Who's in love with the Darkest Nightmare too?
Or which other amp do you prefer?
Next Revv amp this amp is great!
I love my 25 year old Dual Rectifier!
Then I like the Brunetti XL, Laney VH100R and Laboga Mr. Hector
Well I am sticking with my Framus Dragon. But as a student money is rare.
currently rebuilding it though.
I like the Driftwood and the Mesa equally. But don't forget the Revv amps :)
Man you gotta try a KSR. Kinda rare in Europe though, as I understand it.
Germans really know how to build the best high gain metal amps in the universe: ENGL, Bogner, Diezel, Driftwood they really masters of heavy amp goodness.
Amen
They know something about cars too…
The Driftwood sounds great. Never heard of the brand before. I love the tone. Thank you, Kristian for demoing the amp.
Keith Merrow has a video on the Purple Nightmare. Some badass riffing in that video too.
God, I love the sound of a rectifier. I could listen to that booming, scooped rectifier sound all day.
Awesome review! I've really been waiting for this one!
thanks Kristian, i really appreciate the time you spend not only in demonstrating all the amp switches and options, but mainly trying to explain how they affect the sound. It took a long time for me to understand many of these concepts that you describe, and i hope new generations axemans will learn a lot from your videos and continue playing heavy music...
Sounds so sick I had put my mask on
Haha! ❤️🍺😂
Haha! ❤️🍺🤪
YES. I've been looking forward to this one.
Commenting before watching...
That driftwood sounds killer man. Love this channel i learn something almost every episode
I really like how you really dig into these amps.
Certainly some of the best explaining of the features in detail.
As always great video and amazing sound.
❤️🍺
Nice video man! Really intresting and deep content. Im looking forward for the jcm and goat video.
Keep chuggin!!
Great video, as ever! The driftwood sounds great but your dual rec sounds amazing, wish mine sounded like that! I think mine needs a little work!
Great review! Love mine, cant wait to use it live lml.
Und wieder ein tolles Video. Danke! Der Amp ist zwar weit ausserhalb meines Budgets, aber Hammer. Ich kannte Driftwood vorher noch gar nicht.
Great clip, glad I found it. Picked up an old VH4 (blue from '96) recently and although it's a phenomenal amp I'm just a basic beast and a single channel chug machine keeps me as happy as anything. Had a lot of fun with a 6505 for a long time and thinking about getting back into one of those, but the Nightmare has been on my radar a while and I just have to spend some time with one. This clip has convinced me I need to do that sooner than later.
Killer sound! \m/ Like the low end tightness! cool video :)
That Brunetti always hold it's own in all your demos... interesting
Because it's great. For the super brootal stuff it sounds too "nice" though.
@@KohleAudioKult Hey can you do a video comparing the effects of different wattages on tone/tunings?; I think most people already understand it's effects (or lack thereof) of wattage on volume. Thanks!
The extra mid range the Driftwood has over the Rectifier REALLY makes it more interesting. We all know and love the rectifier, but it's lack of mids combined with it's extensive use over the last few decades can sometimes leave it feeling a bit bland, for lack of a better term. The Driftwood is a very nice breath of fresh air.
Good analysis. I’m doing a Rectifier video next week. Stay tuned!
Your guitar tones always sound sooooo amazing. They sound so huge and evil with great articulation. Would be awesome if you could get your hands on an Omega Amp and do a demo of it. Thanks for the video!
i'll go with the Driftwood
Driftwood sounds impressive
Love your riffing Kohle, old good school, so to speak. My thing :) Cheers
Ohhhh that f-n Driftwood! I love that thing!
Yes! Distortion pedals and JCM800's are right up my alley!
That Driftwood really killed it!!! I loved the way it sounded!!! So many choices and sounds that it produces, just awesome!!!!
Very Versatile and forward thinking from such a young boutique amp company
The Driftwood sounds fucking good ... really cool video as always ... horns up !
