Grand Theft Auto IV is an action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles on 29 April 2008. Players complete missions-linear scenarios with set objectives-to progress through the story. It is possible to have several active missions running at one time, as some missions require players to wait for further instructions or events. Outside of missions, players can freely roam the game's open world, and have the ability to complete optional side missions. Composed of the fictional city of Liberty City, the world of Grand Theft Auto IV is larger in area than most earlier entries in the series. At the beginning of the game, players can only explore the first island-composed of Dukes and Broker-with all other islands unlocking as the story progresses.

I remember the first day I played GTA 4, at one moment I was driving a car and hit a small wall, Niko just fly over the front window and hit a street light, he put himself up, and the steel from street light hit he head, and then he die. I still remember every seconds of this moment.

@@keyarthule5886 Better, the game indeed was released in 2008, but we got to see the first glimpse in March 2007, so at that time San Andreas (released October) was only out for TWO AND A HALF years. It’s just crazy.

Free roaming is trash in gta 4. Cheats are extremely limited.
After you're done with the story, there's nothing left to do.
Theres no car customization, no character customization through tattoo parlours or barbers.
There's no weapon customization either.
Free roaming and causing mayhem is way more fun in 5 and SA than 4, thanx to the better vehicle, cheat, and weapon variety.
San andreas had way better side activities, and 5 tried to replicate the same. By that logic, 4 is extremely bland compared to 5 and especially, SA.

I swear I love GTA5, but IV definitely has it's own unique vibe that still amazes me. The weight shift of vehicles was so realistic. Rolling around in a Huntley was the best! I remember trying my best not to wreck it.😂

GTA iv was and still is the best game I’ve ever played. Not gonna lie I think I clocked it about 15 times.
Soldier of God Yoel Romero GTA IV Online will always hold a special place in my heart. The randomness of all the different outcomes was always amazing and unpredictable everytime. It used to leave me on the edge of my seat and with a heart pumping full of adrenaline! "Death match" and "Team Death Match" were so awesome to me. The advantages were always fair no matter *WHAT* "rank" you held. But I will mention Rapid Fire controllers which some players would covertly use in order to gain some extra leverage over other players who used STANDARD PS3 Dualshock 3 controllers, which was considered cheating on all levels. *REAL SKILL* does not require phony or false advantages and it never has, nor ever will.

lol i called that bullshit, gta 5 has like 20x more attention to details compared to gta 4. for example:
-npcs reaction to you following them
- the cops, although they don't arrest npcs, are actually pretty smart, they try to tackle your car if you're speeding high and make roadblocks, also another clever manuever.
- roads have actual depth, not just flat textures
- and many many more that i can't recap.
gta 5 missions are also pretty fun instead of "hey niko drive over here, hey niko drive over there, shoot that guy BANG BANG" just because gta 4 has some features that gta 5 doesn't didn't mean the whole game is bad. get your nostalgia glass out of your eye fucktard
Detail 11 happened to me with a NPC hang on for a long time,thing is the door was loose and I did a hard right and the NPC and the door sling fully open to hit a cargo truck......amazing.

Buy it then. I was on a marked where they sold almost new ones for 5 euros👌 It’s damn fun today too. And It’s arguably, but on most things GTA IV is better than GTA V. GTA 4 has Storyline, physics and the npcs on GTA 4 behaves more realistic
this game was way more immersive than gta v for sure. i could play story mode for hours than compared to gta v and get bored in like 30min. rdr2 was the most recent rockstar game where i had fun on story mode like that since gta iv
I discovered another awesome detail today. You can drop the grenade ground and still pick it up and throw it to the enemies but you have to be quick.
Tried the same in GTA V it doesn't let you pick up the grenade once you drop it.
That's so cool. I didn't know that after all these years.
Actual grenades have a shuttle which have to be pulled off before throwing. After opening it there is no point in picking it up unless you have a suicide attempt.

I played this for the first when it came out in 2008. I was 8 myself and played it with my brother, and we took turns after each death but we tried to survive the longest with 5 stars.

