I just got mine and I can't tell you how much I love them - they lay down beautifully and I can't believe how vibrant the colors are. I went with the 48 set and am very pleased but may add a few colors as I go. Thank you for all of the information and hints!

I "FINALLY" figured out what those fine grains of paint are called (granulating pigments) that I saw on your swatches. Learned that from a video by Sandy Allnock. "Non-granulating pigments are those that react smoothly and evenly with water. They tend to cover the paper equally, with little or no variation in color and texture. Other pigments we use are granulating, which means that when water is added the pigments separate from the binder and settle into the “valleys” of the paper. As it dries in the “valleys” it leaves a grainy texture."

Finally bought these and they are amazing. Paper choice makes a difference. Using a watercolor paper I'm really pleased with how nice my coloring and shading looks. While I watched several videos Jennifer continues to be my best (or maybe worse?) enabler! This is really the video that got me to truly consider buying them. Until this I'd not been interested in the whole coloring craze. I'm going to add the color to the caps like she did as I think that will help me as I choose colors.

I've had my Zig Clean Color pens for about 4 or 5 months now and love them. I started with Distress Markers and continue to use them, often in conjunction with my Zigs. Zigs don't have a gold like the Fossilized Amber in the Distress - so I use that -- they all work well together. Thank you as always for all your great tips and information. I've returned to this video for a quick review on your tips to see if there was anything I needed to brush up on.

Jennifer McGuire - I did my set of 40 pens this way today and if you heat set the swatches briefly, they do not change color when you add the glossy accents. I put the swatches on with Ranger Multi Medium Matte and Glossy accents for the final coat, just as you did. I was making swatches 7 or 8 at a time, so they needed only about 30 seconds with my heat tool.

Great minds think alike! I color swatch nearly every medium I buy and attach it to the medium so it is visible in its storage position. Sure beats picking up every Distress ink pad, stain, spray, paint, etc! Great video - can't wait to get more of these markers. I, too, coat the swatch color with sealer so if the swatch gets wet or another color on it, it can be wiped off.

    • @Lillian.M.
      @Lillian.M. Před 9 lety +12

Jennifer McGuire Ink I respectfully disagree - Jennifer you are an ARTIST, you create beyond one's imagination in so many ways. Every craftsman uses someone else's material, to create, and most materials are there for that exact use. An Artist to me, comes when someone uses these materials and then creates Art, be in any shape of form, and is able to create something else that one could not image, or what that material might have been made for, the Artist finds other uses for it. These words Artist, Artisan, Artistic would be an excellent reference when talking about Jennifer McGuire. You make, cause, bring, become, and create paper to become so much more. You are also an excellent teacher, others can learn, study, practice, and observe what you do and learn from it. This means the world to many, and speaks volume of who you are as an Artist. I also feel that Laura Bassen, and Vickie Papaioannou, are Artist's too, and also looks and creates beyond what we can image. Yes, there are many Artist out there, who are also great, and share of what they know too ( thank you ). But, for now, I will speak of you ladies. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, tips and tricks, ideas, and most of all your personal time to make these videos and keeping up with your blogs, besides answering emails. Thank you wholeheartedly ! xoxo God Bless Lillian M

Thanks for the video 😊 You can do the same (thin strokes and broad strokes) with the Zig brushable pens and they have a firm tip. You can actually do that with many other brush pens with firm tips. Also you don’t dammage any tips that are waterbased (you scribble with the brush pen, even with a firm tip, on a piece of paper to get the original color back). In a word, the kind of tip is just a matter of taste (you’ll get the same beautiful result with both types).

