Unfortunate that tech companies are evolving backwards with their naming convention. Intel, AMD, Nvidia, USB, DisplayPort, HDMI, why?
So that they can charge consumers more for a worse product.
@@crazystupidgamer as someone who works in a brick and mortar store that sells electronics: yes. And also note that most salesmen aren't even that interested in cpu:s, let alone the consumer.
That rollable $100,000 TV and they're still going to collect your data.
After Asus pulling more warranty bs on the Ally, I decided to buy a steam deck OLED. I'm completely done supporting Asus, I won't ever buy new hardware from them. It's obscene and disgusting how anti consumer they are while charging a premium for their products.
Always were like that. ASUS was never highly-rated for a reason, long before 13th/14th gen or Ally.
Good choice.
LGs rollable OLED failed for poor marketing (and price). They should have called it the ROLL-ED!
I guess LG got rolled 😎
With goat Ryzen APUs making good progress lately.....I'm still waiting for goat Intel Iris Xe to get a proper desktop APU
You can't just call anything and everything "goat", lmao
That's not gonna happen, intel just pours more watts and calls it a day. 😂
Or straight up jumping to Arc integrated, as Intel next gen chip is scalable because of the chiplet design. I'm hoping that they put the full size Arc integrated GPUs in the desktop or at least they release separate chip variant for iGPU gamers just like Ryzen G series chips
@@X862go Intel integrated graphics have made huge leaps. Including in energy efficiency, especially when compared to older nvidia mobile GPU's
I used to play Age of empires 3 on a laptop with an MX 130 nvidia gpu.
Recently that old laptop finally gave up the ghost, so I got an laptop with an Intel 1360p cpu that has integrated intel iris 96 graphics.
It has better performance than the MX130, while offering far better battery performance.
Sure the MX130 is an 7 year old mobile GPU. But its still impressive that integrated intel graphics can out perform it while sipping less power
@@Axisoflords
Goated reply 😂
4:10 oh good another thing ASUS can reject you for warranty repairs.
I had a TUF 3080 that I took out of a prebuilt that I had to RMA in 2023 and I only paid for the shipping to them. So I think it's hit and miss.
Gamer Nexus case is really extreme and ASUS needs to do some investigating.
@@protecteratroooo, you gave ASUS their new tag-line: ASUS Hit or Miss.
You could say they are A SUS company. ඞ
@@blisphul8084 😂 imagine, they used to be the go-to company for great products.
😞
Lol, who needs to change their naming scheme to scam the consumers? Papa Nvidia can do it without changing their naming scheme fully
You should be awarded a GTX 1050 2 gigs for this comment
Oops! there goes more collective intelligence ignorantly flushed down the toilet of bliss.
So does that mean you knowingly got scammed and bought scam option 1? or
Knowingly got scammed and bought scam option 2 by scamming yourself into justifying a slightly less expensive scam? Or
Maybe you got double scammed by the similar numbering scheme option 2 scam uses to compare their scam against scam 1?
Either way,
Do you know about AMD’s start in the industry and why they didn’t produce their own chip until the mid 90’s?
It’s no industry secret but many fanboys you reckon think AMD started when they bought out ATI???
Following on from your comment to be fair and informed AMD was started by a group of employees that left the same company Intels founders left not long before. Unlike Intel, the brainchild behind AMD was the previous company’s “marketing executive”.
They patented a few designs but lacked the knowledge and innovation that had seen intel quadruple in a couple of years and ultimately shape the future of things to come.
For the next 30 odd years AMD would go on to steal intel IP, make intel processors under contract then unashamedly sell copy’s with their name on them on them THIS BIT! so much so that Intel changed their naming scheme to distance themselves from AMD’s copy’s but not before deciding to not renew a previous licensing agreement that saw AMD making Intels processors as a back up supplier for a massive contract intel landed with IBM. It took AMD years and many court battles to be able to legally use Intels x86 process for their own designs. Without that AMD would have ended there in 94 and it took over two yrs until 1996 that AMD finally released their very own in-house processor albeit a combination of Intel and previously acquired RISC processes and headed by none other than, you guessed it, recently reigned lead engineer frommmmm intelllllllllll🥳yay hooray for intel it’s thanksgiving intel day for everyone.
Can these companies get class action lawsuits for intentional misinformation regarding SKU naming? It’s like false marketing to a degree
It’s not false advertising. They haven’t done anything illegal although the average consumer will definitely be mislead, they aren’t lying unfortunately.
