Are Turkish Trains Any Good? (Konya to Ankara BUSINESS CLASS) 🇹🇷

  • We've visited quite a few cities in Turkey now and up until now, we've always flown. Most budget airlines in Turkey generally charge $30-$50 USD for a oneway flight to another city. However after this experience we will be taking the train whenever possible. We had no intention on travelling 'business class' (normally called first class throughout Europe) but when we discovered it was only a $1 to upgrade we had to 'lash out' as Hannah said.
    There is also free WI-FI on board and for unknown reasons the Cafe was closed.

    Train or bus travel in Turkey is a great service. Clean, cheap and reliable. You can have nice days in Ankara and maybe from there to Cappadocia. The youtubers "wild viking travel" and "Tread the globe" are there too. Maybe you can get great tips from them. Very nice video of you👍😊

    Board restaurants on YHT high speed trains are currently closed due to covid, hence no service.
    I am a bit surprised that you embarked from the old railway station for conventional trains in Konya, since there is a new high speed train station in operation, along the same route, since 2020. Do you recall if you made a stop at that station?

    • @hgworldtour
      @hgworldtour  Před 3 lety

      Hello Loccus, yes we figured that. We have been on a few trains since we filmed this video and all restaurants are shut. Yes we were wondering about that, it did say we could get on at either stop but we were staying closer to the old railway station. We stopped at the new station, I remember keeping any eye out for it, I would say most people got on at the older station though. Thanks for watching :)

    Regarding baggage checks, this is done with long-distance services in Spain. I understand it was following the 2004 terrorist attacks, even though these targeted local trains.
    China's way of doing things is even more intense. First you have to go through a ticket/ID check. Then you have to go through a baggage check before reaching the departure hall. Then to go down to the platform, you have to go through an automatic ticket gate. At the other end, you have to use your ticket to go through one more ticket gate to exit.

    • @hgworldtour
      @hgworldtour  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for the update, wasn't aware of this for Spain. I'm assuming the Turkish baggage checks were due to 2016? Or perhaps even earlier. I agree about China, it was quite full on. However I would prefer to have the baggage checks done as it gives everyone more peace of mind. Thanks for your input! :)

    • @Da_Big_G
      @Da_Big_G Před 3 lety

      @@hgworldtour, I don't know the situation with Turkey. I wouldn't say I am particularly worried about terrorist attacks on trains, but they mean you have to arrive earlier. I tend to arrive at Spanish stations several minutes before departure and I tend to leave up to 30 minutes for Chinese high-speed stations.
      Have you travelled on the Spanish high-speed system next? This is by far the longest network in Europe and it is set to grow even further, probably in December, when several improvements are due to go into service.
      China is also great for high-speed travel. There are various high-speed routes with breathtaking scenery, e.g. Wuhan-Guangzhou and Shangrao-Fuzhou.

    • @hgworldtour
      @hgworldtour  Před 3 lety

      There was quite a bit of trouble in 2016, many attacks nation wide. Haven't travelled on any high-speed trains in Spain, just on the metro system. Sounds very exciting so we will need to check it out. Thanks for this information. I will also conduct some research on the high-speed trains in China! :)
