Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul aka he Who Spoils and it's time to get into our Kangsters paradise with Loki Season 2.
Things are heating up in a jonathan majors way and we're finally starting to learn more about the big bads backstory. Throughout this video we're gonna be breaking down season 2 episode 3 and discussing all the easter eggs, hidden details and things you missed. Now as always we begin with the marvel studios logo however there's a major difference to the music here.
Played out on an old timely piano this instantly puts us in the mood for where we'll be heading. That is Chicago in the year 1868 on the sacred timeline. Here we join Ravonna Renslayer who from her perspective has just stepped through the doorway at the end of season 1.
Now this is a big change up from how Kang is in the comics with the Victor Timely persona even being changed slightly too.

I'm still thinking someone is going to be revealed to be a robot, perhaps unknowingly. The show has been hinting it from the start. Heck, I'm thinking maybe Miss minutes later became Ravonna, and her looks have been taken from a Ravonna variant. But more likely, it's Oroborous. I'm thinking that at some point, Miss minutes has gotten a body, an is running around as someone we know. Or a variant of Miss minutes

I'm gonna say, I think revona and mobious used to be a couple before the TVA. Last episode was about remembering mobious past and how it could've been good. Then this episode we get their argument as they walked and talked about how they USED to be good together and when they met up, Kang was in the middle of them.
The refrigerator chair is actually super significant! Refrigeration/air conditioning was a difficult technology to figure out because while heating things up is easy, cooling them down is hard! Ravonna is unimpressed, but the people of his time would be astounded. Cooling requires reversal of entropy within a closed system which slows/reverses the effects of TIME(: Kang being the inventor is also a nod toward this technology irl being invented by a Black man named Fredrick McKinley Jones. Incredibly layered scene.
This is also why he brags that the chair can COOL her cushion rather than bragging about seat warmers.

Duuuude, that was bizarre. She just become a predator out of nowhere. Definitely did not see that coming. Rubbed me absolutely the wrong way ick.
Theory time: the original he who remains is a scientist from the future like he said he was in season one. When he remade the mcu into the sacred timeline, he placed a version of himself in it as a sort of insurance policy if they ever needed a new Kang to restart the multiversal war and eventually come back into power, but purposefully planted him in a time where the technology limited him, preventing him from doing it without external help. I really feel like there was something more to him constantly bringing up how his current time period was the only thing keeping him from his full potential

Oh I fucks with it!
Remember when we first met He Who Remains at the end of season 1 and he gives his backstory? He says there were variants along with himself that worked for peace even though they were selfish or whatever, and then there were the variants who were conquerors and started the war. He Who Remains was just the one that ducked off, found Alioth, weaponized it, and ended the war.....but he wasn't the ONLY variant fighting for "harmony". He didn't kill em all, only the "Kang" types, and even tells team Loki "If you think I'm the devil, wait until you meet my variants."
This definitely works knowing every variant wasn't his enemy/threat and there was a squad of em building together while preventing incursions

You know what I think?? I think that Victor Timely is not HWR but instead Kang The Conqueror.
What's gonna happen is that after he conquers everything, he will place a version of himself IN THE FUTURE as a failsafe so that he DOESN'T have to struggle with tech at first, and to conquer things sooner and faster to become The Conqueror. But what ends up happening is that THAT Kang in the future actually ends up using his tech to eventually find Kang The Conqueror, defeating Victor Timely and become HWR, who then places a version of himself in the past as a failsafe. And the loop repeats itself
My favorite part of the episode was the very last scene, LOVED how they don't show Miss Minutes's face yet you can 100% hear the smile as she says 'But it's gonna make you reeeeeal angry'. Miss Minutes is LOVING this moment and it's scary as hell.
Jonathan’s performance as Victor was brilliant. He brought of emotional innocence with a little touch of mischief to the performance. Ravonna was great and I really loved Miss Minutes. But we have to shoutout the production and costume design this episode. Those shots and sets of the World’s Fair was amazing and Ravonna’s costume during the Fair was really good.
I didn’t think they’d do the Ravonna and Victor Love from the comics but they did it well, also how dare they leave us on a cliffhanger like that. What was she gonna tell her?
I’m guessing it’s how Kang kept her far away due to how she got killed every time he loved her and was with her

Maybe it's a dumb idea, but maybe Ravonna in her original timeline was a teenage Kang's school principal. He kidnapped her from her own timeline to keep her permanently in the TVA. She wasn't a variant, he just had the hots for her. That could make her angry at him.

