The amount of anxiety I get when they're close to the edge is insane
Yeah in reality it’s very flat and not scary at all.. 😂
@Grishnakh Actually it's he exact opposite. Cameras cannot capture steepness, fish eye or not
i agree SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH
@Grishnakh whatever is right mate, Sam is spot on
@@SamSoMite421 when you are on a flat surface, looking down at the slope, it makes it look steeper. Idk about you guys but that's how it always is for me
That backwards and forwards skiing when negotiating the terrain at the 16:40 mark is just beautiful.
i call it the falling leaf!
@@JacobWesterSki yeah, that's what I've heard it as and usually on a board it's done with noobs but it looks like a good technique with skis.
I've never seen that technique before. That's actually beautiful.
I skied that. And it was the most incredible experience I ever had.
Just be aware of the real dangers.
You could smell rotting flesh on occasion from what the glacier claimed.
7:02 one tiny mistake and its adios amigos
Yea shit, i mean i love skiing but that just looks too damn scary
and we all know, they will do sometimes a tiny mistake, damned shit crazy guys :-)
These sorts of skiiers get killed all the time - and this isn't even the highest level of current freeriding insanity. This is : czcams.com/video/0ME_hvlaf7I/video.html
Makes this look like an intermediate run eh?
This is what I thougt, too. Damn scary! But hey, half a million views within 3 weeks... it payed off :-)
They got helmets 👍🏼
I love how Tof just shows up out of nowhere, on his own, says hi then just takes off again. Absolute legend.
Classic Tof move ;)
nNo, but on the real though, skiing these lines solo is not to recommend, and even though both Tof and I occasionally do it, on this day he was with a crew right behind him. Still a legend though!
@@JacobWesterSki Well, skiing solo is really never recommended though. And both you and Tof are obviously very aware of the risks you are exposed to and know the area and conditions very well. Riding solo without knowledge is a completely different thing.
I would literally die if I tried any of this
I have acrophobia and skied for years, loved it, but I could never do what some of these "Red Bull" types to today for money! I respected the edges and avalanche possibilities and never courted disaster!! I was somewhat of a thrill-seeker years ago, but I don't want to die until I think it's time, and on my own terms! No mountain is going to take me away! I used to hear them shooting off canons into the mountain at about daylight to loosen any possible avalanches, and I knew the dangers!
I'm scared skiing under the chair lift, let alone 1000' cliff...
OMG what a views. What a PRO skiers! This is what I call serious skiing. Ok let me go back to my red and black slopes....
Red and black isnt bad! Keep ripping!
Your slopes are made 4 me 2!! Thrill me more as much by my skills that make me myself come down in one piece!! Very nice 2 see this insane desent of those guys!! #LOVESKIING2
I also drive red and black slopes
freeride is nothing for me but I have a lot of respect for the people who does it
The actual Couloir footage... absolutely breathtaking!
But can we all take a minute to appreciate that sick combat skiing at the end? Very slick.
“What little ant person walked here” 6:00 hahahahahah
It's tough to really know without being there in person but a couple of those spots I'm not sure I'd trust anything but crampons.
Sharp steel edges and alpine ski boots strapped tight is the second best thing though 🙃
@@JacobWesterSki hahaha
@@JacobWesterSki that is some crazy exposure in those begining parts. Cool video as always
@@JacobWesterSki Yea. Every season someone who thinks they don't need crampons falls from that ridge and dies.
@@joebloggs8785 i agree. i don't know that area but judging from the video these guys are being cocky af and i don't think anyone would be surprised after watching this if one of them is dead soon. sorry. had to say it. slow down, don't be jump turning on ice on a spine with a 500 foot cliff like 3 feet away from you
f-king hilariously good skiing throughout , but love the pivot rock moves at the end
Best way to move through those rocks, way harder to actually make turns, haha!
@@JacobWesterSki Never thought of that, makes sense! Gotta try it some time (not that I'd ever be in any terrain shown in this video lol)
Awesome video! Thanks! I did something like this - another route down the Aiguille du Midi - back in my 20's (1980's). On the lift up they stopped the cablecar about 300 feet before the stop, opened the doors, and 2 skiers threw themselves out and down. The lift feels nearly vertical at the top before the station. It looks so crazy today. -Frank
I was literally watching the first 30 seconds thinking “damn, that looks like so much fun. Tooln’ around on rock skis!” Then record scratch
Finally some skiers I'm jealous of. This is my kind shooshing.
