The most immediate cancel for me is when a passenger demands, before I even get there, "Please drive faster I AM ALREADY LATE!" Let me put you out of my misery.

Seriously… I had a woman who lived near me go back & forth between the Uber & Lyft app cancelling and requesting over & over, not realizing I was the only driver out at that time of the morning… She would be running late every day for work until one day I just cancelled on her & stopped taking requests from her location… And to make matters worse she had a nasty attitude… Smh

Destination filter on, and a ride request comes in for pick up eight+ miles is the wrong direction, and drop off even further away. Cancel.

Not showing up on time within 5 minutes and in the car, appearing to be a minor with no ID to verify your age, not having a car seat with a child under a certain age riding, attempting to bring 5 when 4 is the maximum, & not coordinating with drivers when we arrive at pickup will get you cancelled in my book. Two simple rules: don't get me sick and don't trash my car. With the recent heavy rain in south Florida, I had two people standing outside in the rain getting absolutely soaked. They would have soaked the inside of my car. No thanks. Open food and drinks, too easily spilled. A guy recently had a wrapped up sausage and onion sandwich. Reasons i cancel
    1. If i take a short ride, I will give you 2 minutes and not a second more to be outside and ready. The 4-6 minutes it takes me to get to you is more than enough time.
    2. If i accept the ride and you make changes like updating destination, CANCEL. I get these alot when im on my way to pick up and get notification you've made a change.
    3. If its a short trip and i see any type of preference "cool temperature ", "quiet prefered" , CANCEL. You dont pay enough to be requesting preferences.
    3. If you're messaging me for instructions, and you dont use either "please" or "thank you", good luck. Automatic cancel.

Low rating, undesirable pick up or drop off location, low pay per mile/minute, are reasons to just not even accept the ride in the first place. If all of those criteria are satisfied and I accept a ride, these are some of the things that will make me cancel: multiple messages en route, adding extra destinations before I even get there, sketchy names, not being at the actual pick up spot and wanting me to come find you, being at a congested choke point pick up spot, smoking when I pull up, having open food when I pull up, having an open alcoholic beverage, having kids without a car seat, having pets (not service animals, but pets), being visibly drunk, having cargo that looks like it'll damage my car or cause a mess, and probably more that I can't remember. Things riders do that will earn themselves a 1 star rating: have a bad attitude, smell bad, create a mess, add extra destinations without even asking, change the destination to someplace unreasonably further away, demand to take over the music for a 3 minute ride, take too long to get in the car, refuse to buckle up, vape in my car, talk politics, be racist, or just be generally annoying. There are plenty of other scenarios that will draw the ire of rideshare drivers not listed here. So, just be a normal, respectful, decent human and you'll be just fine. If not, you're either not going to get a ride, get canceled on repeatedly, or get a crappy rating.

Any pickup in a congested area after a sports game and they are standing right at the venue gates, that is a cancel. They need to walk a few blocks away so I am not stuck in pickup traffic for half an hour. I tell this to passengers whenever I drop off at the stadium so they know what works best for both of us at the end of the night. They usually appreciate the information because they wont be standing around for an hour hoping that a driver will accept their trip.

  • @veganjem

I have had people "update" the pick up or drop off location repeatedly. Also if its late night and I am tired.. and they get the ride, then add a stop, am not doing! Last night I cancelled on someone.. She was sitting down when I arrived, and needed two men to help her walk. I said.. OH NO! not in my car!! If a person cant walk, I drive! If a person refuses to tell me their name..I cancel!!! I have had so many people shocked that they yank, yank and yank on my car door.. then they come to the window looking confused. I tell them I must veify you.. to hear you say your name and see if there is attitude attached. Its amazing to me how many drivers leave their doors unlocked.