Jonathan's performance was amazing. They clearly wanted him to appear sly con man, and he has a stuttering issue, which i think is a great representation
The budget was spent very well in this episode. I'm impressed, and this is exactly what MCU fans want to see - good use of the money that we invest in this universe with a storyline that keeps us awake.
I’m already lost. I don’t follow everyone’s motivations. Renslayer and Loki want the same thing but they’re fighting. Renslayer wants Kang to rise but also wants to kill him, which also what Sylvie wants but they’re fighting . Sylvie wants to kill Renslayer but she doesn’t.

I really want mobius to be the one to prune loki. He was so heartbroken in the first episode when he thought he couldn’t save his friend, it would be nice to see him find loki in the finale so he can have a more active role in saving him from time slipping and we can see that come full circle.

I know right, because let's be honest, it will be too predictable if the one that prune Loki is Loki himself. I was even more expecting it to be Sylvie at first, but Mobius doesn't sound bad
I'd note that the 1893 time period Loki went to is a branched timeline, meaning the Kang at that point is technically a variant, rather than the main 'Kang' of the sacred timeline.
This show continues to get better and is by far the best Marvel content we have gotten in a long long time
It starts off as the Sacred Timeline before Ravonna jumps ahead, then it becomes a branched timeline. Since HWR controlled the Sacred Timeline, maybe he placed his younger self somewhere he would be limited by technology essentially making him harmless. In the Sacred Timeline he is just a dreamer. Renslayer created a branch by giving him the TVA book so that means it is probably not HWR's original origin
If this is true the only way this could happen is if the TVA was in chaos because they would have detected it
This is what I’m thinking.
Because in Loki season 1 they do state he’s from the 31st century originally, so it doesn’t make sense this would be his original origin.

I love by the end you really feel in Victor's place. Caught in the chaos of everything. Got a magic man wanting to take you to the future, a magic woman wanting to slit your throat, a weirdly horny ai cartoon clock, and a crazed woman wanting control at any cost. All the while hearing that you do terrible things and become a terrible person.

I really like that miss minuites and ravonna are the bad guys so far this season, I always thought miss minuites had evil intentions.
I think it is brilliant that Miss Minutes is not just some cute cartoon with AI. It is AI that is way too advanced for humans' good.
I thought this was another brilliant episode from Loki this season! This is what Disney Plus shows should strive to be across the board! This exciting and this entertaining!

Then I end up being interested even more, then research, and then find out allot of interesting stuff myself. OB's name suggest that too. He learned all the TVA stuff from TVA and then made the guidebook which then inspired Kang to make TVA itself. Its all a loop.
I liked the portrayal of victor, we haven’t seen a version of Kang before he experiences the true things that make him become that terrifying figure. They showed him with the time travel chair tho and you do see the potential for his character after that opening introduction

I think timely is within a branch here that will always occur. This timeline doesn't prune. Instead, ravona creates a paradox that allows timely to reach his potential as he who remains. I think he created this timeline from a branch so he can create a loop in the TVA
But the title says sacred timeline

In terms of his voice I just assumed it was a byproduct of the time period. Anti-literacy laws in the 1800s were as such that Victor’s formal education options were grim if not entirely non-existent. It’s likely his sole form of education was the TVA handbook. From there he was a seemingly reclusive inventor so in that sense, the stuttering, the not always making eye contact, all of those things, to me, rang true because of those factors. The greater comfort with his words that he seemed to attain throughout the episode, again imo, added to the presentation.

Victor Timely has the same speech pattern as Immortus from the Quantumania post credit scene, and the whole "no partners" thing makes sense since Immortus was the leader of the Council of Kangs.

I felt this weeks episode was a little slower in places than previous episodes. I did like how Loki's Chicago clothes had some green in them.
I honestly loved this episode, I loved Jonathan Majors acting and his storyline this episode. It showed us more about him and I’m curious what’s going to happen next, like is he gonna betray everyone at the end or is this variant different and has a heart? I just found so interesting as well that they showed us more of the relationship between miss minutes and him! Never thought for a second that she was in love with him! That was a twist lmao

I think OB has always existed. He is like the book in the bootstrap paradox. He has no beginning and no end and the TVA exist within his universe.