I love those Driftwood Amps
OK now I am stoked about this Eminence speaker. I have a stereo cab. I have 2 WGS Reaper 30s on one side and was undecided on what to put on the other side. I will have to check out that speaker. Love the V30 but jesus it's not the only speaker out there.
Great sounding amp right there, Kohle!
It really kicks ass Scott! Get one! ❤️🍺
Im here for the bruuhtal, ive been pleased
Really cool video ! I'm really curious about this Marshall JCM800/Plexi !!!
That Driftwood sounds great (love the built in TS) but I still love me some Rectifier. I was plugged into my Tremoverb the other day, the vintage high gain -- love it.
Nothing beats the Rectifier. It has that perfect space in the low end for a bass to fit in. Just sounds great.
Revv and Friedman does! 😂
@@pazuzu1325 not even close, especially those two amps
The Dual rectifier is still the benchmark for heavy. I've tried a bunch of other amps and very few can give you such a bone rattling, fat sound. That being said, I do think the Driftwood sounds really good.
I fully agree!
Driftwood sounds really nice ! It seems you can get the Rectifier sound and beyond with that amp.
Grüße gehen raus an Marek. Deine Amps sind so gut wie euer Senf und euer Bier (Frenzel) ;)
Love Kohle's counterpoint guitar riffs! The amp's cool, too.
Thank`s for bring this monster head ``DRIFTWOOD`` sounds very amazing. Dint know about it util i see/lisen to you`re video.
That Driftwood is fuckin' brutal...best out of the bunch. Nice video!!
I think you've officially convinced me that Eminence DV-77 > Celestion V30
It's so creamy yet tight. That Driftwood sounds fucking phenomenal by the way. Insane tone you got at the beginning of the vid.
Good video, Kristian! You wound me up with the idea of comparing the Marshall to the Driftwood!!! That literally fizzled-out!
Kristian, I would love it if you could embark on a quest for the very best Marshall-y EL-34 boutique amp AND the best Peavey 5150-like amp, probably NOT featuring 6L6 power tubes. I have heard that the original 5150 used Sylvania power tubes that are no longer produced. Related to the topic of OTHER POWER TUBES: have you ever loved an amp featuring KT-77 power tubes?
Definitely want to see a vid on the Marshall + pedals.
Damn! I want a Driftwood so badly! Just played the Profiles that Lasse Lammert and Mark Lewis did of the Purple Nightmare and they are my absolute favorite!
Not sure if it is the Mick speakers but man I can hear SlipKnoT in there!! Brutal tone in the best way.... AweSome
Would love to see the goat vs the Revv and other pedals. It would be great to see the pedal settings too.
Would love to get my hands on a Driftwood amp. I'd been eyeing the Purple Nightmare....but dang the Darkest Nightmare sounds just as awesome. Great video dude! Big fan of your channel.
The Purple is alot more versatile. If you just need one crushing tone then the Darkest Nightmare is your amp
@@zxexrxox yeah I'd probably still go for the Purple Nightmare just for the versatility. I have some Kemper profiles of it that totally crush...however I'm still very impressed by this Darkest Nightmare. Thing sounds massive!
@@DarkHorizonsMusic
Marek makes some awesome sounding stuff
@@zxexrxox absolutely!!
This is a great amp thank you very much! Only 1 channel (which is enough tbh) but extremely versatile. Sadly I can't afford to buy one, but staying with the ENGL Powerball isn't a pain in the ass :-D
That Marshall sound !!!!🤘💀🤘 Fooooook that is the best sound ever: ultimate sonic devastation !!!! Bitte, do a video on that 😮
AWESOME!!!!!
Truly cool amp. Would be also nice to see some Grindstein+Marshall action!
For me it's my Laney AOR pushed with a OD pedal. Sounds gritty and different than most other amps with all the EQ options. I got it for very cheap (300€) as well.
I might be alone on this one but, I would like to hear the amp 1. I know their are videos already but I like you're way of walking through the tone and feeling of the amp.
