@@CalmTempest Doesn't matter. There's so much frickery that quotes searches rarely return relevant results anymore. They even disabled the ability to search by exact image size years ago, so I use Yandex for finding wallpaper. It's also a good option to search for stuff controversial political topics, which get filtered and censored beyond belief.

@@ghqst777 yes, I agree. This is the problem with tech that is reliant on the whims of a company and its servers. Sonos had equal amounts of criticism when they stopped support for a generation of their high end speaker systems, bricking them.
Google hasn’t made a good product in years, it’s just that the general public hasn’t tried alternatives.

The Spotify thing is terrible news they picked the worst way to do it and need to face something legal. At least partial refunds or ways to root or jailbreak etc

Currently doing some research and development with a small group to build some "companion hardware" utilizing a Raspberry Pi. I have a car thing in each of my cars and my garage and I, for one, am livid at Spotify's dismissal of the customers that waited YEARS to even receive their devices. I agree that some legal action should be taken, but sadly that's not my department. 😅
The Car Thing hardware on its own most likely won't be powerful enough for open-source software. Which is why the need for another device exists. Unless Spotify did the right thing and shared their source code...

I tried using Gemini instead of the Google assistant on my phone, the first thing I tried was "good morning" to which it replied " actually, it's already afternoon in your location". It was 8 in the morning 😮💨
I immediately switched back to the assistant and never looked back. AI is not ready for prime time yet.

My feedback to Google when they were experimenting on putting this out was that AI searches can't be trusted due to the possibility of hallucinations. But I didn't imagine it being this bad. They clearly have not worked on filtering out bad information.
if you google anything WITHOUT using the AI, you know instantly why the AI hallucinates. between copy paste articles, gpt generated ones, clickbait and reliable source only found in forums in a comment buried under trolls, the AI had plethora reasons to mess up.

Companies have always been tax collectors. They always pass on the cost of buisness to the customer.
Sadly there is no real incentive not to, unless if increasing the cost makes it so other players in the market have an advantage.
Companies do many horrible things but charging the customer more because it costs them more is not one of them. If the cost per unit goes up price per unit has to also go up
As opposed to absorbing the cost of business? The whole point of business is to make a margin, so yeah, that's what would be logical.
The real argument here is that a synthetic cost is being added to the cost of a product without adding any value to it, all because it's levied by a government in an effort to discourage trade with a particular nation (and who will likely poorly re-deploy those funds). That's what people should actually care about dedicating any energy into debating the merit of.
Thing is that they almost invariably increase prices more than the tax cost them because they have the tax to blame for the entire thing. Same way companie were and are blaming inflation while jacking up prices 50+% more than would be explained by inflation.

Google AI search has been a thing on my phone for a while now but all the sudden it's just gone now ever since I heard this news about faulty searches.
I thought the orca thing would turn out to be just some thing orca's decided to do to be cool. They're... interesting animals. Back in the 80's there was a fad among Orca's where they'd wear a dead salmon on their head as a hat.
An individual-which, in my headcanon, was a "dad trying to be cool"-was observed trying to "bring that back" in recent decades and was met with "ew. no."

I'm tired of Google trying to only show me select sites. CZcams showing me select popular content making it way harder than it needs to be to find new content. If I could rollback my "search results" surely 2015-2017 search was better then I stead if me using two different browsers to find two different types of images. Instead of generally whatever the hell pops up.... Like the same 10-15 websites... Simply not enough for me.
I've begun just blacklisting some of the worse websites that optimized their search ranking to death.

I'd say Vinnie Jones is a lot more similar to Jason Statham than Christian Bale. Both play similar characters, have similar voices and have acted opposite each other.

Crazy how Linus is on set to direct every video, even the ones he's not in. Especially the ones he's not in!
This also shows the problem of people just asking bad questions creating bad contexts: "what is the best recipe" will just get the "best" recipe for how the food LOOKS such as for a commercial.
Google's AI search is only a value added version of the search algorithm it's been running for I guess a few decades now. From the list of results it takes one near the top and parses it giving an "AI result." In other words very nearly the same text you'd see if you started looking through the results. There's no true AI that understands the search query in human terms, evaluates sources, analyzes reams of data, and draws a conclusion like a Star Trek computer, it's just smoke and mirrors. At this point Google is only good for Gmail, Docs, and voice for a free phone. Search is becoming hopelessly broken.
