    All the other vid's I was coming across were saying to yank the whole steering wheel and other components out in order to swap this switch. I wasn't making sense to me really as to why you'd have to remove all that stuff, it just seemed there should have been an easier way and low and behold you've got the answer here..

      @tmart9084 Před rokem

      So here's my update.. First off again thanks for the help it was most awesome.
      Okay so I'm mechanically inclined been working on cars all my life so I knew once I learned how to remove the switch, it wouldn't be a difficult process for me and it wasn't. Anyone watching your vid can do this repair but here's the thing with me. I remove the switch and order a new one and it arrives and in it goes but NO START. I plug the old one back in to the electrical plug hanging out, stick a flathead in, turn it and the truck starts so it wasn't my switch after all. I removed the tumbler and had an allen key that fit inside that d-slot and I turned it but the truck still wouldn't start so It looks like ( at least in my case ) that I'm going to have to replace the whole assembly. For now though your great help allows me to at least drive my truck , although starting it I still have to use the screw driver with the switch that's hanging down.
      Cheers again from Vancouver Island Canada
      Tim
      P.S. If anyone is doing what I'm doing, just remember you still have to turn the key into the one position when you start the truck.

    • @tmart9084
      @tmart9084 Před rokem

      @@GarageBoys I just re-watched your video and something caught my eye that I didn't do and maybe it's "WHY" my truck still isn't starting with the key. You had said here that when you clip the switch back in to have the key in the ignition so that little tit that sticks out aligns properly. I didn't do that so once the rain stops I'm going to give that a shot and hopefully it works and if so I'll post again. It's too bad I can't show a picture on here cause the little tit that sticks out on my truck isn't big and green/yellow in color like yours is, mine is just a much skinnier smaller tit that sticks out Hmmmm wonder if that's got something to do with it

    I followed these steps and installed a new ignition switch. Made sure it was properly clipped in place and also that the key was in the ignition when I installed it like you said. It for sure has helped because now I can start my car every time first time whereas before it took me many attempts. However, I still have to push the key in towards the ignition a bit before it starts. Is there anything secondary that could be causing this?

    Thank you for this video, about to try and replace mine, this is very helpful! I have a 2005 Ford Escape, was running fine then now starts randomly stalling and sometimes can't even start it (no clicking or anything) and I can't even get a reader to work after that. I've been able to get it going again by disconnecting the battery for a few then reconnecting and then it will run for a few minutes and die again. Sounds perfectly normal when it is running and not seeing any error codes on my reader. Stupid question, but can an ignition switch cause this type of problem?

      There's another part in the column called the Ignition switch column lock housing part 9L8Z-3511-A that can be the culprit. Not expensive on ebay, like $30 - 34.00. There's a video by FordTechMakuloco called "2008-2012 Ford Escape No crank no start: ignition lock module replacement. It's 23:41 minutes long. If you check the comments on that video, there is supposedly a way to change that part without removing the steering wheel and air bag. Appears you must remove the signal light arm and a few more wires to get access.

      Hi, I’m glad my videos helped you fix your issue. You don’t have to make extra keys or anything else, this is a very very common issue on this vehicles. To respond to you questions, yes you can press them separately and not at the same time. And 2nd, you can adjust your steering of any car with the lever located it under it.

    This didn’t work for me. However it was a good attempt, engine still doesn’t turn over and after I tried to turn the key once, the second time was very hard and the key almost doesn’t turn, I have to take it out again and try again. Any other recommended fixes to fix this symptom?

    I did the replacement, but it cranked it over one time difficulty, and now it won’t? Did I possibly not get the switch lined up correctly?

    Great video, I did everything step by step replacing the switch, but the car does not start. The dash lights came on, I can hear the gas pump working, but no crank, even when I pushed the key in a bit further. The part is from Rockauto, by Motorcraft. I will try the part you have used and see if it will make any difference. Any suggestions, did I missed anything?

      There's another part in the column called the Ignition switch column lock housing part 9L8Z-3511-A that can be the culprit. Not expensive on ebay, like $30 - 34.00. There's a video by FordTechMakuloco called "2008-2012 Ford Escape No crank no start: ignition lock module replacement. It's 23:41 minutes long. If you check the comments on that video, there is supposedly a way to change that part without removing the steering wheel and air bag. Appears you must remove the signal light arm and a few more wires to get access.

      Thank you @@kenito1967 I have replaced the lock housing and it worked. There is a video here a young men replacing it without removing the airbag. I can add the video if needed.

      @@2010VIA .. sure, I'm curious to see it because I will be doing this job next week. I know how to remove the air bag and steering wheel, but I'd rather not if I don't have to.

    I saw another video where the vehicle had the same issue. They way they fixed it is by replacing the whole ignition lock module. This method seems twice as easy. Are there any drawbacks of just replacing the switch (as done here) vs replacing the whole module?

    • @GarageBoys
      @GarageBoys  Před rokem +1

      no drawbacks, worse case scenario you replace it again in 1 year

    What if i still need to push in on the key after changing? What would be the issue?

      Thanks for asking that question because it appears there's 2 parts that can cause it not to start. The part that was replaced in this video. I think it's called the ignition switch OR what's called the entire ignition switch column lock housing. Part 9L8Z-3511-A. ... cost about $30 -34 on ebay.
      There's a 23:41 minute video by FordTechMakuloco that's called 2008-2012 Ford Escape No crank no start:ignition lock module replacement. Like you said, if you replace the switch and you still have to push the key in, then it was the ignition lock module that had to be replaced. And if you read the comments on that video, there is a way to take it off WITHOUT removing the steering wheel. I think you remove the signal light arm to get better access and remove a few more wires to get access to all the screws that hold it on.

    Hi, can changing this switch cause the front and back wipers to not work? I changed the part following your video- thank you. Since I just purchased this car, I had not turn the front and back wipers- presently they are not working. I checked all the fuses and even changed the steering column switch with the turn signal unit with no luck.
    Any tips in what to check will be appreciated.

      This part won’t affect the wipers, it’s hard to diagnose over the internet but sounds like a wire issue… check wires from wipers to relay

      Sounds like you took off the wire harness to the wiper arm and didn't fully plug it back in.