  • @geekforlife003
    @geekforlife003 Před 2 měsíci +7

Been driving for Lyft and Uber for close to 8 years now.
Learned very quickly early on to treat my car as my office with my radio playing jazz (elevator) music.
It's okay to ask to listen to whatever music the customer wishes to listen to; but, more often than not, my radio is for my entertainment, not for my customer. Especially when it's music I refuse to tolerate like most rap music.
I have stickers in my windows forbidding eating, drinking, and smoking in my car. Where customers get this idea that they have a right to eat in my car is beyond me. And it's a shame that I have to talk about something that ought to be common sense; that it's rude and disrespectful to eat or drink in my car without asking for my permission. That's like me doing whatever I want in that person's place without asking for their permission.
On longer trips (an hour or longer) I will allow eating and drinking (except for alcohol, of course; since open carry alcohol is illegal in most states). Even on shorter trips, have enough respect for the driver and his/her property if it's okay first to eat anything, whether it's a bag of chips or a sandwich.
The very first time a customer attempts to smoke or vape in my car; I pull the car over, end the trip, and put him or her out immediately; or I call the police if he or she refuses to leave after the trip has been ended. I will not tolerate that at all.
And the customer does not have the right to my passenger seat unless there's a party of three or four. I don't know what it is about these customers who don't keep their hands to themselves whenever they sit beside me. Don't touch anything except for the visor if the sun is blinding. Not my radio, not my glove box, and don't touch me.
There is a bad teaching going on around the campus of the University of Florida that women should be insisting on the drivers to tell them the name of whoever it is they're picking up from the bars, etc. This is wrong. I'm all for women protecting themselves; and yet, drivers need to protect themselves as well. Too many young women are too lazy or self absorbed to do their due diligence before getting into a rideshare car. I leave my doors locked and introduce myself first, then I'll ask the young woman for her name. If she insists that I tell her who I'm picking up while she's tugging on my door handle, I simply tell her that I'm not there for her, especially when, more often than not, I have no profile picture of her so I can correctly identify her, while she has all of my information. Because she won't take a few seconds to check my license plate to see if it matches what's on her app, I just sit there and collect a no-show fee.
There have been too many instances of people either getting free rides because the driver isn't doing his/her own due diligence; or drivers getting hurt or worse.
Customers, stop asking the drivers who they're picking up; that's none of your business. Ask for the driver's name while checking the plate number and make and model of the car BEFORE you get in. Drivers, keep your doors locked until you are certain you have the right person.

Right! If your rating is below a 4.8 I will not accept the rides that is an automatic red flag for me that you are questionable even rides below a 4.9 are questionable, if you are messaging me about what is taking me so long before I get to you I definitely cancel the ride, after I accept the ride if I see a name that doesn't look like a real government name I will cancel the rides, and if I get to you and I receive attitude from you before you even get in the car I will cancel the ride I don't want the extra attitude.
Last but definitely not least if you live and or want to get picked up in a bad area me as a female I'm definitely not accepting that ride.
I almost forgot if I'm on the way to get you and I see you've added a stop or several stops I will definitely cancel. If I pick you up and you ask me can we stop I will tell you if you don't add it to the app I can't stop that automatically stops these cheap riders from adding them. I'm not doing this for free.

4.2 or less = A 1* ride every 5 rides: I cancel 😊. Under 4.6 = A 1* ride every 10 rides: I get cautious. Uber tricks me into taking out of area and/or less than my £/$ per mile minimum: I probably cancel. Late, no seatbelt, adding multi stops without asking, eating/drinking, sick... you're not getting 5* from me. Scoring passengers helps warn drivers about what they might be getting into...

I had Uber cancel two rides on my behalf last night, because I accepted a ride at my dropoff spot while enroute with riders. In both cases the rider changed the destination, in one case taking me 12 miles in the wrong direction to the middle of nowhere. I was SO pissed at that one. I don't do long rides, 2 or 3 miles tops. In both cases Uber cancelled my pickup since I was no longer going to the pick up spot, and it went on my cancellation rate not that I care about that.
Yes, I've had a few riders that the only information I got was one initial like T. I'm sure that rider was vetted really well, huh? Not that I'm worried, I'm a well built guy who drives on my days off from my regular job as a police officer. People have no idea, it does piss me off when they ask where to buy drugs and things like that.

I also will cancel when a rider opens my door and immediately asks who are you picking up. I usually respond with not you and cancel on them in front of them. Uber has put safety measures in place for a reason. Rider is suppose to check the lisence plate and then tell the driver their name when they get into the car. If a rider cant follow easy safety procedures then i figure they are too stupid or drunk for me to waste my time with.

Also, I'm not very stingy on rating passengers. Why? Because most of the time, if you rate a rider lower than 5 stars, they're going to rate you whatever you rate them, sometimes lower. Riders take so fewer trips than we do as drivers that they can easily tell who rate them low. For example, your pax gets dropped off at work at 9:00am. Well, most likely they're not taking another Uber until they go home that evening, so they'll know who the rating came from. Where as we as drivers have a harder time figuring that out, because after you drop that passenger off at 9:00, you're off to your next trip, and probably several more after that.
Look, I've been an Uber driver for 8 years. I have a 4.98 driver rating and I've completed 15K+ trips, And remember, the universe is going to give you back what you put into the universe. So, of your getting annoying riders with stupid names, wait until the final seconds to be ready, are Chatty Kathy's, or are completely obnoxious, check yourself! Because you're probably that way too!!

I'm just going to say that looking at a passenger's rating means NOTHING! The passenger rating, unlike the driver rating, NEVER resets. Ratings don't fall off every 500 trips like they do for drivers. So their passenger rating is an average of all their trips since they began using Uber back in 2010 or whenever they began using Uber, but many passenger's have been using Uber for a long time.
The fake names, like T or G or Lizo or Crap, I've never really put too much thought into this. I know there are a lot of immature people out there who think this is cool but it's really not. I guess I'll have to put more thought into this on future trips.
