      All you need to prove that is have high resolution images in motion and to try to track images/objects on-screen with your eyes. You'll immediately notice bluriness, choppyness at current low framerates and would notice how they would start to become clearer, smoother as the fps & Hz increases.

    6:27 Motion blur is kind of overlooked. I'm still not fully convinced that 360hz compared to the top 240 TN's makes up for the slightly greater amount of motion blur. And how can more vibrant colors create the perception of less motion blur?

    • @marceldiezasch6192
      @marceldiezasch6192 Před 3 lety +2

      I'm going to reserve my judgment of 360 Hz until we see a TN version. If pixels aren't reacting fast enough, there is little way to tell if the very limited to non-existent improvements of this specific monitor are inherent to all 360 Hz monitors.

    • @edfort5704
      @edfort5704 Před 3 lety

      @TacoMeat FijiWater there's plenty of room left to increase refresh rates (and framerates) to where you no longer perceive artificial motion blur caused by insuficient fps&Hz.
      At 1080p res, we can eye-track objects moving at speeds up to around 6000pixels/second on-screen. We need 6000fps&Hz for those objects and images to stay crystal clear and smooth in motion.
      Only beyond that threshold does higher fps&Hz not make anymore sense from a motion-blur-removal-for-the-naked-eye standpoint. Although there may still be other benefits left beyond that (responsiveness/snappyness).
      And, if you want to experience higher resolutions, the requirements get worse: they double as you double the resolution linearly (FHD 1080p to UHD 2160p).
      We're very very far from achieving stellar quality motion images in digital content and displays.

    7:16 the reason being is that your screen uses stroboscopic backlight in the ULMB mode, which means that on average your screen is completely black, and it's being lit up just to show the changes on your screen (ex. try pointing your camera at your screen while at the low motion blur mode). ULMB mode on G-sync would be very hard to implement, as your backlight would have to be constantly synced to your content refresh rate (in short, technological limitations).

      You'd be able to see a night and day difference between 3000Hz and 240Hz, whereas 240Hz > 360Hz is more subtle.
      We're far from achieving human-perceptible limits in content framerates (FPS) and diplay refresh rates (Hz).
      Even at 1080p res, the limits are around 6000 fps & Hz.
      And the more you increase resolution, there higher the limits get (double res (linearly), double the limits of perception)

      First of all, if you're basing everything on specs from a monitor, you're going about it *all* _wrong._ You can't make an argument about what the human eye can do if you're talking about what the monitor can do.
      Highly trained Air Force pilots and other visually "advanced" people have the cognitive ability to see, perceive, and decipher images at a rate of up-to 12 per second. That, and only that, is what matters in this discussion. If you had a monitor, game, and system that could handle putting out 2000 fps at 1600hz, you're STILL only going to see what the limitations of your eyes are.
      Think of your eyes like what they effectively are, a camera. Shake your hand in front of your eyes _really_ fast. Does your hand ever _NOT_ blur? *No,* because your perception of the solid object moving at that speed is hindered by your eyes' ability to translate the data to your brain as a static image (which would give it a solid, non-blurry appearance, even at such speeds). If you used a better camera than your eyes are (like a stop-motion/slo-mo camera), your brain could then interpret the data in such a manner that _maybe_ some of what you said could hold up. *It doesn't.*
      The very *reason* why diminishing returns happen is because our eyes understand only a limited amount of data; data that's _exponentially_ increased by increasing speeds. A very easy analogy for this (and how it relates to hz/fps) is by converting it to a metric you're (hopefully) more inclined to understand: m/hr. If you're sitting still on the side of a highway watching cars pass, it'd be easy to decipher the difference between cars traveling by at speeds of 30, 60, 90, and possibly 120 mph. But if you're facing forward the whole time and only had the perceptible view of straight ahead of you as the cars went by, there'd be a point where you wouldn't be able to decipher the difference between a car going by you at 150 mph and one going by at 210 mph, without having other variables come into play like sound and wind speeds. Monitors don't give off those variables, so you're dependent on the only constants you have; speed and your eyes' ability to perceive it. You're *always* going to get that blurring effect because that's all your eyes are able to understand at those speeds by itself. So yes, diminishing returns *exist.* The _SAME_ way people can tell the discernible difference between cars traveling by at 60mph and 90mph respectively translates to hz, which is *why* people have an easier time deciphering any discernible difference between 60 and 120 hz than they do at speeds above it; the difference between your eyes' ability to tell the difference is *smaller.*
      If it _must_ be translated to "hz" for you to wrap your head around this concept, the human eye is limited (baring any technological improvements to it) to somewhere between 220 and 260hz, which (again) would require training to get _that_ high. So any monitor coming to market with claims of _beyond that_ are *pointless* other to milk morons like yourself for more money.