@@jackkelso4611 If you actually played it, you'd know that most missions aren't 'go shoot this guy'. Those missions are mainly near the end of the game, and even then there's not many you have to complete. Most missions, while they do have shootouts, don't need to you specifically kill someone, you can even spare some. There are some that don't even require any killing. In GTA IV, the story and writing is literally better in every way. Likable characters, plot twists, smooth flowing storyline, player made choices, realistic physics (cough, swingset, cough), graphics that are miles better than SA. SA's looks didn't age well at all by today's standards, GTA IV still has some compelling graphics that are pretty decent. The sound quality is much better too. SA's voices sound like MW2 multiplayer lobbies, sound like they have something in their mouth while talking. IV's sound quality is pretty top notch, couple bumps here and there, but so much better than SA. Not to mention IV was the first to include an online multiplayer. SA's only good for nostalgia, if people played it back then, memes and vehicle customization, otherwise I'd go with IV any day. Rockstar had a massive budget for IV's development, and it very much shows that. IV is objectively far more better than SA. But hey, this is all just what I find interesting in IV, and at the end of the day, it all comes to a matter of personal taste on what you find better.

Obviously R went for the money approach with gta v with all the online and the destructive behavior towards the modding community. I just hope this wont continue with VI and onwards on the franchise because itd be a shame to ruin a legendary and revolutionary series because of greed.
it's quite scary to think, but we've seen many good developers from the past getting their ass fucked and are forced to rush their games by greedy publishers. The same case goes to rockstar games, i'm a bit afraid that gaming industry someday will be just money making machine just like holywood industry. luckily we have rdr2 which prove rockstar still put efforts on their games.

I love GTA IV. It had fewer minigames than San Andreas but the core gameplay was so detailed and had so much depth. The physics alone make driving, crashing, fighting and having shootouts so much fun. GTA V felt kind of hollow in comparison.
Gta IV took the essential features from SA, and redefined or heavily simplified other recreational features

4:45 While cool, this has to be the most useless feature in the whole game. You literally have to use this once to smash a shop window when it's introduced in an early mission. Most people will probably forget it's a thing in couple of hours. Someone actually to spend time to work on this mechanic and it was not used effectively at all.

Some of them are basic and seen in gta 3 era games. But the most interesting detail I spotted which you missed is the dust that is created when Niko steps on sand. Watch carefully when he walks on sand. Way cooler detail than footprints :)

I loved the game for how cars worked. How they broke down, how they were tuned (But you couldn't tune them on your own), how the damaging system worked (not like in GTA V hitting a wall with 200 km/h and getting one scar in). It was just so great
Very nice video, GTA IV is still my favourite GTA together with Vice City. The atmosphere, details, physics, character and story really made this game an unforgettable experience. Above that this game still looks good today and the free roam isn‘t getting old because of the points mentioned above. Also the multiplayer was so „down to earth“, if you know what I mean. GTA Online developed so unrealistic. It almost feels like Saints Row with all the flying cars and shit.

Spoggi99 I love the entire series, but I see what you mean. GTA V was unrealistic compared to 4, but still more realistic than the other games of the series. They were trying to tone it down after 4 because the game got a lot of criticism when it was released. I loved these small details, but a lot of people felt that they meant nothing if the game itself wasn't fun to play.
Rockstar tried to elevate the series to something better and they were slapped down for it, now we can see the exact same thing happening with people whining about every little thing they didn't have in V.
GTA games have always been "missing" features from previous games. People acted like SA was the best when 4 came out (cus jetpacks and leveling), but I remember when SA came out and people complained that you couldn't rob stores like in VC.

@@AG-zw4of the non-sport cars in gta 4 drive almost like real life normal life cars when driven fast. it's the sports cars where they got suspension physics weak
@@AG-zw4of GTA IV's driving and crashing physics were way better than V. In IV, even some of the smaller vehicles felt like they would roll over if you turned sharply when going too fast. And took realistic damage (to some extent). In V, like 90% of the cars just felt glued to the road with no real risk of rolling over unless you are in a real tall/top heavy vehicle.
Plus the vehicles in V felt like they had too much durability to them. I remember rolling my car in IV and it crumpled up. In V, I rolled my car and it got some scuffs and dings on it, maybe the bumper fell off. They just felt too tanky.

