I do nothing on social media aside from throwing an occasional CZcams video by someone else on Twitter then do any horse related business on Facebook as quickly as possible then stay off them for a week to a few months. I admit I like CZcams where I can find a wide variety of videos many subjects.

I remember explaining FB to my then 90 year old mom about 15 years ago. She understood it perfectly: "So it's like those Christmas letters I get from people I haven't seen since college boasting about how much more successful and attractive their grandkids are then mine, only instead of once a year I'm supposed to read this stuff every day?!"

My ears perked up when I heard about all the lovely pot plants but I've been bored to tears ever since. I think it's time to watch something else unless this improves very soon. Maybe we could get back to the pot plants or something? Some mushrooms maybe?

P.J. O’Rourke's things seems to be to collect Conservative memes and then write books that pander to them with clever but useless jokes and comments.

Lives in rural New England.....and does things like this....in San Francisco. Claims to be Liberterian....and I hadn't listened to his B.S. since the election, so I thought I'd come and see if Trump has fully educated him yet. After discovering his folley about Trump, he tried to escape into economics....a subject he knows even less about then politics. So now.....detachment is his thing. okay.

5:33 - I know nothing about business ... and yet his whole career is based on supporting Conservatives for their business acumen ... that he admits he does not even understand. That is why I think his books and point of view are useless ... he is a clever ship with good hair for a man his age. Now about the time only I see him, since I read a couple of his books and decided to avoid him, is when he appears on Bill Maher. He just never shuts up and keeps interjecting irrelevant and dumb jokes, and cannot really comment unless he has a re-rolled joke up his sleeve. But his act of know it all superiority that Republicans seem to respect and have down so well in terms of faking, is what appeals to conservatives. Notice, the Commonwealth Club will have this guy on and let him speak and have his say, but you never see the opposite. If you see, for example, Michael Moore, on a Right-wing show it is always attack, name-call, insult and attack. That alone tells you the right and wrong of the right and left .. and the Left is right. Which actually Michael Moore proves in his new movie ... America is a Liberal nation, and the right wing has to work very hard and spend lots of money, and spew lots of lies to keep us from realizing that. The longer it take the worse life in America gets ... and somehow the people don't really get this.

justgivemethetruth Why did you watch this then? The commonwealth club is an inherent conservative organisation- you say you avoid watching Bill Maher when PJ is on. Why not avoid him entirely when he is key note speaker in a video? that way your delicate sensibilities won’t be hurt and we can enjoy PJ’s humour without having to come across some grubby whiny left wing apologist knob like you. Your a Michael Moore fan. Makes total sense.

Plenty of progressives on conservative venues from Gutfeld to Ben Shapiro and given far more respect than conservatives on say college campuses who are simply shouted down by the Brownshirt/Red Guards of the Left. Actually the key difference between Left and Right is that, aside from a few loons on social media, conservatives tend to think progressives are well meaning but wrong whereas progressives think anyone who could possibly disagree with wonderful wonderful them must be evil - motivated solely by RACISM!!! TRANSPHOBIA!!! GREED!!! etc.

More realistically is that Conservatives are obsessed with branding Progressives in a bad way where Progressives are more concerned with the actual issues.
You never hear any actual vision or policies except tax cuts and destroying the public space from Conservatives.
You rarely hear anything buy name calling and contempt from Conservatives expressed towards Progressives. While they is occasionally some germ of truth to the criticism, the criticism is never done in a productive way, so it is useless, and only betrays the lack of integrity and character from Conservatives.
Conservatives do not seem to be able to deal with reality, or democracy anymore. They have a mechanistic ritual of attack, attack, attack and stigmatizing people personally because they can never rationally discuss the facts or deal with people's rights.

@@justgivemethetruth Tax cuts are not really much of an issue for modern conservatives although we would roll back the Biden administration increases if we retake Congress and the White House. I actually agree with you that conservatives like progressives are all too often more interested in screaming at our opponents than rationally engaging them. Politics has never been bean bag as was said but our political discourse has become increasingly nasty and lunatic. Long long ago in a galaxy far far away I once worked in Silicon Valley back when we really believed that we were helping to create a real life version of the old Mad Men era Coke commercial (written by Don Draper after dropping acid and going to Esalon as I recall) where we'd all be holding hands at Big Sur singing together. It literally breaks my heart to see the world the new technology has actually helped to build. I also agree conservatives have become much too reactive, howling at the latest "outrage" rather than presenting a positive agenda for the future. This is somewhat understandable since in my Boomer lifetime progressives have nearly completed their Long March through the Institutions and pretty much control all of American institutions - government (especially the permanent government of the Civil Service which is now far more powerful than the elected representatives who don't seem to have any interest in or skill at legislating and prefer to make sound bites and hold endless Show Trial investigations of their opponents while leaving bureaucrats to make most real decisions) academia, the entertainment industry, even now Corporate America and the Pentagon (at the flag level at least). Still it is unhealthy. To oversimplify what modern conservatives want is traditional liberalism which as it name implies is all about individual liberty. We believe in freedom of speech rather than a world in which young people in particular are encouraged to believe they somehow have a right to never have to read or hear anything that might irritate them. We believe in freedom of religion, period. As a gay man I have obvious issues with the Abrahamaic faiths but I simply can't imagine using the power of the state to force an Orthodox, Baptist or Sunni baker to make my wedding cake. We believe that like democracy politically free market capitalism is economically the worst system except for all the rest. No one wants to go back to the days of hiring nine year old boys to squeeze into the mineshaft to plant the dynamite while their sisters went blind doing needlework but generally speaking the less regulatory meddling in the economy the better. We want our youth taught the truth about the dark side of our history (slavery, Jim Crow etc.) but we don't want that to be all they are taught or the center of what they are taught (BTW no better example of the failure of socialism then US Reservation System). I have gone on long enough but a free and (yes) color blind society tolerant of differences is basically what we want.

To give you the benefit of the doubt, any Republican who says that Republicans want some kind of rational outcome ( that is never explained or any vision or mission statement ) is not speaking for "we" but telling us about their own delusions.

Not surprised O Rourke turned away from politics. After all, with his support of the right he helped create the abominations of the Bush and Trump administrations. It must have been pretty hard to look at the consequences of his actions in the eyes