Thank you for getting angry about these ridiculous APU/CPU/GPU naming schemes. Salty-about-dumb-names Brett is the best Brett. I'm here for it.
Its going to be like Core Ultra, new triple digit numbers. If they stop changing it, we will probably be used to it by 2025, I hope.
Tech is pain.
😂 it’s amazing when you upgrade AM4 to AM5 and get all the nuts and bolts required for that change-
Just to see the CPU you invested in, this week, is beaten by a freakin APU.
AMD was like well "No apu's were harmed in taking this naming decision" let's do this.
These name shenanigans 100% work. I've sold many Ryzen 7320u laptops, which are basically 5300u chips, whilst customers won't even look at 5000-series chips. I mean, I understand why. AMD wants to sell more units. This devalues better chips like the 5500u that will get sold off at big discounts, whilst brands like Asus and Lenovo etc are forced to drop old stock and buy new models. Its good for the corporate consumer machine, probably not so good for e-waste etc.
DUDE I live in Texas and a wicked storm rolled through out of nowhere yesterday. No major damage.
Yea, that thunderstorm came into houston. Down town and spring area got hit hard af.
AMDs mobile CPU names are just silly. The third number being the most important. I was in Currys (a UK electronics store) the other day looking at laptops. Even knowing the third number is the most important, I was still having to check the model numbers online to make sure I knew what I was looking at. Given they sell laptops with Zen 2, Zen 3 and Zen 4, it's easy to get confused.
Great breakdown on the accessibility-ness and how it affects the cost of items! Thank you kindly.
Name dilution is definitely for confusing the customer with the subpar choices between devices, especially when it comes down to only a few choices "on sale" for actual buyers who have a limited scope of devices they can buy either in-store/know of and limited price range.
To comment on the comment section of today, specifically the issue of high cost accessibility equipment/products, it also comes to mind that a factor in it's cost also come from it's development. Don't know if this applies much to big companies like Microsoft, but usually, a company has to invest a decent chunk of change into a product, such as creating multiple teams and dedicating hours of work time, as well as material costs for any amount of iterations they may be toying with, before they even get to any amount of production. Small to mid sized companies might not be able to afford to invest so many resources into a product without having to jack up the price tag in order to get a guaranteed return on that investment.
So will the 9000 series be named something completely different?
Tree removal service is expensive AF, I almost died (not really but I have a dope scar now) because my family decided we could remove and process a cotton wood tree on our own
We need a new naming scheme for APUs that can also run games really well, so uninformed people have an easier time figuring out if they can game on their device or not.
Hey Brett I know you touched on this a week or so ago but if you flip the Hot News sign over your left shoulder. It would properly display your logo.
The rollable TVs would work great in RVs, caravans, boats and yachts...
Intentionally confusing naming schemes are why I appreciate news/review content creators breaking down what’s what. BUT it makes me wonder if we’re going to see less and less product pages that actually write out what’s in the product.
I bet Reece could shave like 90 grand of that LG TV if it went into production.
You aren’t lying about how much accessibility equipment costs as we are also in that boat with my son with a rare genetic disease as well. We are still waiting (3 months now) for his medical stroller, bed, and few other pieces of equipment to get through insurance. So there’s the cost AND the wait that comes along with that as well.
wrt the cost of developing accessibility products, the state is the ideal promoter of such things. Having grants to develop and research these kind of devices, and release them in a royalty free manner for anyone to produce would help humanity immensely.
Hey, while you're at computex, I think it's your turn to do a collab with Wendell. Steve (GN) and Linus have both gotten some air time with him in the last couple of years. So now it's Brett time!
doenst zedd has one rollable tv?
Father in law and i spent an entire weekend trimming trees. Just for a tornado to come through two weeks later and do everyone else in town for free. I don't think we lost a leaf.
@ AMD naming conventions: The number one reason I don't upgrade more often is because I just can't be bothered to decipher the differences between products. This will just make me put it off longer.
"Reece, save us " full stop :-D
I'm not a fan of AMD's constant naming convention changes, but another potential reason could be that the Strix Point processor isn't inherently power limited until the product implementation. An ultra-thin laptop's inability to cool the chip at higher TDPs isn't reflective of the performance of the silicon itself.
They should just make the TV rollable by being mounted by sealing like a projector screen.
