Obviously something more to it. My problem with this squad for the longest time is that they need to be cajoled by Klopp into putting in 100%, and even then they'll still concede clumsy opening goals in the first half
The standard at City is perfection. Our standard is to do no more than what's required, and our performances over a sustained period of time back that up. We are far too rough around the edges. It's very rare to catch City sleepwalking through games the way we're quite routinely capable of.

Buvac was gone and Ljinders had only just checked in. Ever since 2020 we've relied on silly auxillary tactics and been a much structurally weaker team.

Not having Jota available is a far bigger loss than I'd imagined. He's our most clinical forward and that's our biggest issue up front at the moment.
I love Diaz and Nunez but they are not clinical enough at the moment. The more that goes on I feel the great the frustration of it happens. It adds unwanted pressure to score.
This result had been coming for a while but the timing of it doesn't help either. A big result is needed against Palace at the weekend. Really need Jota back too.

    • @_sayan_roy_
      @_sayan_roy_ Před měsícem

I said when Jota was injured that the season is looking to be over. A low IQ guy slated me in the chat by claiming that we are top of the league and in all comps without realizing what I was talking about. People really do not understand truly the value of goalscoring even though that's what the game is about. Many want to feel intellectual by going in favour of dribblers and registas against so called stat merchants. But they don't realize Diaz is not a regista like Pirlo nor a dribbler like Messi. And it's not that players like Jota do not work hard and have other elements.
And I am not saying that Jota is fool proof solution. He needs other clinical teammates with better final third decision making but even Salah is falling short there. I think Nunez is better than Diaz and can be utilized on the left wing more rather than centre as he is not a finisher. This is another thing which I said earlier. Also, other clinical teammates help because Jota anyways would have off days and even more likely now since he came back from injury.

    • @manendraviper

This season was a pretty successful midfield refresh. Next season HAVE to be an attack refresh.
Diaz and Nunez cannot be relied upon to finish chances. They cannot even score one v ones consistently.
Salah can finish but his legs appear to be gone.
Jota can finish but he is unavailable for half a season.
Gakpo has some ups and downs he sometimes starts very well and was a time he was very poor and admitted himself l see him like Minamino type of player in Liverpool no disrespect good in cup games
This means that all of them are potentially substitute quality, and new blood that are starters have to come in, just like how we got in the new midfielders. It's going to be harder since attackers are pricier, but hopefully we get at least one value for money gem, much like Macca was.

My other problem for the longest time is that our core tactics and structures have kind of sucked since 2020. We've relied on auxillary tactics like highline offside traps, Trent at inverted RB, and now second half substitutions, to get us through games.
Our game has gone tactically downhill ever since Ljinder's authority grew on the team. When we won the UCL and PL, Klopp had a lot more footprint on the way we played.
We don't have a strong core defensive structure, we don't seize control of games, and we don't have reliable forwards outside Mo and Jota. We sleepwalk many games and think we can just stumble over the finish line because we're Liverpool and we can.
We aren't winning the EL and we probably aren't going to win the PL if we are being frank with ourselves, because we just aren't them right now.

I think fatigue between these matches every 3 days shouldn't be underestimated, before the international break from 25 Feb to 17 March we had 7 games, Arsenal had 4, City had 5.
For me today's result is a combination of tactics but also fatigue. Liverpool have not been as good tactically since Buvac left in 2018
Interestingly in 2020 Buvac said that "By and large for all these 18 years [with Klopp] I felt myself in charge" (Source: This Is Anfield).
I also think it's relevant to mention the 3-0 result is an important reality because something is wrong and there's a reason for it, accepting it is important
Today with a better football mind in the tactics department things wouldn't have resulted in 3-0 and the fatigue of players between matches this season would be better managed
Back in 17/18 in our first CL campaign against Man City both legs, and Roma first leg when we went 5-0 up it showed unreal elite tactical understanding. But before the second leg against Roma, Buvac had left the club, and that didn't go well.

Can't have your star striker miss golden chances every game and win trophies, Darwin has officially crossed the line with his lack of finishing for me. 1v1 with keeper and the dink not even close, to think "that's alright he'll get another chance" is unacceptable at this level and at this stage of these competitions. Not all Darwin at all, but that fact can't be skimmed over anymore

We had players been crap before and at no point did we ever feel that they would be moved on cos they are klopps boys and a quick hug and its all forgotten
We need a mqnagement team in here that will hold players accountable, and if it's not happening, they are moved out and replaced

Arrogant with his team selection and overly emotional with his subs. CBS playing short passes to each and the gk. then going long. Make no mistake the players were shite. But Klopp is the main reason for this defeat. Utterly embarrassing and disgraceful performance off the back of that United one. The teams confidence is gone. They’re bottling it.

Passing awful for a while, attack absolute shite, counter attacking, our bread and butter, we are the worst counter attacking team right now, in the league and elsewhere, we move the ball too slowly, I mean soooooo slowly its comical, no player chemistry, constantly over hit it during passing, every player we rely on has dipped in rent times in their performance, at the most crucial time our form haas dipped, absolutely infuriating. We never look comfortable, can't keep clean sheets, make mistakes every single game that lead directly to goals, we got lucky for a while but not any more, now mistakes result in goals, and all has been true for a while, before utd fa cup game and especially after. This team does not look like a team, it looks like players that just met and started playing with each other. Maddening, absolutely pathetic.