This amp sounds brutal probably will be my next amp after the classic dual recti
loved that super opeth sounding riff at the beginning 👍
Thanks! And I love Opeth 🤘❤️
That amp sounds pretty damn neat, very thick, and crunchy. Definitely my favorite out of these. If I had the time, space, and budget I'd love to fuck around with all sorts of amps but reality doesn't match that, so Kemper it is :D... That being mentioned, a curated and comprehensive general-purpose Kohle Kemper pack featuring a versatile set of amps/speakers is something I'd like to see and happily pay for.
You always Kill it 🤘☠️🤘
A comparison video with the Revv Generator would be sick!
Sick riffage!!! SOOOOOO GOOOOOODDD!!!!!
and the amp is pretty good too.....
Hey Kohle now you HAVE to buy that Darkest Nightmare, it sounds very refined.
Yeah, maybe I should.
Sounds sick always loved the boogie but lately the engl savage rings out nice! Also fortin amps have my ears screaming
Omg that amp is great but the riffs at the end are even better. Reminds me on the band Night in Gales, who are also German. Coincidence?
My god.... the sound of that thing. Like a high gain precision scalpel. And your playing is clean and tight as fuck!!
love the channel man! Would like to see what you could do with the orange cr120 solid state amp. 🍺🤘🏻
Oh yeah, not the first comment like this. I'll see what I can do.
Actually sounds really really nice.
I still prefer the Rectifier. If you want it more singing with more mids, just choose the vintage mode... The rectifier has so many colors to offer. You can also play jazzy or crunchy tones with the beautiful clean channel. Amazing!
I have the offical Driftwood purple Nightmare kemper profiles and they are amazing, wish I had the real amp.
Yes sir, one of the profiles I use most!
Love it. Subbed. Do a review of the legendary Metaltronix if you can🤘
This vid comes with good timing, since I'm looking at a Mesa as one option for a new amp.
Get the Multi-Watt Triple or the JP-2C.
Wow, loved the grinding mid-range of the Brunetti. I'm definitely no expert but in my head I always ask myself....can I hear the mid-range from Decapitated's The Negation or from Vader's Necropolis. I think Hertz Studio was on point there. Even though those recordings are not technically perfect, they were magical. The Brunetti has it I think.
Hey Kohle great video as usual, did you on purpose make a mix with guitars a little too loud to have a better comparison ? Because I know your work (big fan) but IMO even if the guitars have a better place in a mix ( a little quieter) you'll make your point. Thx a lot for the vids you're the man
Of course this is not a final mix. Guitars are pushed for sure!
Buy it...That’s a nice amp. I wouldn’t be angry at its lack of IR. They already gave the boost and gate, so they had to draw the line somewhere.
i would keep this amp, it really fits you
It’s crazy how much better the Driftwood sounds in comparison to the Rectifier. And I’m pretty sure there’s also a version with a clean channel
That Driftwood sounds pretty killer
I don’t know who is the king! But after this video I will!!
you`ll be the king? haha
WARREN!!!💪🏻
@@spaceexpireaudio666 haha no, that’s definitely Kristian!
@@chiefindisguise yes!! Hello!
I've made a comment on this vid before a while ago but even coming back almost a year later the Driftwood Darkest Nightmare tones are still absolutely insane. Been tone searching and watching this video every couple/few months and it's still such a great sounding amp. Has more clarity and less "shrouding" frequencies that the Mesa has, and is even slightly more dynamic and its dynamics are really pleasant. The Mesa's dynamics can be a bit unforgiving and unnatural. The closest I've gotten to the Darkest Nightmare is with the NDSP Omega Granophyre, it has the same modern voicing and frequencies, it also some similar things like mid voice switch etc.
Welcome back!
That amp doesn’t get old! 🤘
06:58 Sounds incredible. Full stop.
What a wonderful all round metal amp! Nice package but way outta of most mortals price range! 😜
AHHH I want to try out a driftwood amp 😎
please please please do a video on the 4 input Marshall JCM 800 PLEXI! Same amp Queensryche used on operation mind crime!
Hi, pleaseeeee make a video about the Marshall JCM 800 with four holes, standing behind of you!!!