An x86 to ARM teanslation layer would be more akin to Apple's Rosetta back in their x86 days, not Proton. That translates instruction sets, not API layers. API layers are easier to make performant because the app is still running natively. Also Wine has been around for much longer than Rosetta had been so Rosetta never got good
When you see the amount of unoptimized console ports that we are getting when both are on x86 I do not foresee improvements when adding arm to the mix
An entire generation of GPU? More like several generations of GPU like how 4090 laptop is essentially 3080 or 4070s desktop
Get em Brett, love your righteous indignation on the AMD naming and the causes of the disabled!!
Multiple fist bumps from this 63 year old who's building my 20th, maybe 30 something, rig and I'm looking for a cause to take my last two because I'm an old cripple who advocates for others who are disabled in all of my "spare time". 😂
tree cutting service VS making new roof/house service I mean.. its a no brainer at these rates :D
what mouse is that? it's cute and I want it now
just realized "For those who Dare" is a Warning.
Hey why you pick that gpu @5:40 “ it looked nice” 😂
Frostpunk is so good.
Ryzen Strix Point XXX should be a better naming scheme and could just sell a lot if they implement it. Sounds better that way
tbh, for a $100k cash in hand, I'll spend 1tenth of it buying a used car (BMW the good ones), and the rest? I only have to worry where to go on vacation. the lg rollable tv is cool concept, but too novel for any practical use
i doubt this is actually what these mobile chips are gonna be changed to be "AI 9" or whatever. there's still mention of 8050 Chips. but that seemingly went under the rug and out the window with the sensationalist "AMD BAD!!!1!!1" articles
Both will most likely exist at the same time, just so you can't know which one is better. Also, remember Ryzen 8000 is supposedly shipping with NPU, but the exception is basically lower Ryzen 5 and below, which don't get any AI cores.
Oh AMD...
The only time a naming scheme is useful is when you actually use that naming scheme.
Reese plays guitar! I bet the guy shreds
Wait the ROG next has 8 hours WTF?
The fact your stroller for your son can support 200 pounds is impressive
Both AMD and Intel now piss me off with their CPU naming.
I wasn't really mad at the 7000 naming scheme. For most people like my parents, any laptop that is not a celeron is fine for them, and any 70000 series laptop was fast enough. This new everything is a hx is indefensible
i needed network coverage when iam in space so thats great news
Why would the ally possibly need 24 gig of ram?
It's running windows 11 plus some of the ram has to be used by the igpu it could also help for non game applications when being used as a desktop computer
the arm64 hardware in regular pc area will be like past itanium in the server world itanium was slow due to the x86 translation layer for software ah software should not be hardware dependent it should be universal but no company is willing to change the thinking / programming script's
Instead of adding AI they simply should've changed Ryzen to RAIZEN 😜
Oh good lord hope your homeowners insurance will pickup the tree removal costs..... I don't envy that puzzle.
What is AMD's marketing department smoking....
I love the fact AMD is focusing on APU's! it will be best days of pc gaming when you can get 6800XT Performance within all one package. just need to get a good AIO and enough ram for both system and Vram an set! many of the "pc master race bro's" will call it stupid tho i just need 90's fps at 1080P at max settings without RT an i'm set. I play games for fun, not barging rights many in pc community is obsessed with. The APU also means less parts to fail an with AIO then you can extend the life span easier with lower temps.
Hi. Huge fan and I am also a critical care clinician and patient advocate; especially pertaining to insurance regulation. Is there something I can do to help you and your family?
Amd needs new management
NICE THAT amd APUS
Whether its LG's rollable TV or Apple's Vision Pro we are seeing so many cool products which could have been popular getting bad sells not because these products are bad but their manufacturers want to over charge us rather than letting people to get their hands on these.
Nvidia is also going the same way and may see some dip in sells if it continues the price gauging.
Wdym overcharge? Apple vision essentially has hardware of 2 regular VR goggles just because of vision gimmick, and rollable TV is also quite a marvel of engineering. They are not meant to be affordable AT ALL, its a premium products for people that want cool stuff regardless of how expensive it would be. They were never meant to be popular same way 4090 was never meant to be popular, a niche product for few people that can afford it.
I agree that the naming conventions for processors are absolute garbage however I don't get the gripe about having to Deep dive into the specs of a computer that you're thinking about buying you should be doing that anyway
You should do a colab with jerry rig everything and ask him to help you with his (not a) wheelchair company.