Now show us what your bases and edges look like! :D great skiing!
They werent bad at all actually! Henrik's looked a bit worse...
@@JacobWesterSki he was the boardman am i right?
Just found your vlogs and they‘re amazing! Crazy to see you so chill while hanging out on the edge while I am actually freaking out from only watching!
“Pretty far left”. “You communist”. 😂😂
I'm a ski racer but I too enjoy doing some off road. But not like this,on a semi-steep hill up at 2700m and I just glide and cruise on the snow and it's truly amazing
That was hella scary to watch. Crazy how chill you guys are when skiing in such rocky and steep (and deadly) areas. Hope you guys stay safe!
I love the passion you guys have in skiing, its great :)
Insane... my inner self shuts down watching this. Unreal to be happy and cool in these conditions.
I'd manage to be cool due to the temperature, my undies would be leaking piss though.
Awesome video 🙌. Perfectly sums up the Chamonix skiing experience in the first 30 seconds! And great riding from you all in nasty conditions....
That was legit those pov's on the entry into that thing game me goose bumps.
Shits so next level.. Jacob you killan the game
I'm a novice skier who went down my first Canadian green run two weeks ago, and I swear it looked EXACTLY LIKE THAT ONLY A BIT STEEPER.
those canadian greens are gnar!
I would shit bricks at the thought of doing anything like this...hats off to these guys, super talented with balls of steel. I'll be sticking to the pistes this year thank you very much!
Wow nice job. Some of those exposers had me freaking out and I’m sitting on my couch! You are so casual there. You guy have crazy skills especially at the end skiing frontwards and backwards through the rock field.
Hah, I thought I was something for finding my own powder on a small hill in a spot out of bounds where no one goes... You guys are my inspiration after watching this, haha!
My butt hasn't stopped puckering from the moment you left that lift!
Great ski descent, looks so awesome and fun that you forget the possible danger.
Awesome and fun until you fall off the edge 🙃
@@JacobWesterSki - wear a wingsuit, in case that happens.
This looked amazing! I would love to do something like this one day.
as someone who isnt comfortable on my skis on flat ground, seeing you skiing on the edge of a cliff is
terrifying
I skied all my life, watching this makes me terrified aswell
My grandfather was born and raised in Norway. His name was Marcus Adrian Ness.
He came from Norway when he was 16, on a moments notice by ship with his older brother back in the 1890's. He was in the Spanish-American War.
He settled in Duluth, Minnesota. A city with many Norwegians and worked for the railroads.
He married, built a nice home, had three daughters, the youngest, my mother. All of whom went to college and became teachers.
The oldest was Junior high school home economics teacher, the middle was an art education professor in the New York University system at Brooklyn College.
My mother graduated from Northwestern University with honors in choral conducting and piano. There's more to the story, I don't want you to fall asleep.
I LOVE lefse and Gjetost (yay- toast) cheese.
I ski, but not at that level.
Thanks for sharing!
God this makes me feel sick! My iPad just slipped out of my hands with the amount of sweat coming from my palms.
Sorry if i cracked your screen!
Just keep up the great work and quality videos! I will just wear gloves to soak the sweat up when I watch your videos from now on! 😂😂
Hahaha did it land on ur face?? Hate it when that happens.
@Troy Kluge
Same happens to me
That looks sooooooooooooo flippin sketch man! Sweet.
This makes me glad I only mountaineer and climb . Huge respect to you guys .
My heart was pounding at the beginning, I was nervous traversing within the ropes. Absolutely awesome run and the way you skied forwards and backwards around those rocks at the end was genius ! Going to try that move 🍻
Thanks for posting this. I got to snowboard this descent a few times in 94-95, in deep powder, all the way to the valley: hands down my best days riding ever. Thanks for the memories! (That entry looked brutal up top tho...ugh)
Woow, thats a memory to cherish! Yeah the entrance isnt the same anymore. And it doesnt seem to get any better. People are getting out their ropes for it these days.
