- Bomani Jones is joined by Domonique Foxworth for yet another edition of Foxworth Friday. The pair first discuss how at times rappers ruin good things for people like Cheesecake Factory. Then following the recent news on Shohei Ohtani firing his interpreter for a gambling, the guys discuss the aftermath and what it all might mean for Ohtani. That conversation eventually leads into a larger talk on the control gambling currently has over sports and especially sports media. #shoheiohtani #dodgers

"Shohei Ohtani and the State of Gambling in Sports" : "brought to you by Prize Picks" lol #irony
He said it as a joke.

I had a homie that drove a RAV4 and he swore he was stuntin.
Then Kanye dropped the line "what you think I rap for to push a fuckin RAV4"
My dog bought a new car the next week. Shit was hilarious.
Hilarious. What a moment Run This Town was
This is hilarious. Because as much as I'm off Kanye, I ain't going to lie that line and my wife got my mind off of buying a Rav 4 Prime.
Jay z did this multiple times.
Sport gambling is a train wreck happening right before our eyes.
Dog...Domonique. The ridiculous tangents is why we here, bro 😂😂😂
My mentor in college rather perfectly summed up the sentiment Bo and Foxworth was talkin : good is good when it’s good for you . Great talk today 🤣🤣🤣
This show needs way more spotlight. And these 2 are great together
Jay z did me filthy with the black album. What more can I say. Literally left my house to buy the black album and two throw backs I’d saved up for. Drivin home, 10 minutes into the album, 20 mins into the jerseys. “I don’t wear jerseys, I’m 30 plus, gimme a crisp pair jeans and a button up” day, RUINED!
He even rolled the story how David stern came up to him at a game and said you ruined my jersey business 😂 to be fair he was right spending 3 400 dollars on a jersey was dumb ass hell
Ohtani translater should be working for Bruno Mars
Already know this is going to be must see.
Is we doing lil bitty chains now…. Lmaooooo
bo, people have been saying the younguns don't respect their elders since their elder was pliny the elder. "don't trust anyone over 30" is not a new phrase! i have been a fan since bomani & jones, and your thoughts have been very meaningful to me, but pretty much every episode of the show this year has had a long segment about how the good ol days were better. i just turned 27, maybe i'm in the younger demo for the show but i don't wanna spend the next 60 years of my life wishing it was the 90s!
Really good discussion. Great job guys.
BOOBOO THE FOOL LMAO
Such a good conversation. Thanks.
This episode was 🔥🔥🔥
Bomani has comedic talent and timing!!! That A.C. $hit was funny!!
"Polo, f#uck that Hilfiger" 😂
Always enjoy them
Couldn't help but notice Sean isn't giving out picks at the end of the show anymore 👀 Dunno whose call that was, but it's probably the right one purely from the eventual self-preservation standpoint
Thank you for acknowledging that the UNC/dook rivalry is over. I’ve been screaming this since the final four victory. There’s no coming back for that
I think the millennial has been the punching bag of American culture in such a way that many of us are super argumentative by conditioning. And the internet fuels it
Actually the internet is what has made you mfs argumentative. Cause the internet let's you talk reckless without consequences. Where as before the internet if you wanted to argue, there was the risk of you getting punched in the face.
Naw Millennials the best of both worlds.. We went from books to computers.. Only Millennials have done that in grade school ages
I can't believe I wasn't already subscribed.
Great talk brothers 🙏🏾😂😂😂
Bomani reads ads like he's a hostage. Lol
Staring a hole through the camera
I would like to see these two create a podcast together… not just guest spots… 2 of my favorites in the game…
9:36 I love my people who think in lyrics all the time, whether said or not!
Yeah AC the release homeboy ever!

the new resentment for older people is due to the fact that before each generation left things better for the next and this is the first set of generations where statistically these generations are worse off.
I was born in the 70's and my people probably aren't gonna leave me anything but some debt. They did prepare us to go out there and get it for ourselves though. No point in complaining, because nobody cares. 😂