Great info, Jennifer, as always. I've probably watched more of your videos than anyone else's on CZcams. Your production values are so high which is helpful, too. I'm struggling with what to tell my husband to get me for Christmas. I've been trying a few of different kinds. Some Copic (amazing), some Spectrum Noir, some Distress Ink colors. I have so much to learn, and I'm a crafter and a sewer, not an artist and definitely not a letterer like Kristine Werner. I've also been having fun with adult coloring books and I bought new blending tools with my Derwin Colored pencil set which I already had, which are crucial to getting rid of the lines, which I hate. It's all fun, though, so I guess that's the key, right? I've bought lots of stuff based on your recommendations. Lots of others do, too, apparently, because when I go to look at each product, so many times they're out of stock or Amazon recommends that I buy one with another one that you have also recommended! What a coincidence! Lol. Keep up the amazing work you're doing. I really, really appreciate your talents, your organizational skills, and everything!

Thank you for reiterating how the Zig Clean Color Brushes work and all that you can do with them. I was interested in how to store them, then surprise, there you are informing me about that. If I wanted to store them vertically, would that create a problem with ink running out?
I ordered the 24 pack a couple of weeks ago and can`t wait to get my hands on them, one problem, forgot to order a flesh tone. I am sure I will also want a few others colors once I start playing around with the 24.

Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens: If you look closely at the wrapping, there is a notch/dip in the plastic in between the two serrated lines both at the top and the bottom of the pens. If you work just a bit with your nail to draw it down about 1/2", you will be able to pull it completely down the pen like a zipper. Once you have done that the rest of the cover just pulls off with no effort. If you twist the cap first, you will NOT be able to get the wrapping off as easily. Thought I would share.

I just purchased the entire set of 80 (Amazon had a great price so I couldn't pass it up!) and was going to just keep them in the box they came in, BUT I quickly discovered that was not going to work! I ended up having to take a bunch of colors out because I couldn't find which ones I was looking for. So I am definitely going to get that storage container you mentioned. Also I know people don't need all the colors, but personally I like having them all because I never know what I'm going to create, so having so many choices makes it easier for me. I love your videos !!! Just subscribed . You have 2 different types of color swatches for zig clean brushes. What paper did you use RANGER-Surfaces Watercolor Paper 8-1/2x11 ? I been looking for water color paper that I can use with printing coloring pages . Thank you .

Awesome! I bought a 12 pack last night and I can't wait to get them! Which color(s) would you recommend for a Caucasian skin tone? I'm think of buying a few individuals one to widen the versatility without buying all the sets.

I love your super informative videos! They are all kinds of awesome. I've gotten some scissors from your "my favorite crafty things" series (among other things) and I'm so, so happy with them. As for these, I restricted my poor wallet as long as I could, but yesterday I ended up ordering a set of brush pens anyway, hahaha. You make it too hard to resist :)

Hi, Jennifer: How are you? Thank you for your post on CZcams for all of knowledges and tips we need to know as new paper crafter.
Comparing between Tombow and ZIG real brushes markers which one is better for new comers, since I got some Copic markers but need some water based marker.

have you had any trouble with the labels on your markers not staying true to color now that you've had them for awhile? I made up a whole set of labels and a week later, the blues are all not true color, and the purples are starting to fade off, etc. (i dont store them in direct sun)

Thank you for taking the time to do a thorough review. I don't have any watercolor pens or pencils but, I have been thinking about ordering some. I think these have just moved to the top of my list.
Have you tried them on Neenah Solar White cardstock?

  • @sassypowers

I was wondering if since you showed blending with dove blender pen to get softer look without the water, if this technique can be done with stamping an image on smooth cardstock instead of water color cardstock. I love watercolor look, which is why I bought the pens, but I hate the texture and the color of watercolor paper. also found that sometime the pens leave brush marks on some of my highly texture watercolor paper some in my stash.

Great video Jennifer and thanks for the tip about unwrapping the pens. I was trying to pull the little plastic tab on each pen!! Yikes!! Oh, and do you know how the pens compare to Akashiya Sai brush pens???

I'm waiting anxiously for my 80 set to come in the mail. I ordered them with Christmas money. I have every art supply already but I thought these would be excellent for making my cards or that's how I justify it and it was money just sitting there waiting to be spent. lol
