have a Velcro eyelid. Let me link you the video.

    Does this method fuzz the felt over time? Debating if i should do this method or the tiny magnets

    • @freckledcatcreations
      @freckledcatcreations  Před 2 lety +2

      It would over time, but felt is just tangled-together wool fibers, and they got that way by "wet felting" which is getting it wet and rubbing it all over until the fibers tangle together! I assume you can do some of that to un-fuzz the eyeliner, no problem :3c a bunch of other makers do velcro eyelids like this too, and nobody's mentioned a problem, so I assume there is none!
      A thing to remember about magnets is that they will attract your shaver when youre shaving, so be careful to not shave too close / get stuck, and also it's always hard to place the magnets PERFECTLY so the eyelids line up with each other exactly!

  • @Meow_dasKatze
    @Meow_dasKatze Před 3 lety

    If you want to do this you might consider, that the velcro may damage the stuff that it's sticking to over time, especially when you remove and put it back on many times. I don't know that for sure but I know for sure, that velcro can definitely sometimes damage fabric

    • @freckledcatcreations
      @freckledcatcreations  Před 3 lety

      I think it would damage the felt about the same as using the soft velcro side! and you'd need to replace the velcro at the same rate as the felt. I think you can't really get around it. I know other makers use this too.

    • @Meow_dasKatze