12:55 This is FACTS 💯
They about to have Bruno Mars performing like Jordan on Moron Mountain.
This was a great fucking episode
Bomani is correct with his Ohtani observation… it’s literally that one South Park episode with the video game and y’all know the one 😂🌚
Bo asks Dominique if little chains are back while wearing that 90's muscle tee.
37:18 I've heard that gambling addicts are more addicted to the losing than winning. The losing gives them something to work towards.
This reminds me of the movie "The Last Boyscout"
Who’s tricking with no money, that’s diabolical.
Sean I generally hate the audio on this thing but this time it was very good.
I’m rocking a little chain right now!😂😂😂
"No, actually...
Actually, no idea" 🤣🤣
One of the flexes with the little chains is you’re often using a higher quality gold. That big ole 10k gold chain just doesn’t feel as good as the smaller 24k one
In the Bay area, Asians gamble a lot. Mostly them in every casino out here. A little bit of every other race
Nate Dogg doesn't need to be strapped because he has a lot of women, it's because he also has YOUR woman. It ain't for them, that's for every man that's hatin.
I wish I could have participated in the live chat discussion for this. Y’all should read Neil Postman’s Technopoly! It brings all this to light
The bigger picture gets philosophical that we’re letting technology and algorithms guide our decisions and values. This is what Jean Baudrillard was writing about in Simulation Simulacra that the Matrix was based off of
Bobby Shmurda is mos def in the HBHOF. First ballot for sure!
This final third is some of the best macro view of not just sports, but media in general. Way too much private equity in everything
What was that book discussed regarding profit maximization?
Dj dmd go back home is pretty wild song too
"I never rock Lugz I'm way above"..Ghostface
I've never in my life wore Lugz...
To your point at 53:27 the soul of the game of football left honestly around 2012 because so many aspects of a free market society are put up for exchange value vice having genuine virtues in and of themselves. In my perspective as a black football player who believed in the ideas of "family" and "loyalty" of the sport I watched in real time the organizations I played for in high school and college more focused on the ROI instead of the logic of actual competence and winning. Being on the Raiders narcotic since '04 I was always confused by the decisions made by my favorite team until I realized that winning required sacrifice of revenue in a way that my team just wasn't trying to give up. The coaching hires between the times of "Black Jack" Del Rio and Antonio Pierce is evidence that sacrifice is not profitable. And if your organization isn't willing to leverage the farm to build to win, and a consumer based society requires results right here and now instead of delayed gratification, there will be no soul in the sport.
14:20 🎶 Just put it.....
20:46 The reason AC (Al Cowlings) said that was because the cops or whoever he was talking to on the phone was asking AC his name over and over. It’s a tactic to keep people on the phone. So AC became frustrated.
Rappers lives be an absolute mess.…thanks for the music but I’m cool on the advice 😂
Bo working out, I see you!
Not just Sports it's Movies, Video games and Music. Creativity and imagination is in the toilet.

22:33 naw, you can't say you give friends 4 mill when they in trouble.... Cousins gone be coming out the woodworks!!!
Saying that as the excuse vs saying someone stole from you and throwing your translator under the bus. Just say you were helping a friend

I lived in Asia for 19 years. Having the employee fall on the sword for the boss is kind of expected. More so there than in Western countries.
I was like 8 listening to "bitches ain't shit..." and I was like "man this is a good song, but I love my mom"
😂😂

I don't know if y'all know but...... ASIANS LOVE GAMBLING, MORE THAN ANYTHING!
Slick Rick was the first rapper I saw wearing real Platinum and his jewelry collection is worth more nowadays because it's real Platinum.
They switched it up because the Interpreter said Shohei wired money to pay gambling debt. That is illegal in USA.
39:13 🤣 language matters!
Biggie killed the Polka Dot industry with Juicy
Lol it was absolutely Ridiculous for sports to get into bed with gambling bcus the way that Humans are hardwired is that we can bypass & defeat any puzzle,,problems & task !! WHERE would Mankind Be 2day without that will & curiosity to steady press Forward !! 4 every action there's a reaction,, sum player will figure it out along sted fast convicts & the streets !! No diss to con's sum of the most creative puzzle solving minds amongst us.

