I'm just glad that Groves did not end up falling on his own leg, and it was heroic of Tony to run the risk of not seeing his family to make this intervention.

Froch did come across as negative and definitely over dramatic by saying that AJ May never box again if he lost. His career would not have been over as thereâs still plenty of big fights for him and you donât go from fighting at Wembley Stadium to the York Hall in one defeat. Froch should know that as in case you werenât aware..he boxed at Wembley Stadium...
Sometimes a fighter comes across another who simply has the style they canât overcome or struggle with. That wouldnât mean that AJ couldnât then beat Fury or Wilder etc or have a big money stadium fight with Whyte. These guys would still want to fight him if he had lost (more so) as he brings the money with him, although it would be less, it would still be more than theyâd have ever earned. Ruizâs hand speed and pressure will always cause AJ problems but last night AJ showed he could learn from defeat and make adjustments. Some fighters can do that in a fight such as Calzaghe, Mayweather and Usyk, the majority canât adjust at all and a few can adjust in the next camp as AJ did.
Lots of fashionable phrases used by so called boxing fans, namely âretireâ, ârobberyâ and âduckingâ but this shows their lack of knowledge about boxing. It doesnât help when youâve someone like Froch making over dramatic soundbites without evidencing why he said it.
No, I absolutely agree with what Froch said - and that's basically because I think AJ is over-rated and Wilder and Fury both beat him, just like Ruiz Jr did. If our chubby Mexican had been anywhere near prepared, he could have damaged AJ again. When will people not realise that AJ is one big cliche in interviews and one-dimensional as a fighter. He boxed Ruiz the same way Parker did - and claimed before the fight he wasn't going to do that. If Ruiz put him down again, the Joshua myth would be smashed wide open. It really would, and it's unlikely he would have continued. And if he did, then he would have lost one of his next two fights and it would have been over anyway. I agree with you about the styles making fights, and fighters facing bogey opponents, but he didn't make adjustments. He just fought the same way he did against Parker (and that was with a total home-town ref). Last night he was hitting and holding constantly in the later rounds and will never fully unify the titles. Sky are all aboard the AJ train with that bullshitter Hearn, but believe you me, it should be derailed next year. And don't forget that Whyte shook him to his bones, Klitschko put him down and Ruiz left him bandy. It's time to wake up.

AJ still had a career if he lost on Saturday and still has one if he loses next year. It just means his earning power diminishes. My point was that Froch called it wrong and was over dramatic and its something heâs doing more and more.
Sky are and should be on the AJ hype train. He is their boxing poster boy and earns them millions in PPV and viewing ratings just as they also hype Liverpool, City, United etc.
Wilder is arguably as beatable as AJ as heâs been rocked numerous times and looks as uncomfortable at getting hit as AJ does. Plus, weâve seen Wilder get outboxed by Fury and Ortiz as his fundamental boxing skills are average at best. AJ hasnât been outclassed and outboxed yet (until he fights Fury!). Iâd still put Wilder favourite to beat AJ but that fight is a âwhoever lands firstâ fight.
I get that you donât rate AJ, but heâs beaten a lot of good fighters and is still only 22 fights in and 7 of them world title fights. Wilder won the WBC title in his 33rd fight with Malik Scott the only fighter of note he beat along the way. And have you seen Malik Scott âfightâ!?