      @@RAW_Reality You've written a wall of non-sense and stuff that doesn't remotely support anything you may be trying to prove.
      High content framerates and display refresh rates are all about making motion images clear, smooth, snappy and responsive. It's not about crossing some threshold beyond which we no longer detect individual frames.
      The fps & Hz maximum limit at which our own eyes can clearly perceive visual benefits is dictated by what are the fastest moving objects or images on-screen that we can track with our eyes.
      Even at 1080p resolution, we can eye-track objects moving across a display at speeds of up to around 6000 pixels/second. You can easily test that by moving a window of text of any image or object at such speeds across the screen and tracking it with your eyes. You'll see on today's displays how easily they start to blur and smear and become undiscernible.
      Here's an easy way to test this at various speeds: www.testufo.com/#test=photo&photo=toronto-map.png&pps=960&pursuit=0&height=0
      For those objects or images moving at such speeds (6000 pixels/sec) to stay crystal clear, smooth and responsive in motion, we need 6000fps content displayed on 6000Hz screens.
      At 4K resolution, we need double those numbers, as the number of pixels doubles in each direction.
      If we had today displays refreshing at 5000 Hz and PC's running games at 5000fps on them, you would be mind-blown at the difference from current tech: insanely clearer images in motion, smoother, super-responsive and snappy.
      And you'd be able to clearly tell the difference vs. 1000fps&Hz and even easier vs 360fps&Hz. It would be night-and-day in comparison.

      @@edfort5704 Everything that you said is completely based on YOUR EYES. If THEY don't understand "1000 fps/hz", then IT DOESN'T MATTER what your monitor does.
      Hz, FPS, and Pixels/sec are NOT the same thing, so you referring to them as if they're inherently "all that needs to be taken in account for" blatantly shows your ignorance on the topic.

    I feel like you are the only person out of all ther reviews that seem to notice that IPS clarity is advantage itself over TN panel. It is one of the first thing I noticed when my brother bought the Alienware 240hz FastIPS monitor and the clarity alone helps so much easier to track people even if you get a bit more smearing than TN panel which will be hard to notice in gameplay.
    I mainly wanted to get Zowie XL2546K but its $700 here and the Alienware 360hz Black friday sale drop it down to $720 which also lower it down more than ASUS 360hz which is at $950 (Canada) and finally Samsung G7 at $700 for Black Friday
    So yeah order myself the Alienware 360hz. From another review, it appear that it ULMB doesn't darken the screen so it basically on par with Zowie Dyac+
    At my current picking, The Alienware 360hz seem the best overall esport monitor, IPS, HDR, 360hz, 240hz ULMB, Nvidia Reflex Analyzer. It seem the 4 new 360hz monitor will be all similar to each other

      I'm 35 and I can feel slow downs from 144 to 120 fps because input changes. If you play with a pad that filters a lot, like A LOT, of that good speed. What I can distinguish with my eyes is jumps from 144 to 100 and from 100 I can tell 80 and 70 fps. On 60 fps I feel like watching the slowest thing ever. I don't wven bother playing at fixed 60 fps or worse 30. If I can't hack my way at least to 72 I'm not even keeping the game installed.
      Eye sensitivity changes from person to person and from activity to activity. If you are too relaxed you won't see high frame rates. If you are more active, like really excited, you will perceive more and react quicker. Like you can't process how you reacted to an input so quickly that you realized after.

    Aren't effectively visible refresh rates capped by the panel's response time? As in if the pixels don't respond fast enough you're not getting a true 360Hz visible output. From what I gather, IPS panels have historically had problems actually displaying 240Hz outputs due to response times in the past and have only recently reached there. I have a hard time imagining this monitor suddenly making such a leap in IPS response time that 360Hz is truly displayed in practice? Maybe I've misunderstood something.
