      I just listened to that song for the first time, I heard a cpl similarities but it feels more like Warning to me. But regardless, I really like it!

    I really liked the new song. It reminds me of the green day good 2000s era (Warning, American Idiot, 21s century)
    The producer of Dookie and American Idiot (Rob Cavallo), is coming back for this new album, thats why it sounds very well produced (compared to the previous Green Day album w overproduced stuff)

      Don't forget that Rob Cavallo also produced Uno, Dos and Tre and they were in my opinion the blandest sounding records that the band has put out, so let's not give him all the credit. I liked most of the songs on those albums, but they felt rushed, underrealized and soulless, which is a huge shame because many of those songs deserved much better and I think the band know that now... Back then though, I don't think anyone really had their heart in it unlike with this new song which sounds inspired, finished and extremely well produced.

    I like the fact that they use simple chords but with an energy that only they know. It's worth noting that during the soft part and the solo, you can hear the melody of Basket Case. It's a great comeback for Green Day. With a song that denounces the manipulation of the population by corporations, social networks, the expropriation of a country by private companies, double talk, poverty, drugs... a mix of the band's greatest albums such as Dookie, American Idiot, 21st century breakdown...

      When my son and I listened to The American Dream is Killing Me for the first time we both stopped in our tracks when we heard the reprise of the Basket Case melody. It's an incredible song by Green Day. Instant classic!

    Liking this new song, can't wait for the rest of the album, song is very catchy! Insomniac & Nimrod are probably my favourite GD albums. I think that GD have already tried to change their songs in a few albums ie the trilogy and Father of All which in my opinion was ok with some decent songs but a lot of other people didn't like so its like their going to back to there roots which is great!

    I really liked the review. I also grew up in the 90s explosion with Dokie Green Day. They really improved the sound. They managed to come back with a sound that seems new while maintaining an old base. I don't know if this made sense...

    We are getting some fantastic angst filled music right now, but where is the youth? All our favorites from the 90s are really putting out some awesome stuff - but I'd really like to see a new wave begin for Punk music.
    Feel like there was a small wave in early 2010s, but that fizzled.
    Coming out of the Covid lockdown situations, I'd expect a bit more, regardless of opinion on the whole thing being locked away for so long should have caused a boom I'd have though! Are we finally seeing something?

    • @thepunkrockreview
      @thepunkrockreview  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Well the issue with that is that punk is a SUB culture so the stuff you're looking for, you'll have to look for. I know this sounds snarky, but I'm not trying to be. There is TONS of great, angry, punk rock music, it's just not in spotlight. A lot of good French stuff, great riotgrrrrl stuff out there.... tons of good bands. Cone by on my Sunday night streams and I introduce a bunch of underground bands! I'd love to have you there 👊
      Also, I agree that we're getting a bunch of good, angsty music. It kinda always comes at the beginning of summer and then in the fall as well, so I was expecting it.

      I think it was kind of done on purpose to an extent. They said in the album description something along the lines of a celebration of their entire career, so I expect to hear some direct and even indirect nods to some of if not all their previous albums.

      21st Century Breakdown is also my favourite Green Day album, but I never in a million years would have thought I'd see someone rate FOAM as their second favourite let alone top 3, especially over American Idiot. For me personally t's probably my least favourite record they've ever done even though I don't hate it (I am a firm believer of it still being better than most of the stuff I hear on the mainstream these days), but it's refreshing to see it getting some love and regarded that highly instead of just the usual hate I see for it.
      My top 3:
      1: 21st Century Breakdown
      2: American Idiot
      3. Revolution Radio

    You were talking about Billies vocal style you need to check out the album father of all by Green Day. I don’t know what they did to his voice but I’ve been a Green Day fan since Kerplunk and own everyone of their albums, but I do not own that one. It is absolutely horrible musically. It sounds like Green Day lyrical content sounds like Green Day the vocals do not sound like Green Day at all it sounds more like the killers to me.

  • @zachharris3040
    @zachharris3040 Před 9 měsíci +1

    Not the biggest Green Day fan. A little too poppy for me. But it's something more than that. I like sounds like J.A.R. and Longview but something about their image, political messaging, and actual sound just deters me. I think American Idiot hasn't aged that well for me. Though I'm not a music guy, I think you could call it the melodies they have going just sound studio manufactured, meaning made more to be catchy than unique. Also, for me, if you're gonna have provocative titles and lines in your songs that seem political, you better cut the cornball teeny bopper stuff and back it up with some balls to the walls edgy songs. They just don't have it.