Maybe you could try some solid state heads on the channel? I'm especially interested in the orange crush 120
And I also wanted to mention how many cool chords and little arpeggios you use in your playing. Souds really nice and kind of refreshing to me.
Thanks man! There have been quite some requests for that Orange amp. The question is more: Will they send me one?
@@KohleAudioKult They'd be stupid if they didn't
Or PCL Stagemaster. Great underrated amp...
Really curious to see what you can do with that old Marshall.
Getting one, 5150, Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier and JCM 800 is in every studio and almost majority of modern metal albums. If this is a better modern 5150 with unique voicing that can be pushed into the Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier camp. Also I am a fan of amps that have single channels that just do one that perfectly. This amp checks off a lot of boxes. I am in!
It sounds nothing like a 5150. It's way more dry and has less mids.
The correct answer was Mark 2C+ with JP2C being accepted as wel
I just loved that Dual Rectifier sound - what was your exact setting for the Mesa ?
I do t remember.
But that’s not much you can tweak.
Nothing is far from 12 o‘clock.
Make sure to turn the rectifier tubes off and set it to bold.
I honestly hear these amps so damn similar to each other. I hear tiny differences, but nothing is major, I hear at best a "middle" difference from brand to brand, but it's never too much to make me outright prefer one over another. I get at an infinite crossroads because of that, all of them are too good for me, I can do good stuff with all of them and that paralyzes me.
I agree thatching the end you can grab anyone of them and start playing instead of wasting your time testing, haha!
@@KohleAudioKult but, but.... Tone! 🤣
obviously it s a question of tastes but i preger the fuzzeir tone of the marshall with pedal. however good amp indeed 😊
Love the features and looks of the Driftwood amps. But trying to decide between Diezel VH4, Diezel Herbert and ENGL Savage as well. Have some nice ones already: Bogner Uberschall TJ, Mezzabarba MZero and Mesa Boogie Mark V so no rush and what to complement and blend best?
Just came across your channel, love the demos! I've been a fan of ENGL amps for a long time. How do you think the ENGL SE or Fireball would fall in this comparison?
Thanks! ❤️🍺
The first generation was a disaster. Overgained, thin and fizzy. But I heard the new ones are better.
I do love the Savage though.
Only two words for the Driftwopd: Broo tal
As soon as I saw the title I had to watch it
Excelente 🤟
The most Underrated High gain amp of them all Carvin V3m ... I bought a Revv G4 high gain pedal because of such crazy high reviews, but in real time, it has nothing to offer that I dont already have in the Carvin V3m. Y a never hear anyone praise this amp though.
I got a Carvin Legacy here which sounds way too dark for any rhythm work. I’ve assume the V3 is different?
Solar Fragment kicks ass!
Hi Kristian. Great video. The amp sounds great. Ive got a few questions regarding amps and recording. Do you ever use multiple amps on a track. If so what are you looking for in the amps to compliment each other. I see a lot of people using less gain than you would expect when recording and I just wondered how much gain is too much. Cheers. 🤘🏻
If I have 4 tracks, I always use two different amp setups. The more tracks you have, the less gain you need. But that also highly depends on your taste.
@@KohleAudioKult thanks for the reply. Is that one amp left and one amp right or a blend of both in both channels?
The Driftwood sounds sooo good, it'll be great if you'll be able to borrow an old Mesa Mark IV :-)
Hey Kohle, did you watched the Nolly's video on the "blob side sound" of the cone? I'm curious of your opinion on the matter. Also guys from Zilla would love to get one of those DV77's, their speaker comparison videos are next lvl imho
Amazing video brother incredible tones, have you ever tried out an MT15?
Is that the PRS amp?
I have heard good things about it.
Yes sir, I think you’d love the distortion 🤘🏻
I really like this amp and the design is great. My only issue is I wish there actually was not a noise gate or built in OD… Reason being, if you are buying a boutique amplifier most guitarists would have those two pedals. Plus, the price would go down without those two features. Just my two cents
