- This year is aboslutely stacked when it comes to JRPGs and yet I was rooting for Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes to make a splash and while I did enjoy my time I couldnt help but feeling this title could have used some polish when it comes to the user experience and sound design hear all my thoughts in today's review!

I have never heard of this game series before your last upload and I must say, you did a good job! Very entertaining and informative vids. It might not exactly be my type of rpg, but I hope people who may be interested in it see these videos!
There being no sound effects for the walking is such a big oversight. It feels so odd without it, that it kinda damages the immersion.
Most games don't have sound effects for walking tho, is it really that much of a deal breaker? It's usually a pain to sync up such specific sounds to animations and if done badly it becomes an ear grating repetitive sound, so game developers outside of AAA development tend to avoid it.
Btw, it's a spiritual successor to Suikoden, which was a peak JRPG series during the PlayStation 1 and 2 era.
@@PomuLeafEveryday Good sound direction can make a big difference for people. It is almost as important as the art direction itself, imo. I only played like 10 minutes so far and even I noticed the lack of it and how the characters just feel like they are gliding on ice when walking.
@@PomuLeafEveryday oh I just personally think good sound direction is crucial to a game. I choose most games I play more based on their ost and sound direction than art direction, even as an aspiring game designer myself.

You're not alone, I haven't played Suikoden games. Not sure if any are connected except for the EC:Rising which is the prequel to this. But you won't feel lost if you haven't played it. But I enjoyed this review and the game is really fun. Also this is a good starting for us new guys to get us prepared for Suikoden 1 and 2 HD remaster...whenever that happens.
All suikoden games existed in one big world in different timeline. That’s why some characters,are recruitable in multiple entries. And there were a few characters that were always recruitable in every entry and a few characters that were recruitable in 2-3 main entries. Eiyuden chronicle isnt connected to suikoden, it is a new title but successor to the old suikoden series because the franchise is owned by konami. I think ultimately, the muriyama and his team’s vision was to make eiyuden games all connected if they get a chance to make a sequel.

The Suikoden Series is basically the player trying to recruit as many characters as they could and level them up to access their high level skills then match Runes to the Characters to complement their abilities. Weapon and Armor Upgrades are also a must for boss fights. Collecting and upgrading the heroes aren't necessary for the game completion, but to get the True Ending, you would absolutely need all 108 Characters recruited.
Certain characters in the 6 man party would then unlock special Combo Attacks. Like in Suikoden 2 The MC and his Best Friend can perform a 6-man Group Attack which is easily the most powerful Group Attack with the fewest characters used (since if you do a Combo Attack it uses up the the characters' participating in the combo's turn). Meanwhile you could also make a party with the Bishounens or the Curvy Ladies' as the majority, but the aforementioned "Pretty Boy Attack" needs 4 of the Bishounens to be in the party and they just do a group attack that is slightly stronger than the MC's combo with the BFF. Or if you spent time to find all 5 Cape Wearing Flying Squirrels, you can form a party with them and the MC and their Combo Attack is just them ganging up on a single enemy and attempt to throw them out of the fight (which is a whole waste of time since you could have instead attacked with only 3 to KO a single enemy). That said, there are also some characters whose combo attacks can be modified with equipped accessories for special effects or in the case for the MC's sister, makes her goof off and heal more when doing the Combo Attack with the MC, which also lowers the total damage of the Combo because she wasn't attacking. Have fun discovering all the combo attacks.
What I did want more of were the Duels, its basically a Rock Paper Scissors fight between the MC and another character and first to get hit a certain amount of times loses. Sadly there's like 3 of these duels in Suikoden 2, 2 of which are story related while the last one basically decides the ending during the epilogue.
The War aspect in Suikoden 2 is just a puzzle, where you need to use the correct squad and or resource against the enemy's army.
I'm sad that the localization is actually that bad. Sure Suikoden 2's localization has some humor injected here or there, especially when recruiting the various characters or doing their quest lines to power them up, but to use modern internet slang? Changing the meaning of Aniki to Cousin? WTF? Hopefully someone rectifies this insult to the spiritual successor of a well loved franchise.
Same ppl forget there were 6 suikodens and duel was defiantly an aspect I'm expecting it to be in dlc season pass content
Great review, I had been hearing that the "localization is trash" so I was glad you provided some examples of where it didnt hit the mark. Still think I will pick this up but hopefully they do better in the future.

This game needs a fan localization ASAP. Unbelievable that a few bad apples can destroy a game this bad.
“Destroy the game” is about as ignorant as it gets! lol The majority is loving it.
The localization isn't the best it could be (with a few meanings lost in translation) but saying the game is destroyed is stupid. It's mostly still really good. I'm playing with JP audio and English text, so some stuff doesn't match up well and it sucks, yeah. Thank god I'm not playing in English

Just more delusional blue haired translators with mental disorders pushing own propaganda and politics into someones else work . No wonder Japan is pushing for AI localization in Anime and games and cant wait for it to be done and all these crazy localizers start crying over lost jobs
In suikoden, united attack or hero combo as you said dont use mana so people use it. Now its different, so some people also notice the unbalanced hero combo

The story missions seem pretty damn fun, Idk about the rest of the game as I haven't played it yet. It's a pretty alright game so far, in my opinion.

I've been playing for about 3 hours now. Just left the runebarrows. Im loving it 100% right now despite being confused about how SPs work for a litle bit.
Be aware the Switch port is terrible lazy, poorly optimization if any….

Imma say, this game is pretty bad. This is coming from someone who didn't play suikoden. The battle, character progression, and item menus are all dog
Not your cup of tea, game is alright, I played suikoden 1,2 and 5. I love this type of rpg concept of recruiting a hundred characters, building your army incorporated into an rpg. They could have done better if maybe they have bigger budget and insurance. This is a kickstarter game, they still did great, hopefully they can make a sequel.