I don't believe this Victor Timely is He Who Remains. In the beginning, when we see Renslayer arrive to drop off the book, the subtext says "Sacred Timeline". When Loki and Mobius arrive, it says "Branched Timeline". Idk maybe I'm crazy, or it was an editing error.
The sacred timeline might be a conversion of the branched one Ravonna made when she dropped the book, where she creates a paradox that ensures Timely is the variant who ends up as He Who Remains. Do we know for sure that the sacred timeline was the first original timeline? Or is it just the timeline where the winner of the Kang war was from? Because if that’s the case then He Who Remains could most certainly have overtrown another Kang variant and inserted his own timeline as the sacred one and further creating said paradox to make sure he always stays in power.

When it comes to variants, we've seen how there are some shared traits among them (loki w/trust issues, spidey w/tragedy, strange having trouble 'sharing the knife', etc).
With the kang variants, I wonder if the shared trait there is loneliness. HWR, the conqueror and timely, for all their smarts or power, they seem to be kind of sad behind all of it.
I see Kang as Tony but as villain. Too smart for his own good. Wanting to control everything, thinking its for the best, endless curiosity for pushing the boundary of science. Becoming God like through use of tech. Becoming obsessed with his work, having an ego clearly. Struggling to work in a team or partnership, at least at first. Both have an AI capable of evil. They are very similar it's uncanny.

I think we actually see Timley in the TVA in E1, shortly before Mobius and Loki have their talk in the hallway. No time stamp i can recall.
Loki season 1 was my favorite marvel show and this season already has a stronger start then last season imo.

Oroborus is a miss minutes type ai that kang actually did give a body. Because he needed him to be able to interact with things to be able to fix them. But they were compartmentalized so he would always end up with full control.

Literally my theory. I noticed he seems unemotional, like he doesn't get certain social cues. "We are all gonna die! Nice to meet you" Seems a bit non human. He takes some things said literally, that a programme would do if they don't get emotional context. I'm almost certain he's an android now. Hence why his memory isn't wiped as he's the bank of knowledge. He said he runs diagnostics too probs as a back up for miss minutes.

@26:14 If you pause the video at this exact moment, you see a still shot of Oroborous walking away from his red elevator seat as it ascends back up. I could be reaching here, but the seat looks like devil horns on the sides of his head, which could later foreshadow Oroborous being the villain of the show.
Oroborus is an AI with a body. Calling it. He has a great memory, doesn't sleep, eat or use the bathroom from assumption. If all TVA agents were Androids it would stack up even more. In terms of they are a clone of their variants.
You just made a great point I needed to tie O.B into the story of being a villain. He needs temporal energy of it's creator, he wrote the book, he himself is the creator. O.B had Loki and Mobius bring Kang to him for...revenge?

O.B. is a Kang Variant? Would save them having to find some to recast. I wanna know more about O.B. because with so many extremely smart people within the MCU, couldn't he be someone important? Like say a Reed Richards variant?
If OB is the villian I want to know who at Marvel, when asked, "Who should we get to play the villian in season two of Loki" popped out the name Ke Huy Quan, because that was one messed up jump.
My theory is that Ravonna is a Kang variant. Why not? There's a female Loki variant.
I think all the workers at the tva n even ms minutes are all variants of kang but the "good" ones
I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the TVA's story about the Multiversal War is partially true and that He Who Remains won the war with the help of an other Kang variant (Ravonna) plus Miss Minute (3 entities like the Time Keepers) to just betrayed them all at the end because he wanted to be alone on the throne. By brainwashing Ravonna into an obedient pawn and keeping Miss Minute from being truly free by not giving her a body

Here is my theory on what secret Ms Minutes knows about Ravonna. What if He Who Remains transferred/transfers the consciousness of Ravonna into the Ms Minutes AI he created/creates before he wiped/wipes Ravonna's mind and sent/sends her to the TVA.
Also, I liked Majors' portrayal of Victor Timely. It was like the Nutty Professor meets the Wizard of Oz. It will be interesting to see how Timely evolves/evolved into HWR.
You missed the fact Rama-Tut was in Ant Man 3. He was referenced again after Moon Knight.