The snow at Alta would fall 5 to 6 feet in a night. That's desert powder. When you scooped it up in your glove and blew on it it would just hang there in the air. There is a run their called East Greeley. to get into the top of it you have to free fall 60 feet down a vertical cliff face. But then your looking at a wide open face of 6 feet deep powder, when you make your turns you go under the surface of the snow and emerge again on the top of the turn. You never feel the hill. You are skiing on air all the way down 25 turns as I recall. They had a word for it 'spacial' also 'orgasmic'. Men would literally fall in love with the mountains.
Sounds like a dream, be grateful for those memories! Alta is awesome :)
Pleasantly surprised by watching a video not made by the big names like gopro and redbull, still excellent content, and not omitting the sucky parts, like going home on the side of the highway. Keep up the good work and stay safe!
Nice footage! Great watching both this and Nikolai’s perspective! Keep it up!!
CBonesey p
Absolutely an amazing video, with the editing, felt I was there with you well done guys and stay safe 👍👏👏👏👏
Thanks for the kind words!! ☺️
Just a day in the hood... MENTAL! Glad you're back Jacob!
@ 14:27 that perspective is beyond my Saturday in Northern Ontario looking out at my 40cm blizzard and dreaming of steeps! You guys have such a TIGHTLY unique group there...that's an experience not many will ever get to be in!
@ 17:27 I was thinking what this guy says about the ski's or particularly the edges...They have to be trashed! What's the story in the rock run anyways? Is there usually tons of powder in there for pillows and it's unusually lacking in snow?
I love @ 17:46 how you now can look back up and see EXACTLY where you just were! That's simply freakin' AMAZING! I WOULD take you up on the offer to trail you guys down if I were there!
Absolutely incredible!
I didn't know skiing could be so intense. Thanks guys.
The technique at the end of that video was breathtaking! The video as a whole unbelievably good. Nerves of steel!
Wow! JUST AMAZING!!
You Guys ROCK!!! 😃
This is insane. When u guys were on the rocky egde, almost got heart attack. U guys are super cool and great skiers. Thanks for the Video 😊
Thanks for your kind comment!
guys are nuts, skiing on the edge among the rocks, well done
Been wanting to return to the valley to ski midi. Have skied Cham-Mont B. and surrounding resorts, but this has long been on my list. Thanks for the interesting video
That's a lot of work and exposure for subpar snow. The views were amazing!
The actually skiing looked very nice. The last section through the rocks I would have take a hall pass. I am a east coast skier so what I consider ice is different from a west coaster. Very nice and thanks for sharing, well done.
Great skiing guys, enjoyed the video on that "Scared me $hitless Aguille run" with the sketchy entry. I have been down the Aguille many times but never on that run.
Loved the comment about the steps and the ant person. Too Funny! Been there quite a few times...
Just insane, but I could not stop watching
This makes me think about the time when I was young. Not a care in the world and the only exiting way down was off-piste. I remember the feelling standing on a icy almost 90 degree cliff thinkig this is not going to work out, but it always did. I remember walking miles in deep snow to get back to the piste after a wonderful freeride through a valley. Now weve got responsibilities, tend to take things easy. Thank you for this video.
Glad you got to enjoy your youth. When I was young, I was afraid of everything, so there's no way I would have done something like this. I lacked the skill level, anyway. But now that I'm older and wiser, and in much better shape, I have plans to do this - just not to this extreme degree.
@@AuroraBoarder1 Stay safe, take the challenge and have fun.
Living my life through you until I can get back in the mountains. Serious vibes.
This looks so sick :D
Having me on the edge of my seat watching a video.... i can't imagine how this would look and feel in reality.
Less comfortable than from the couch maybe. But also a lot more fun!
Wow that was awesome! If I could ski even half as good as you guys I’d be happy.
Wow just wow. There is off piste and than there is off piste like this. Truly you are skiing superheroes.
You are too kind sir!
jesus Christ, that mountain would have killed me 5 times before I hit the bottom
Y’all some crazy euros.
I get anxiety getting off the ski lift.....
Wow! Glad you guys are still alive!
A very nice line! But I don´t do such things anymore. When I got my first son I came to evaluate risks differently. The change was imminent as when I first held him in my hands. However now I love to watch other skiers doing their thing on places I have been around and elsewhere. Keep it up and stay safe!
I can definitely see as well as absolutely respect that perspective change. There’s a time for everything!