Sorry LG nobody was interested because it was a STUPID IDEA
Being disabled is expensive. And it sucks as I barely get enough money to cover my needs as I'm unable to work :/
i'm kinda not interested in ai focused chips. as of now the only os that uses the feature is windows 11. and the only os i don't use is windows.
AMD why?
Every component manufacturer needs to run away from arcane naming schemes. Clarity is to be preferred over chaos (unless it's Kyler - I like him). I'm still dreaming of my Ryzen 9965-HX but only because I actually want it, not because it could have been a U in a former life.
Brett, is there a way that you could team up with other creators and actively lobby these corporations to be more intelligent with naming? Can we get Steve to do it with an expose? Please someone bring us the infothings we need!
And by the way why not leave the development brand "strixpoint" on the thing? We've all gotten used to that name - and it's a boneheaded move to switch it up - especially when the overall press leading up to it's release has been so positive.
Somebody in marketing needs a correction.
I don't know why, but AMD has removed all the old mobile cpu from their website. Like try searching for 5600h
if the ROG Ally X would not be released by ASUS it could be interesting - but it is, so "no thank you"
marketing: we love uninformed consumers
"AI 9" read it like "i9"
Whoa, AMD just got a great success from Ryzen 7800X3D, and one year later, they started to act scummy like Intel?
It's normal for the "market leader" to act scummy, but I imagine they would do that after 5 or more years of leading the market, not just over one year
Time surely flies
Normalize a walk-out from the Computex conference when AMD brings this dirty s**t up?
Ayo ?? 05:32 ? bro?
Why u saying ayo
What a damn sad state of reality of the cost of having or being a person of disability. For shame...
For 100K you don't want to hide it. 😂
How is it that hard for these companies to make decent names for their products 😂
How much does tree removal cost?
Why did amd feel like they have to ape Intel's name changes? Ffs they can't even be a leader in names.
Clarification: I adore amd. I have and had and will have amd desktops (if they keep making good products) but they could be doing better. Especially on these things that don't really costs as many resources.
If I were looking for a handheld, ASUS would be last on my list. They messed up pretty bad when they tried to scam GN. I'll probably never buy any of their products now.
Yup. That ranks right up there with melting power connectors.
@@dobermanownerforlife3902 Yeah I don't know why Nvidia felt the need to "fix" the perfectly fine 8-pin pcie connectors. I'd rather have four 8-pins sticking out of my card than one that might burn my house down.
If they partner with valve could benefit valve and the Linux gaming community vastly especially cos Nvidia and Linux has never been an ideal experience. Plus a big player like Nvidia onboard with steam os would definitely make more Devs take notice of steam os and also make more proper full on gaming rigs compatible with steam os making it hopefully a viable windows replacement in the long term 🤞
Cos I really don't want to move to windows 11 but Microsoft is making it harder to just stay on windows 10. With extra hardware requirements game features like direct storage in dx. I know there is workarounds but they not without there flaws. N I'm sitting in the situation where if I wanted to go to Windows 11 I could definitely meet all hardware requirements but still don't want to cons definitely still out way any pros
Dunno why anyone would buy a Asus handheld after their whole 3k$$$+ repair snafu thing.
AMD has ALWAYS been shady
nobody should be buying ASUS garbage until their return warranties get fixed.
get XREAL glasses rather than a tv
These naming conventions are starting to sound like amazon listings lol. 2037 is gonna launch a core ultra AI super w-3765hxes xtx ti ssc lol
Who tf still wants to buy shit from Asus lol, also ehh idc to much about naming schemes at this point.
Homes are not that big
Ryzen Fairy Cow Dog 19
Thabks for allof it!
...What?
AMD wants to 1 up Intel on everything it seems.
I swear AMD Marketing & Naming Scheme is just he worst
😄
My opinion is that the GPU market for the consumer is on its way out. NVIDIA will keep prices high short term knowing eventually the entire lineup will be discontinued. With Windows, Apple, and Linux based distros moving to ARM there won’t be a need for high end GPUs in their current iteration for gaming. Microsoft will be releasing their x86 compatibility layer along with the Snapdragon ARM CPU. Supposedly it’s better than Apple’s Rosetta implementation. It’s possibly because Apple’s quality on the software side has really diminished the last couple years.
Nah.
High performance desktop APUs should down the track...imagine 50CU+ APU for a Desktop, Eventually mid-low end dGPUs will fade away.
They wont do that, 16 cu is most we will get. The 40 cu one is big af. It maybe possible but it will be shouldered to the mobo.
