- Marcus is up to bat and the plan is to cover ground and find a mature buck. It's the second and third day of the deer hunt and with the wind howling, the boys struggle to find a buck worth going after. After a slow day, the guys head back to camp to a surprise!

I love deer hunting that sort of country. Not really majestic or a romantic place to shoot a buck, but time after time I have success in such areas.

We had one day this year that was 70mph winds. Blew the truck door off. Never seen wind like that in my life and Iv lived here for most of it. You could pretty much only walk east and had to turn the truck a certain direction to open the doors.

How do you think you going to find deer when your walking so fast and your head down
Hunting in Montana 7 years ago, we found out later that the wind was gusting at 60 mph. Which may be why on a 200+ yard shot, I was hit by a gust and hit the buck in the butt with my first shot. Somewhat dismayed, he took a few steps, I corrected and put the second shot where it belonged. Yeah boy howdy it gets windy there.
NOTHING sucks worse than wind.

I agree. Afraid it might not hurt now, but in 20 years might. Also looks more exaggerated when you are carrying a load. Highly and respectfully hope you have or are looking into so when you are as old as Randy you are still out there hiking and hunting wilderness!

Nerves were damaged beyond repair... I've already come to terms with the fact I will be more of a boat guy later in life. haha
@@MarcusHockett Sorry to hear that, but glad you have looked into anything to help. I wish you many years chasing elk, deer, bears, etc hunting the wilderness. No better medicine than time in the wilderness! Keep up the great content.
Seems like you are trying to outrun the deer with your travel pace. Wildlife do not move that swiftly unless they are alarmed and the speed of your movement would be interpreted by them as alarm. A slower and more cautious approach might reveal more animals before they panic and flee at your swift approach and hilltop exposures.

You'll get wiser with age and will no longer pass on descent animals close to the road.
With that kind of deer country and no deer, something is wrong. There is now way country like that should be that void of life! If I were a Montana resident, I would rather cancel my tag as soon as I got it than to hunt that crap every year. I would b pissed !
