JoJo was a wonderful friend to us and we greatly miss him, he used to say to me " Channel One had a Godley Sound " and there is no doubt about it nothing has ever attained the same sound on playback in Jamaica ever again.

Most of my favorite reggae vinyl goes like this.... Recorded at channel 1 (mainly Roots Radics band), any singer, mixed @ King Tubbys by scientist. I still blast those tunes to this day very loudly and they sound much better than most reggae produced today. Singers from the best Channel 1 period for me (1979 - 1981) include Johnny Osbourne, Barrington Levy, and Barry Brown.

JoJo left Jamaica because of the switch to computer Rythms JoJo was a traditional producer who preferred using live Muscians to build Rythms. JoJo regretted recording the old Studio 1 and Treasure Isle Rythms. But the use of these do over Rythms introduce Studio 1 records to a new generation. 😎

I thought it was Studio One that invented Reggae music. Please research further. The first official Reggae song was " Nanny Goat " by Larry Marshall on Clement Coxxone Dodd's Studio One.

It wasn’t Channel One who invented Reggae but it was Studio One either. Studio One made reggae popular and Channel improved on the sound quality and created their own reggae sound.