Wow Super impressive!!!You made the unskiable totally skiable. Best ski video I've seen in a long time!
Loving it!
Loved the drone shots of you guys coming down. Just incredible to watch because I am not that brave. Lol
I felt badass when I ran a green slope last week. This is insane.
Grymt Jacob! Så jäkla härligt att få lite fler filmer från dig! Fortsätt!! BIG up!!
Tack!!
Unbelievable! Thanks for sharing this.
The degree of casualness well these guys are skiing right next to cliffs and rocks is insane
I was there some years ago, and looking down the couloir from the walkway I can tell you the thought that it would be a great place to ski
did not enter my mind.
Haha yeah that view is pretty wild! I'll make sure to film next time we lower ourselves from it on a rope...
WOW!!! we have come along way from Warren Miller days!!! That totally got my stomach on several areas of that mountain. DANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys actually lived and didn't die on that mountain. GOOD JOB and thank you for sharing that thrilling adventure with us.
Gives a whole new meaning to, living on the edge! Holy crud you guys are crazy
Thats impressive!! Giving me chills down my spine haha. Ill head back over to my blues and blacks thank ya very much😂 hit a double black one time and well, it took a while for me to get down hahaha. Ski on guys!
One of the best ski video never see, very good 👍
Sitting at my desk, watching you guys on those spines, feeling my stomach in my throat and my legs turning to jello. Cool once you get to the couloir, but everything before that is a big cup of hell nope.
You guys are insane :) Awesome footage. My legs burning just from watching it. Sh***ng brick here in front of the telly !
I love the shoots, fun skiing
i was glued to the screeb for 19 min lol
Those extremely narrow, rocky access points you're going through are more dangerous than anything I'd ever try to "ski". Especially the one with all the cables you were crawling under. Certainly looks like the chutes in-between were a lot of fun though. In any event, mad respect to you guys for pulling this off!
Yeah haha those sections are pretty burly for sure. Probably smarter to get the rope out and rap through.
Really good, high quality video. Keep it up. Really cool mountain.
I’d be the one turning around and getting back on the tram😋
The pucker factor my friends and that’s just watching. Unbelievable what you guys are doing.
Absolutely insane and awesome!!!
How does this channel only have 9k subs? I just found it and im aleredy in love
This looks awesome! Would love to do this someday
Skiing it looks so much easier than getting to it. So gripped just watching them negotiate those rocky, razor-edge drop-ins.
Thats a correct assessment!!
Awesome footage. Great drone work.
20 seconds in and my palms were sweating already haha
holy shit thats insane dude! to think you bois are out here doing that and im barely able to do 180s off park jumps! thats crazy!
This is absolutely bananas. Honestly next level stuff great work
Glad you liked it!
The story telling is awesome!
Thank you!
wow!so professional!! beautiful view!
Absolutely amazing great job guys!
You guys are absolutely mad. Incredible video.
Nice production quality. That was fun to watch but the only time I wasn't nervous was the exit couloir.
Thank you, and sorry if we made you nervous!
Yeah, bit choppy, not too slick, no fizzy frkn edm music....that's all a v good thing....and INCREDIBLE scenery/skiing (and board!)
I’ve been on this tram it’s truly amazing
I skied this many time in 2002/03......and again in 2007 and 2009. The loss of snow and ice is remarkable. I remember that cable well..the entry was nothing like that....
It really is fascinating and scary watching it deteriorate like that. It needs a few years of snowy winters to build back up, but with the last couple of hot summers even the permafrost holding the rocks in place is melting... Lots of classic climbs no longer recommended due to rockfall.
I've skied it in 2007 a couple of times and the approach of the section 1 was all snow and quite pleasant. That rock garden is something else and scary!!
@@JacobWesterSki New Mexico Utah Colorado pretty much has a 30 to 40 inch base everywhere so they're in drought right now too I mean I remember Winters Allen Utah Housing 800 inch snowfall thousand in snowfall winter total that is about 20 years ago I remember skiing at snowbird on July 4th
Glad to see a ski video on youtube that actually has underground rock music as opposed to royalty free EDM or new age pablum.
Unbelievable shots Jacob. Chamonix is surreal.
Thank you Stephen, yes, it is a special place for sure🙏
