My mom also made breads for us 5 kids. Every day coming home from school our favorite snack was her cinnamon raisin bread, piping hot with pure butter! Weekends were coffee cakes and dinners were yeast rolls. We worked, played and studied hard. If you don't sit on your butt watching tv all the time, you can eat this yummy stuff.
Our mom was old school strict and i had t know how to sew, crochet, knit, embroidery and cook. Plus so many other things she considered the womanly arts. It was hard and I grumbled about it non-stop but now, I can do so many different things my friends can't. I really appreciate and adored my mom. I miss her a lot.

My mom, too, insisted I learn what were considered the basics in those days. If you don't mind, what year was your mom born, and in what country?
I feel sorry for young people here in the USA nowadays, since nothing is being taught, and everyone has the attention span of a 3-year-old.
My mom was born in 1934 in Liverpool, England, and I miss her so much.

My Grandmother was like that. She always ate "the funny one" and left the best of anything for us. I know unconditional love because I had her in my life from 5 to 11 years old. She came over from Scotland when she was a teenager all by herself and became the neighborhood's grandmother, know as Peggy. I was so blessed. She was born in 1900,124 years ago. I still miss her but she lives on through me. I make her Scotish Shortbread, which is 1000 times better than any other I have tasted. She kept receipes that read "a pinch of that" or "a dash of this" but were made with love.

My parents were born in early 1940's. They grew up on farms. My mom was an excellent cook and kept our home clean and well-organized. She wasn't good at sewing other than the basics, like fixing hems. My dad could do all the household chores as well. So, when she had to leave us with dad, it was business as usual. My siblings and I were born in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Our parents were pretty progressive, so both us girls and our brother learned basic repairs to home and car as well as cooking, laundry, and all other daily, mundane chores. My sister-in-law has no complaints, unlike so many other women who work full-time and still do the bulk of household chores and child-rearing. Even stay at home moms need a break. Dad shouldn't babysit for mom. He should be co-parenting.

As the daughter of a professional baker I can't resist making one correction to this BEAUTIFUL post. I can hear my father's and mother's voices in my head editing the heading because grandmother does not cook this bread. She bakes it. ;) Thank you for posting this lovely recipe and beautiful video. I've been savoiring the artistry and poetry of the whole thing. Perhaps I will even bake the bread. :)