@@HybridBlueDream If I remember right most the reason was people whinging about falling off bikes too easy and falling over from being bumped by cars and that driving was too hard. I love 4 for it's Euphoria Physics, but even in TLAD and EFLC you can tell they were dumbing down bikes and being knocked over for the upset players sadly

Whenever an NPC became hostile toward me I always made sure there was a cop or another hostile NPC around, it was funny as hell watching the cops apprehend them or the NPCs accidentally punching each other and getting into a fight.

The police in GTA IV were not only more realistic, but also way more balanced than they are in GTA V. Police in GTA IV (when in a vehicle pursuit) drive safely while chasing you when you have a 1 star wanted level. At two, they start to drive a little faster, but still tend to be cautious of their surroundings. It isn't until wanted level 4 or 5 that they start a demolition derby, and go aggressive on you. At 5 or 6, (I forgot which it starts at, but it's definitely not 4 or lower) the police officer in the passenger seat will actually start shooting out the window to try and take you down (Please note that unlike the LSPD, the LCPD actually shuts down the streets at this stage, so their chances of hurting innocent civilians is very rare) Police are also good shots, but only when you let them. Really, the only way you're going to die to a cop in GTA IV, is in these scenarios;
A. You run out of ammo in all guns while there's maybe two officers there
B. A police officer with a shotgun sneaks up on you
C. You literally get swarmed by officers
D. NOoSE shows up
But yeah, the police in GTA IV felt like actual police. You get in a brawl with a citizen, and don't really feel like fighting, just run up to a cop and let yourself get hit once. They also are seen patrolling Liberty City, both in squad cars, and on foot. Police officers in GTA V are only seen directly outside of police stations, in scripted police chases, and when you get a wanted level. The only exception to this is when you're in downtown Los Santos, then you can see the occasional police car drive around. Downtown is also the only area where the other 2 patrol cars, the police Buffalo, and the police Stainer, are called in to chase you. Everywhere else in the city, and 100% of the time, the police interceptor is the only car that responds. Police chases are also really wonky in V, with a 1 star wanted level lasting very shortly, and the police drive erratically, no matter how many stars you have. Also, a neat little fact that isn't too important, but that I find cool: In GTA IV, if you lose your wanted level while a NOoSE or FIB agent is in the area, and then get a 1 star level, they can actually arrest you; while in GTA V, NOoSE officers cannot arrest you, they'll just stand there with their gun aimed at you, and wait for a regular police officer to apprehend you. Police in GTA IV can also arrest you at any star level, but only if you're sitting still in a vehicle. 1 officer (LCPD, ASP, NOoSE, or FIB) will stop shooting you, and instead walk up to the door and pull you out, resulting in an arrest. In GTA V however, once your 1 star becomes 2, any chances of giving up are now gone. LSPD and the LSSD also have a tenancy not to miss their shots. Ever. If you aren't careful, all it takes are 3 or 4 standard officers to kill you, even if they're only armed with pistols. Although this is more realistic, it also makes the game less fun, as the police in games should be used as an obstacle, aka; something there to slow you down or challenge you, but can be overcome. Cops in GTA V aren't an obstacle, they are a full on cinder block wall that stops you in your tracks. Reach a 5 star wanted level, and you can kiss your ass goodbye.
They must combine the details gta 5 and gta 4 and create gta 6

GTA IV had a better story than GTA SA in my opinion. GTA SA is a great overall package. Great gameplay, the best map, great story, etc. But GTA IV had the best story.

Evie Warner A remaster doesn't have to be just better graphics :p Maybe some bug fixes, a better online experience, possibly some sort of mobile port... As long as they don't add microtransactions of any sort, I trust that Rockstar can totally improve GTA IV.

The change of graphics from San Andreas to IV was and still is insane to see. It's no wonder that so many details were put in. Ironic that some of these details aren't in 5. Still, I hope GTA IV can get remastered someday.
I would love this, but after GTA definitive edition, I’m scared they will screw it up.
