- Singapore has officially confirmed that its enhanced F-16 fighter aircraft are now equipped to launch the Python-5 air-to-air missile, one of the most advanced guided missiles in the world. An information panel displayed during the Republic of Singapore Air Force's 55th-anniversary open house event at Paya Lebar Air Base reveals that the recently enhanced Lockheed Martin F-16 C/D/D+ Fighting Falcons includes Python-5 missiles from Israeli company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems among the weaponry compatible with these aircraft. The Python-5 missile from Israel on Singapore’s upgraded F-16s. Singapore and Israel have maintained a strong defense alliance since Singapore gained independence from Malaysia in 1965, with Israel playing a pivotal role in assisting Singapore in establishing its military capabilities. Singapore is initially upgrading its fleet of 20 F-16D Block 52+ aircraft, with an additional 40 older Block 52 aircraft that were delivered from 1998 onward slated for upgrades in the future.

the RSAF has had the Python-5 for a long time(just did not announce), together with its predecessor the Python-4. And the RSAF also have AIM_9X as well.
SG already have the AIM-9X and both of them are relatively similar in performance.

Singapore already has the AIM-9X, so these should be even more capable for them to switch away.
F-15SG can’t integrate the software with the python so they go with AIM-9X, since they didn’t use any Israel hardware on it. And would be harder to do so

1:29 information is inaccurate. There are different versions of the F16s purchased and the F16I version is twin seat only which is the D+ in RSAF inventory and slightly different from the C/D

Gravity. lol. Those were initially designed for the Sidewinders (AIM-9) but these days it is common to fit the AMRAAM (AIM-120) there instead and the AMRAAMs are a twice as heavy, hence it droops a bit.

one of the leaders when it comes to military technology. the F-16 upgrade plan is actual israeli upgrades take a look at the F-16D barak is was a custom mod which gave birth to the F-16I sufa which is basically what the new F-16 upgrade is.
Singapore would have already been replacing these old birds with f35s if the f35s stop getting lost, spiralling down to crash and sinking to the bottom of the ocean

The AIM-7 had a terrible introduction record where F-4 pilots had to fire all the Sparrow missiles in a ripple fire to get kills on Migs. Python definitely is better than the Sparrow. Not to mention one is fire and forget while the other is semi-active radar guided which requires you to keep your radar on the target before it can track.

which is why they will be getting the F-35B variant which you won't need much of a runway to take off, clear the skies, defend the runways and even if the runways are being destroyed, they can turn their highways into runways.
Singapore is so much more prepared for war than you'll ever think.
Singapore's air bases are a bit tougher than people realize. The British used to store nuclear weapons there as a 2nd strike capability and the runways were hardened to withstand a close nuclear blast so that the V-class bombers could still use them to lift off. It was called Operation Mastodon, you can look it up.
Which is why Singapore has many air bases around the world. Now you know why 😊
