- Marcus, Rocky, and Kara are heading into the backcountry for the opening weekend of Montana's rifle season. The crew, like most of you, face plenty of challenges on this public land elk hunt. Follow along as they attempt to overcome these obstacles and harvest a bull elk!

To me that looks like a real hunt, with equal measures of hard work, frustration, more hard work, hope and elation. It is great when it goes to the wire gut ends up coming together in the end. Not a massive bull, but the challenge is all that matters. Well done, guys!

Kara the badass! Hikin in solo in the dark in Grizzly country!! Pretty cool! Love th e Llamas. Man that cuts the workload! Especially when you drop some meat! Would love to have some llamas but that's gotta be a future goal! For now the meat, and camp, and gear is gonna still be coming out on the back! Ugh, well good exercise!
Nothing like the public land Warzone! I'll continue to stay with the Old Stick n string and avoid the 15 shots going off at once!

Seriously, though, I am glad there was enough trauma to the spine to drop that bull. A little lower and it would have been all guts and a follow-up shot may have been difficult. Plenty of reason to shy away from lighter cartridges illustrated there. Always a fun hunt to follow when Marcus and Kara are in on the action.
Or... shoot a non magnum and hit him where he should. Plenty reason to shoot something you can accurately.
@@1HeavyHitr Uh-huh... because dudes that hunt elk with .243's never flub their shots. Most already know shot placement is critical and most understand that a .300 WM brings a "margin of error" into the equation that a lighter cartridge simply doesn't have.
Exactly! Cool hunt, he got a bull. But shot placement is critical! I wonder what caliber rifle he used, he also used a tripod, so he aimed there.

I like how early on they mock the other hunters for shooting a small bull saying something like “that’s why they don’t get big…” but then they go and shoot a small bull, in the rear spine.

Say Marcus and Randy. Saw a trick the Maasai use to protect their cattle from Lions. They paint Eyes on the rumps of their cattle. Predator psychology is never attack an animal from the front if they can help it. By painting eyes on the rear ends, the lion doesn't know which end is the rear. It works. I think that grizzlies would be just as confused if you did the same thing with your llamas. Or even you for that matter lol. Look into it Beau it's really good to see you doing great.

Cool kill, it was a nice bull. Couple things, don’t hate on the road warriors on side by sides, sounded a lil jealous in your voice you couldn’t find the road on your map! You need to practice shooting more, I couldn’t believe your shot placement while using a tripod!

Clearly on a tripod it shouldn’t have been that far back on the bull.