Im very upset we didnt get to see the tandem bike ride.
I felt like the stuttering was all part of his geeky persona to make “investors” think he was a harmless nerd and then he runs off with their money. At the end of the day he was a con man and it was part of the act. That is why he got better toward the end of the show. And if he is a con man now maybe he always was and OB was really the brains behind the operation and they are going to figure it all out.

It's the fact that he's so content with his job which is unnerving. All other workers seem to be more emotional and want to know about their life. He seems unemotional. Like he's either an android, some bad guy behind the scenes or something else..
@Natta44 his facade should show some crack, at least foreshadowing for the audience, but he hasn't shown any signs of fowl play or emotional slippage.

Another good episode, but I felt as though Loki got very little screen time. Understandable Victor / Kang needed to be developed.

I agree with Paul that the Victor variant was a little hard to warm up to at first. When I saw what an epic grifter he was, I got why he was doing that in the role. At that time in history, Black men were seen as unintelligent and mistraling was expected. So to see someone so cunning playing his audience that way made sense. I think this version of Kang is particularly dangerous and he’s playing them all.
Loki seeing his dad and brother with Balder was heartbreaking. Seeing that he was overlooked and the grief of seeing them. The swift turn to say Thor wasn’t that tall was a definite throwback to their rivalry but still soften to show Loki misses him. Appreciated the Balder Easter egg too.
Hiddleston continues to deliver an epic performance that deserves many awards.

You can tell that Victor is an ok guy who just wants to do his best or at least that's what we see as of now. Don't get me wrong he is far from perfect but the people around him just want to use him, especially Ravonna.

Since Ravonna was on the sacred timeline in her first visit, then on a branched one in the second, and I might be completely overthinking it here, but I was thinking:
Couldnt technically the sacred timeline be a conversion of the branched one Ravonna made when she dropped the book, in which she creates a paradox that ensures Timely is the variant who ends up as He Who Remain? Do we know for sure whether the sacred timeline was the first original timeline? Isn’t it just the timeline where the winner of the Kang war was from? Because if that’s the case then He Who Remains could most certainly have overthrown another Kang variant and inserted his own timeline (the branched one Ravonna made) as the sacred one and further creating said paradox to make sure he always stays in power. Which makes my head spin.
Ms Minutes’s secret might be that Kang found and kidnapped Ravonna from a timeline where she was another Kang variant’s teacher and trapped her as a puppet in his eternal paradox. Or she might also be a female Kang variant that He Who Remains grew fond off the same way Loki did towards Sylvie and therefore kept her around.
Either way VERY interesting season so far!

Knowing what we know about the 'Sacred Timeline', its a pathway curved out for time to follow to prevent the possibility any Kang Varient other than Victor Timely, who will become He Who Remains to be created. This is why they called him the "He Who Remains Varient", firstly, because they don't know he actually becomes He Who Remains, but secondly because he actually is a variation from the Original Kang the Conqueror we saw in Quantumania who was actually called Nathaniel Richards and was probably from the 31st Century.
Victor Timely, in my opinion, is probably a "What If Kang was born in the 1800s rather than the 31st Century" a variation of the original Kang called Nathaniel Richards.
Thats my theory anyway.
Even if the TVA exploded couldn’t Loki timeslip and do something to restore it in the past? I’m assuming we will see the destruction of the TVA and Loki passing on information to OB in the past to save them all. Thus fulfilling the Loki ragnorak mythos of the ending of everything leading to a new beginning, and Ouroboros being the snake eating it’s own tail being a metaphor for the same thing.
The TVA is outside of time, and they wouldn't be able to time jump to a past TVA if it gets destroyed

That would mean that "Our" Kang variant is Victor Timely. If he becomes HWR is yet to be discovered.
Ravonna giving him the book created a branch (That was conveniently not pruned because the TVA is in the mud right now... interesting. Food for thought), but I dont think this was THE creation of all Kangvariants, because that would imply that Victory Timely is not only the Kang for our universe but also the Original one, which would contradict the story about the original being a Scientific from 31st century.
