    On June 4th, 5th, and 6th 2020, I made my way to the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad (for the first time) for their first steam excursions of the year. I chased their 2-8-0 1702 on the Nantahala Gorge excursion (1702 marks the 10th steam locomotive I have seen operating). 1702 had a new whistle this year, a replica southern 3-chime. Anyway, We chased 1702 on the entire line all 3 days (getting different locations each day) and on the 4th and 6th, we chased the return trip (led by 711 & 1751). All in all, it was a successful weekend. Enjoy steam on the GSMR!
    *NOTE: The shots in the video are in order by location, not time. Therefore the consist is constantly changing due to different days (each day the consist was different).

    Terrific video --1702 has never looked better. Great production -- one gets a real sense of the operation. Inspiring message for "cooped-up" railfans everywhere. Steam lives!

    Well done...I hate that it basically takes a nap on the return trips but whenever they eventually get this turntable stuff done, I'm sure that will change. Great job!

    The locomotive was built for the US army and saved from the scrapyard. It can still be seen operating on the Great Smokey Mountains railroad.

    Get 722 restored again and have her doublehead with 1702. That’ll be awesome!

      I like your idea but that might not never happen, possibly too good to be true. You really need to look in detail with funding etc.

      @@darriusstrainsthings5736 if 722 wants to be rebuilt. I’m thinking 3 rivers rambler. They have a 4-4-0 that could be traded.

    Is that a smart new 3 chime steam whistle I hear

    Also apparently the crossings at the Bryson city depo fail to action but all the other crossings ( the ones with lights and bells) work perfectly and another thing is during the trip we had to stop for a sound problem I would be appreciate if some one could tell me what is a sound problem please and thank you

    Why does 1702 have a new whistle instead of a old one

    • @Heisler91
      @Heisler91 Před 4 lety +2

      One of their shop guys built it from plans of a real Southern Railway Steptop 3 chime. Sounds much better than that other Ps4 copy.

      Jarrett Prince and I know why 1702 needs a new whistle because they want to change things up and so they can test it out

      That Southern Steptop 3 Chime on 1702 sounds like a PRR and CNJ 3 Chime mix altogether.
