@@colindateeuwisse6848 because he doesn’t really want to be drinking and sleeping around. Those are coping mechanisms he developed out of loneliness. Now, he has a reason not to need all of that’s Clare brings him some stability. I don’t like how they did it in the series though.
The way she emotes makes me cry
When you think of the person that you use to be at a young age until now, you grow and you mature. Claire met the grown and mature Henry, who knows all the right things to say. Younger Henry still drinks a lot, sleeps with multiple women, and stumbles though life.
Theo is so handsome love him as an actor!!! I too love this scene

ii just finished the series it's so good, I definitely have to rewatch it, ii didn't realize that she only ever saw short hair Henry growing up, and when she meets him it's not the one she knows, so it's an interesting concept of loving the older version of a person you know, and because he’s much more mature the idea of dating the younger not so mature version is fascinating, as well as seeing and hoping for what you've wanted for so many years and yet he’s right in front of you. I hope they get the chance to continue the story
Edit: July 1st it was announced that it was cancelled by HBO😭I’m def bummed and heart broken, no more Theo James as Henry 💔he killed it!
I think if they casted Claire better it might’ve lasted. She was a very stilted actress, probably due to trying to stay in an American accent. Henry was great. Oh well… ‘twas not meant to be 😢
@@hangry265 you could be right. I do like her as an actress but not in this role. Her character was so angsty. It just didn’t fit with the Claire in the book.

@@clarisseamouroux2525 She loves both versions of Henry but she doesn't know that. In this episode and the next one, she explains a little bit why their love is so confusing.
She has a 12 year relationship with older Henry... Young Henry doesn't have that or all the experiences with her. He's just getting to know her.
She says in that scene she loved him from when she met him in the library, but was expecting someone else, meaning him at an older age, the guy she knew so well. He of course will be that very person in time anyway.

i mean it kinda is…if they were going to meet anyway since it happened in the future why did his older version have to go back to her child version. he could have just stayed away and let it happen naturally. that girl was groomed no matter how the book and show tries to romanticize.

@@giusi22 Do you actually know what grooming is? Henry never looked at her romantically as a child. He never encouraged her crush or fantasies. He repeatedly insisted they were not going to end up together while pushing her to have a life of her own including her own romantic experiences.
If there was any “grooming” in this story it was Claire grooming 28 year old Henry into the man she met as a child, not the other way around.

Idk, “I can be someone else” is not the most romantic line to me
But young Henry isn’t being who he is
I feel like they didn’t portray it correctly. I think it’s more like he was doing all his Asshole stuff (drinking and sleeping around) because he was lonely and scared. Claire brings him some peace and stability so that he can drop those coping mechanisms. In the book, he’s content and grateful to make those changes. But In this series I feel like they made it like she was pushing him to be different against his will. Idk. As usual, the book is better.

I honestly just feel that Rose was a miscast for Claire, she exudes so much intensity but not in the way that fits the character or dynamic with Henry. I feel with a different actress the chemistry would've been more engaging for viewers

I wouldn’t say “wrong.” But I feel that neither Leslie Rose nor Rachel macadams depicted Claire from the book. They both made her so fiery. In the book, I felt like she was a strong, but gentle and unassuming character. Also, the relationship between Claire and Henry in the beginning is much sweeter. This version is good. But like weirdly angsty? Lol. Henry is way more angsty too. Idk. It’s just so different.
totally agree, threw the chemistry off and reduced the impact of the storyline - kinda feel like it made the show come off tackier than it was (no hate at all to Rose).
