honestly i hated how “dumb” they made joey seem, he wasn’t stupid he was just an airhead at times. and honestly he’s one of the most gifted actors on this show, you have to really realize that no one actually ever acts like this in real life so the fact his character is so animated in terms of reactions and characteristics yet comes off realistic/natural is just GOLD 🔥
I never thought he was dumb or stupid. He's an actor, so he's an artist. People in the art world -painting, acting, music, etc - are known for their "off the wall" way of thinking. He isn't logical, he simply thinks differently.
To be fair one of my friends from High School really was that stupid. I like the guy but man I felt my IQ drop Immediately(and I'm already not the sharpest tool in the shed)

I would argue that the side effect of feeling good from a deed doesn't make it selfish. It becomes selfish when that's the only goal or to the detriment of others.
Joey has street smarts so none of these were out of character for him. He's the kind of guy you could just drop anywhere and he'll figure things out.

Also the episode where he absorbs an entire encyclopaedia volume just to feel as smart as his friends is also impressive

The ending of that episode was hysterical though. From Rachel's line "he takes naked pictures of us, then he eats chicken, and then he looks at them!", to Joey getting his sweet revenge and shifting all the blame back to Monica.

I just recently decided to watch Friends again after not seeing it since it ended. I kid you not, I think I bruised my ribs laughing so hard during some episodes! And also…I am old, hence bruising myself from laughing 🤷🏻♀️

Completely disagree with number one. Joey was able to put the pieces together on Monica and Chandler's relationship despite having two clues that he heard in completely different gaps of time. That was impressive.
I also loved the advice he gave Ross when Rachel went on a date, on how to shift his dreams into new ones and know that there was a beautiful baby in the end.
Oh Joey. While I am not the biggest Friends fan, I kmow Joey has had some of the greatest moments.
What about how Joey pretty much invented the term friend zone?
one of the wise moments of JOEY when he was lending money to monica and chandler after chandler quites his job. When monica asked joey to keep that a secret, he almost spilled it to chandler and in that moment he comes up with the answer that even he was surprised. His reaction was " OHH I AM ON FIRE TODAY".

Joey had some really good moments but my favorites are always when he shows concern for his friends. He may have been a "ladies' man" or all about sex but he also had a true compassion for each of his friends.

I thought it was "moo point" instead of "moot point" for years when I was younger. I finally learned it the right way. Then I discovered Friends. To this day I use "moo" instead of "moot" when chatting to Friends fans.

Joey meets a young pregnant woman in a hospital, who is about give birth to the child without the father. Joey feels so sad about her and runs to buy some balloons to cheer her up (he even maybe be the new father). When joey returns to hospital with balloons, finds out the father decide to come to hospital. Joey returns with a bitter sweet feeling on his face. Happy for her, sad for himself.
It was the best scene of joey.
He could have been way better character arc during the whole series. I think thats why matt wanted to make Joey after Friends.
What about the one where poor Joey is accused by being a pervert after Rachel sees him holding a picture of naked Monica, that he just happened to be picking up of the floor right when rachel walks in, then the rest of the gang is questioning it so rotten Chandler and Monica say that Joey is a sex addict, but Joey got them back so good, when he turned the tables on them, especially Monica(yeah)saying that he slept with Monica in London and made Monica look like a freak with all the strange things happening prior. Joey was brilliant here and had such good quick thinking Monica deserved that so much.

Joey is smart about food and sex because of experience. He’s a promiscuous male. Remember the episode where Monica and Chandler got engaged and Joey was going to addition for a19 year old part. Chandler said to him something on the order you have a lot of sex and Joey said some and for an average person he had more in a week then most have in a month. 😂

Yeah, I think the jellyfish sting pee thing has been discredited. I'm pretty sure saltwater is actualy helpful? It should also be readily available since, you know, oceans are where you're most likely to get stung. Vinegar is apparently good too, though not for Man o Wars (which are not actually jellyfish, technically).
The _"__11:30__ on a Wednesday"_ comment was rather biting and on point. It's one of the things about the show that's a bit delusional, or at least very optimistic view of the realities of working for a living. That, and the apparently generous rent control allowing Monica (et al.) to cheaply rent a pretty nice apartment in NYC, even when she wasn't doing well financially. Mind, the apartment/home thing isn't unusual for shows and movies. The crews need a lot of room and places to shoot, so they have the places be more generous than is realistic for the lifestyle of the character(s) in question.
The _"Moo Point"_ is classic 'dumb character making a good point by misinterpreting something' though. If you're arguing with someone who's being particularly difficult/inane and you can replace everything they say with 'Moo' and it has the same level of contribution to the conversation, than they sure are making a 'Moo point' to you at least.
EDIT: Oh, and if I recall correctly Joey wasn't initially intended to be so dim. They just decided early on that the group needed a dimwit type character for that kind of humour.

Actually The vegetarian meat thing with Phoebe being pregnant that wouldn’t happen, because when you been vegetarian for a long time, your body stops producing the enzymes to break down meat so if she was eating the meat, even if she was craving it, she would be immediately throwing it up and possibly causing harm to the child because her body no longer has what it needs to digest that meat. You have to slowly and carefully add meat back into your diet if you’ve been off it a number of years.
Wisdom really is not that dependant on knowledge.