1:01:30 ....might as well just quote Winston Churchill, boys: "capitalism is a terrible system - but all the others are worse"
23:19 Kung Fu and the youngins of us love the anime!!!
I’ve made this argument to my friends plenty of times about the soul has been lost in sports. Analytics plus the $$ are the biggest contributors. As for the younger generation, we have to account for how messed up the older generations have put them in, so now they don’t wanna hear anything from older generations.
"capitalism is getting a first round bye in my bracket" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
A sports league must first sell integrity. Gambling, in every aspect and on every network, clouds the picture.
Second, when you try to monetize everything in the realm of sports, you get the Dallas Cowboys.
19:12 no coincidence that this came out around tax time
Are we sure his interpreter is not the fall-guy? Pete Rose???
(CROUCHING TIGER) & (ENTER THE DRAGON)🤣🤣
I think he was closer to a best friend and is the interpreter then vise versa
Think Nate Dogg was worried about the ladies’ men.
The people on these sports channels that are sponsored or funded by gambling sites and corporations doesn't have a problem with athletes gambling or losing millions of dollars have forgotten that athletes and refs who have gotten so far in debt used to throw games to clear gambling debts or make them dollars. It's a big deal

We been doing little bitty chains Bo, bout 5 years

Two rich dudes: “Capitalism is fine, guys”
Lol
Every rich person thinks that way bc they are "safe" under it.
Exactly
You would still have hunt and/or gather for your food..capitalism or not..nothing is “free”
@@adelhardtlylYou act like these two were born into wealth, lol. Capitalism allows people to come up….if you hustle after it. Other systems keep people down because they become reliant on the system instead of going after what you want
We are in the neoliberal era of sports unfortunately 😔

3:58 lest we forget when biggie destroyed kwamé and his polka dots😂
yeah that's near the top of the list
Constellation Brands(alcohol producers) has a bar in their office on the main floor for their employees. Free of charge.
My family is the opposite of bomani's. Our love language is giving gifts.
Tiger's ex-wife literally tried to kill him & he had to apologize & pay her. Bomani has been laughing at him ever since then. Tiger would still be in prison if he did that to her for the same reason she tried to kill him.
I was also embarrassed if I supported a girl in any kind of way. Being a D1 baler I grew up warped and privileged.
Ah! The Angels are humbling him.
Lmaooo that last lil capitalism conversation was nasty 😂
Imagine someone as Dorky as Bo acting like he’s somehow above his equally Dorky counterpart Drake knock it off my boy🤣🤣
Bo knows he’s dorky, that’s why he can call out Drake.
Drake is a str8 up Clown!!!
Three things here:
1) The interpreter either had Ohtani's bank account info (?) or saw it somewhere in Ohtani's house = theft
2) The interpreter is cover for Ohtani's gambling. Biggest crime here is he did it in the wrong state. It's possible that coming from Japan, he didn't know the difference between legal and illegal sports books. Maybe gets a slap on the wrist and everybody moves on.
3) Somebody is into somebody else for $4.5M and did it using Ohtani's money, which I believe is what Bomani is insinuating. Could be his accountant, financial manager, agent, or even his interpreter. The number of affiliations here determines the scope of a grand jury, a special counsel, or even a RICO investigation. If we're anywhere NEAR organized crime, Rob Manfred might just have to Pete Rose him and put this all to bed. The Dodgers might not know the extent of it.
Either way, this says nothing about the state of legal gambling - unless someone starts betting on their own sport. Shohei might be cool here but that's a looootttttttt of money to a "bookie" when neither Shohei nor his interpreter have any need for someone like that.
Rick ross did the same to honda accords
Game did that before Ross in a song called wouldn’t get far featuring Kanye.
